Re: [JAWS-Users] repairing JAWS 10

2009-03-12 Thread Maria Campbell

I received the same message when trying to update my JAWS10.
That seems strange to me.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] repairing JAWS 10

Hi
I recently tried to do an update using the JAWS update feature on my
JAWS 10 program and received the following message.

The following updates could not be installed:
  - JAWS 10.0.1139 Update

There may be a problem with your current installation, typically due to
deleted or renamed files. Run a repair of your original installation and try
to update again.

I am not sure where my original JAWS 10 disk is. How do I do a repair?
Thank you.

God bless,
Mark

Re: [JAWS-Users] How do I de-install jfw 9?

2009-03-12 Thread Dale Leavens
I just forget exactly where to go under XP, I think it is Start menu --
Programmes. In Vista the Windows key opens up the Default Menu and a couple
of selections down is Programmes.

In any case Find Jaws 9, arrow right to Explore Jaws, arrow down to to Tools
then right. the first option there is dongle viewer. You can arrow down
through that list to uninstall Jaws but as it is the last selection in my
installation at least, just arrow up one.

Not sure but I suspect that will do it.

NOTE: There is a selection for the Packmate Desktop among the tools as
well, this might be useful to you in configuring your Jaws 10.

One more right and you should find Explore Settings. There are some braille
options there which might assist your start-up issues as well, I haven't
fiddled with them.

I suppose I should install Jaws 10 and then the new update.

[JAWS-Users] windows live

2009-03-12 Thread Faisal

forgive me for asking a question which has already been answered, but
does the latest update of jaws support windows live messenger 2009?
I have tryed it myself, and it appears to have partial support, but when
I am in a conversation, I can't access the conversation threads as I
would useing alt+1 through 0.

how do you start JAWS? Perhaps you have both set to launch at startup,
and they are competing to see who starts first. Make sure that JAWS 9
is not set to launch at startup. Also, if you start JAWS with the same
hot key, either delete the hot key for JAWS 9, or choose a different
one. One way to make sure that JAWS 9 will not run is to uninstall it.
If JAWS 10 is working fine for you, and you have no complaints with it,
there's no reason to keep JAWS 9 on your system.

[JAWS-Users] Getting Jaws to not speak some things

2009-03-12 Thread Victoria Vaughan
Hi folks, First, When Jaws is reading dialog in a book and there is an ellipsis
or 3 periods, it is saposed to mean a pause by the speaker. I have tried
putting that in the Jaws dictionary replacing it with a comma or a space, but
neither works. Any ideas...?

Second, I have Jaws set to skip passed repeated text on a web page, but when I
follow a link and the next page of it comes up, it reads all of it again. I
know I could just use the list of headers, but I'm stubborn and I want this to
work.

Finally Third, I listen to a few radio streams over the internet and just one
of them triggers Jaws to say either "Frame Media Updated or Frame Banners
Updated and one other, that I can't recall right now. I can't find anything in
Frame Manager to silence that every few seconds interruption. Again, any
suggestions will be gratefully appreciated!
Thanks,

Vicky

Actually, you can have any combo you wish as long as it isn't
assigned to something else. and there's not any way you could have
two versions of jaws starting at startup, when you set one to run at
startup, the other one is removed.

how do you start JAWS? Perhaps you have both set to launch at startup,
and they are competing to see who starts first. Make sure that JAWS 9
is not set to launch at startup. Also, if you start JAWS with the same
hot key, either delete the hot key for JAWS 9, or choose a different
one. One way to make sure that JAWS 9 will not run is to uninstall it.
If JAWS 10 is working fine for you, and you have no complaints with it,
there's no reason to keep JAWS 9 on your system.

Hi guys. I've got jaws 10, but every so often it seems to go back to

doing that, and do I need to reinstall it again? it's a real pain,

jaws nine seems to come up when it's not wanted. kimmie.

I ran into that problem several weeks ago. Very frustrating! I think it
has resolved itself? I assume Google has been tinkering with the page and
occasionally fouling up the HTML form.

The only way I could get the search box to work was to type in some
nonsense into the box without feedback and press Enter. On the results
page, if it actually recognized any typing, the search box would work
properly! Sometimes, it did not recognized any typing, just refreshing the
page with this action seemed to fix the problem most of the time.

The only pages where I have run into this problem was on the Google search
page and the Google Alerts set up page.

On my work computer when I call up google and type into the search field
the characters I type don't echo back into the edit field without long
delay and frequently not at all. That installation is Jaws 7 I believe IE
6 and Windows XP Pro.

I have run all sorts of combinations of Jaws and IE on Win95, 98 XP Pro
and Home and now Vista but this is the only time I have experienced this
behaviour.

Any one know what might be happening>? It only seems to happen at Google.
Other input fields on other sites don't seem to do this.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I am not sure where my original JAWS 10 disk is. How do I do a repair?
 Thank you.

Re: [JAWS-Users] not in conversation window

2009-03-12 Thread Derek Roberts

Hi,

I could be totally wrong here. But I think this update has support for the
newer version of messenger, so when you try to read back in your
conversation, it messes up. TO get the latest messenger, go to get.live.com,
select the messenger link, then go to the download button (button, not link)
and run the installer you get from that.

HTH. PS: I haven't upgraded to the latest jaws 10 or messenger yet, so this
could be totally off. Also windows update is supposed to give you messenger
updates, but I've never gotten them as far as I know.

