[JAWS-Users] Upgrading to IE8
Hi I guess I must finally give in and upgrade from IE6. Many sights won't support IE6 any longer. When I do this, are there any things I must be careful to do or not do? How well will it work with Jaws 10? Thank you for helping this chicken. Marsha For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [JAWS-Users] Sudden Loss of authorizations
Hi Dale, this is interesting. I have no answers for you or clues as to what occurred. I can tell you that I use the dongle with the authorization key on it. Over the last six weeks or so I have had four dongles suddenly lose their authorization update information. For example I had updated the dongles to Jaws 11 from JAWS 9. Suddenly and without any reason that I can re-produce the dongles were reset back to JAWS 9 and this was discovered by going into the dongle viewer under tools in the jJAWS submenu. I had updated to JAWS 11 cconifirmed this with the dongle viewer and days later I was suddenly into forty minute mode. After checking the dongle viewer I discovered the dongle reverted back to JAWS 9. This has occurred using a PC (XP) as well as using a laptop. The laptop was weird in that if I used the docking station I had full access JAWS 11. If I took the laptop off the docking station I had only forty minute mode and the dongle was not recognized. I unfortunately did not at that time check the authorization of the dongle via the dongle viewer while the laptop was in the docking station or when it was out of the docking station. The I did contact FS and we went through a few hours of tech support and we did check the dogle at that time and it did state JAWS 11 while in both states. The end result was it could not be figured out so I had the laptop re-built and re-installed JAWS 9. So all of this to let you know that weird things are happening with the Aughorization of JAWS and no one can seem to re-produce the problems or fix the problems if they have occurred. Yesterday I had a dongle that was updated to JAWS 11 last week and this week I had to update it to JAWS 11 as it some how lost its update information. Weird or what!! Re: [JAWS-Users] Sudden Loss of authorizations
Ah well Robin, If the experts of Tech Support can't resolve it I guess I wouldn't know. Since my first version, Jaws 2.2 I have noticed varying levels of stability over the years. My sense is that version 3.7U was the most responsive and most stable but in fairness Jaws is becoming a very large and complex programme, perhaps too large and complex for the sort of reliability needed for high and dependable productivity. I know that if the sighted people I have worked along side of for decades now were forced to reboot their computers when accessing many Web sites or had their screens inexplicably drop into 40 minute demo mode computers would not be ubiquitous in business or health care and nobody would depend on one to fly an airplane. When the power came back on and I reverted out of battery stretch mode Jaws no longer seemed to mind being on my computer. - Original Message - From: East, Robin robin.e...@cra-arc.gc.ca To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Wednesday, November 03, 2010 9:50 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Sudden Loss of authorizations Hi Dale, this is interesting. Had the same problem, both on my XP desktop and Win 7 laptop. I un installed all versions of Jfw and re- install the program from the internet web site. Using the 32 bit for the desktop and the 64 bit for the laptop. Haven't had a problem since. Before I use the disk F S sent to do the install. Don't know if that was the problem or not. Hi David, I do enjoy your audio tutorial and I am anxious to hear your latest on image for windows. I have not yet purchase the software and I guess that I ran into some problems using the demo. It seems that I created the DVD's of my image successfully, but for some reason I tried to verify the image and the software cancelled with an error. So I gave up for the time being. Hi, Up until JAWS 11 they were. I think there is an issue with having more then one version at a time on a PC. Example JAWS 7.1, JAWS 9, and JAWS 11. Jaws 7.1 and JAWS 9 co-existed very well with the dongle. However, once JAWS 11 was introduced into the mix three became a crowd... Just a guess but the only logical answer I can come up with what I have seen on this list over the last while. robin -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of chris hallsworth Sent: November-03-10 1:32 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Sudden Loss of authorizations Wow. Some changes of hardware or some of their settings? I was furious the other day, our power went off for several hours so I switched my notebook to power saving mode. this makes several changes including altered processor speed, monitor changes, several other time-out functions. Jaws decided it should have a holiday too disclaiming authorization and going into 40 minute demo mode. Since 1998 I have purchased four, maybe five complete Jaws versions between me, my wife and my job and several SMAs from version 2.02 through 9. I haven't bothered using the two allowed upgrades from Jaws 9 since I know how to use google and don't need research it. Between that and jaws locking up on many Web pages and other frustrations I am losing patience with this product. I understand that there are thieves out there but there are limits to how much one can be inconvenienced. Anyway, major changes to your equipment can make jaws think it isn't in the original computer and it seems to get homesick. Re: [JAWS-Users] image for windows 3
The demo version will only restore an image if it is less than 30 days old if memory serves. David Ferrin ow...@jaws-users.com I believe that tomorrow is another day, and I'll probably screw that one up too. - Original Message - From: Lennie lenni...@mchsi.com To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Wednesday, November 03, 2010 1:05 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] image for windows 3 Hi David, I do enjoy your audio tutorial and I am anxious to hear your latest on image for windows. I have not yet purchase the software and I guess that I ran into some problems using the demo. It seems that I created the DVD's of my image successfully, but for some reason I tried to verify the image and the software cancelled with an error. So I gave up for the time being. I guess that I will now have to purchase the software in order to try it again since it has been long past the trial date. Keep up the good work. Prateek It is a program that makes an exact image of your computer's hard drive should you get a crash and need to reinstall your operating system and all programs. Very quick, easy, and accessible.
