Re: [JAWS-Users] Can't Seem To Close Microsoft Outlook 2000 down

2009-05-05 Thread Van Der Walt Riana
Donnie,

Uncheck the desktop alert in your outlook email settings menu. Then the
sound should go away if outlook is closed. It works that way on two
computers I use.

I don't think you have to remove anything from the system tray.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws 10 notepad

2009-05-05 Thread Gary Hale
Hi all,

Thanks to more help from you guys, I appreciate the suggestions and thanks
to those who told me that JAWS and Notepad can indeed get along together.

In my case, I had to figure out why JAWS worked with Notepad on my wife's
account but not on mine. In the Ease of Access Center (Windows Key + U),
there is a setting I had checked and my wife didn't. The setting is called
Make The Rectangle Focus Thicker and it's under the section called, Make
The Computer Easier To See.

I unchecked it, and Notepad works fine.

Thanks, everyone for the troubleshooting tips.

Gary

For your JAWS10 update problem: Just download the full version over top of
your current JAWS10. I hope the link is correct. You can get the latest
update from

Download links for the full 32bit version:
ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/JAWS/J10.0.1142.exe

If you still have problems updating, then completely remove your current
JAWS10 BEFORE REINSTALLING THE LATEST.

[JAWS-Users] Requesting Excel graphs and charts help

2009-05-05 Thread Elaine
Hi folks

I'm stuck again, lol, can anyone help me to figure out how to select charts and
graphs in excel?

I can create them but cant seem to select either the chart itself or any part
of it. once the focus goes off it, jaws cant appear to find it again.

I need to be able to move, copy, delete parts of the chart, that kind of thing.

then I also need to be able to alter the background colours and to be able to
select portions of a pie chart.

I'm using jaws 8 with xp pro and excel 2003.

thanks in advance

Hello Elaine,
In order to select objects, like charts and graphs, press control+shift+o.
This should bring up a list of all the objects in a worksheet, and then you
can arrow through and select the one you want.

Hope this helps,

[JAWS-Users] I'm having a problem when using Capital letters whencreating the message rule!

2009-05-05 Thread Alan Dicey

Hello Friend,
I use message rules quite often, and yes you are correct!

when you use capital letters when where the to line contains people or the
subject line contains specific words, that I've noticed that I have an
apostrophe before the capital letter.

I have always just ignored this, and the Rules work fine.

I would suggest you just ignore it also.

Just one of those things, one never understands about Windows!

But if it is working, no reason to try to fix it, my Father always said!

P.S. I've also noticed that when words are connected as an example,

separate the words in order to make sure that i hear the words properly.

If anyone has noticed this please let me know how to fix this problem.

Alan,

I do believe, as I previously indicated, that the apostrophe is a quotation
mark on either side of the string or name to define its boundaries for the
rule, (as it were).

[JAWS-Users] FW: aria live regions

2009-05-05 Thread Despain, Dallas

Hi,
I'm doing some work with Live Regions in a project and after implementing it, I
couldn't get it to work in IE8 and JAWS 10. I thought I must have implemented
it incorrectly so I went to

http://wiki.codetalks.org/wiki/index.php/Set_of_ARIA_Test_Cases#aria-live

to see if it worked better there. I can't get any of those live region test
cases to work correctly in IE 8. Is anyone else having this problem? The page
doesn't mention any problems with IE8 so I'm wondering if I have another issue
perhaps. Do they work for you? I tried rude, assertive, polite... everything.
Nothing works for me.

Thanks,

Dallas

Hi Marilyn,
If you press JAWS key and v, you will bring up the verbosity options.
Under this there should be an option for changing the Echo of your typing. If
this is set to off you will not hear what you type.
You can experiment with which setting you like but you will need to set it
in your default choices if you want it to stay they you set it.

God bless,