Try this path, but you might need to enable the viewing of hidden files

for Eric in the following path:

[JAWS-Users] Update to JAWS 10.0.1139 now released

2009-03-12 Thread Eric Damery
All,

Freedom Scientific has officially released the latest update for all
JAWS 10 customers. It is available for 32 and 64-Bit Windows and you
will find the full version of both products (for use as release versions
or Demo versions) on the JAWS download page now. If you have JAWS 10
versions installed already, please use the Check for Update feature in
the Help Menu now to update to this new version.

Below, I have listed changes and enhancements we have been working on
and added for this free update. During the next few days, we will also
be posting the releases of MAGic 11 update for both 32-bit and 64-bit as
well.

Regards,
Eric Damery
Vice President
Software Product Management
Freedom Scientific

New Features in the 10.0.1139 build:

JAWS 10 for 64-bit Windows Vista

It is becoming more and more common for new computers to come equipped
with 64-bit Windows Vista(tm) operating system. A 64-bit version of JAWS
is now available to run on these systems. Use the 64-bit download links
on this page to install the latest JAWS 10 64-bit release.

JAWS Tandem Auditing

JAWS Tandem now maintains a log of session activity using the Windows
Event Log service. These events are used to record the beginning and end
of a session, the suspension and continuation of a session, and errors
triggered before a session starts. The advantage of having such a log is
that consultants and trainers now have a record of JAWS Tandem activity
which is useful for tracking time for billing purposes. The event log
can be set up so that only administrators can delete events. Also, users
assigned any privilege level can write events to the event log. Again,
JAWS Tandem does not record user activity; only session errors and the
start, suspension, restart, and end of a session. To learn more, see the
JAWS Tandem Auditing topic in the JAWS help file or visit the JAWS
Tandem Quick Start Guide
 .

Multiple Sound Card Support

You can have multiple sound cards connected to your computer. The
addition of a second internal sound card, an external USB sound card, or
a USB headset are examples of multiple sound cards. Typically, Windows
makes the last sound card added to your system the default sound card.
This means that JAWS speech automatically goes to the new audio device,
which can be frustrating if you want to use that device for something
other than JAWS.

With this release of JAWS, you can now override the Windows default
selection, and choose which sound card to use for JAWS speech. If you
are editing music, you can let Windows direct your music through a
higher-end audio card while JAWS directs its speech output to an
inexpensive sound card in your computer.

To select which sound device to use for JAWS speech, open the Sound
Cards submenu, which is a new addition to the JAWS Utilities menu, and
choose a card from the list. If you later remove that card from your
computer, JAWS will automatically fall back to the Windows default sound
card. If you restore the sound card to the system, JAWS will again send
speech to that card instead of the Windows default sound card. For more
information about this new functionality, refer to the Sound Cards topic
in the JAWS help file.

IAccessible2 Support

IAccessible2 (IA2) is an open standard that lets an application or Web
page developer provide a detailed description of an object or control
for assistive technology products. A combo box on a Web page is an
example of the type of control that could contain a full description.
You can configure JAWS to speak this information or alert you with a
sound when it encounters such a control. If the latter occurs, you can
then press INSERT+TAB to have JAWS read the additional information.

To configure this functionality in JAWS, use the Advanced Options dialog
box in Configuration Manager, or press INSERT+V to open JAWS settings,
and select Off, Speak, or Alert with Sound for the IAccessible2
Descriptions option. Speak is the default setting.

Catalan RealSpeak Solo Direct Voice

Nuria, the Catalan RealSpeak Solo Direct voice, is now available for
JAWS. Go to RealSpeak Solo Direct Voices for Freedom Scientific Products
  to listen to a sample.

PlaceMarker Keystroke Update

The keystroke to set a Temporary PlaceMarker on a Web page has changed
from CTRL+K to CTRL+WINDOWS Key+K.

The CTRL+K keystroke now opens a duplicate tab in Internet Explorer 8.

Enhancements in JAWS 10.0.1139 (March 2009)

The following is a list of items addressed between the final JAWS
10.0.512 release and the final JAWS 10.0.1139 posting. All enhancements
since the initial public beta release are included in this release. For
a list enhancements and improvements in previous JAWS 10 releases, see

Life is what happens after you have already made other plans.

Hi David,

At 1 PM, we will be releasing the Update to JAWS 10 (32-Bit and 64-Bit). People
will be able to get it via the Check for Updates feature and if they have any
problems, they should just be directed to download the entire build and install
over top of their current JAWS 10.

Here are the links and I will pass you the list of changes shortly.

Re: [JAWS-Users] sluggish input behaviour question particularly atgoogle.

2009-03-12 Thread Donald Marang
I ran into that problem several weeks ago. Very frustrating! I think it
has resolved itself? I assume Google has been tinkering with the page and
occasionally fouling up the HTML form.

The only way I could get the search box to work was to type in some nonsense
into the box without feedback and press Enter. On the results page, if it
actually recognized any typing, the search box would work properly!
Sometimes, it did not recognized any typing, just refreshing the page with
this action seemed to fix the problem most of the time.

The only pages where I have run into this problem was on the Google search
page and the Google Alerts set up page.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] sluggish input behaviour question particularly
atgoogle.

Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] can I have some help with jaws please?

2009-03-12 Thread Baracco, Andrew W
how do you start JAWS? Perhaps you have both set to launch at startup,
and they are competing to see who starts first. Make sure that JAWS 9
is not set to launch at startup. Also, if you start JAWS with the same
hot key, either delete the hot key for JAWS 9, or choose a different
one. One way to make sure that JAWS 9 will not run is to uninstall it.
If JAWS 10 is working fine for you, and you have no complaints with it,
there's no reason to keep JAWS 9 on your system.

doing that, and do I need to reinstall it again? it's a real pain,
