[JAWS-Users] Problem with word.

2011-05-12 Thread Sue Morgan
Hi.

Below is detailed information about a problem that I'm having with Word.
Someone came back to me to tell me how to resolve it, which I did at the time,
but the problem has occurred again and I can't remember how to fix it.

Can anyone help by reading the text below?

Thanks.

Sue.

I was given a copy of Microsoft Office from a friend 12 months ago and my
computer is now telling me that it's not genuine. I've downloaded Genuine
Microsoft Advantage, but I'm not sure what to do next as Windows can't open the
program when I select it from downloads in Vista.
I've heard that there's something called Open Office which is free, but I don't
know anything about it. Does anyone on this list use it? If not, how can I make
my copy of Microsoft genuine. I'm really stuck so please help!!!
Thanks.
Sue.

Re: [JAWS-Users] IE 8 and menu bar problem

2011-05-12 Thread Rick Justice

Hi Norma,
Just because FS says a particular version of Jaws doesn't support a
particular application,

doesn't necessarily mean that it won't work with it.
I am still using Jaws 6.2 with IE 8, and except for some websites, it works
fine for me.

Results will always vary from system to system.
HTH,
Rick Justice

Gerald, I suggest you pass your information to tech support at Freedom
Scientific. When I contacted them a few months ago, they said Jaws 9 does
not support I.E. 8. It's fine to have your anecdotal information, but I
don't think you're in a position to make a claim different of that of F.S.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS and the folder list tree view in Thunderbird

2011-05-12 Thread Jani Kinnunen

Hi,

Is anyone else having the annoying problem of JAWS saying tree view
everytime when arrowing through the folder list in Thunderbird? Is there
any way to fix this, or is it something I have to live with until a next
JAWS update comes out?

Thanks,

Re: [JAWS-Users] IE 8 and menu bar problem

2011-05-12 Thread Gerald Levy

My observations are not based solely on anecdotal information. Eric
Damery himself, manager of software development for Freedom Scientific,
confirmed that IE 8 should be compatible with JAWS 9.0.2191U. Many users
who have complained about JAWS 9 not working with IE 8 had never updated to
the latest build. Indeed, some users have no idea which build of JAWS 9
they are running, and many never bother to check for updates. But if you
are running JAWS 9.0.2191U and are still experiencing problems with IE 8, it
may not be a JAWSissue. Other users have also reported that they have been
able to use IE 8 successfully with JAWS 9, so I'm not the only one.

'Support' in this context means technical or official support. It
doesn't mean no support. there would be little point in quibbling with
or raising this issue with FS, now that both these products have been

2011-05-12 Thread Steve
Well, you are either asking for something illegal, like getting a cracked
copy of Microsoft Office. If you want a genuine copy, you need to buy one.
If somebody gave you one, you are technically in violation of the EULA.

Obviously, it is showing up as not genuine because they have been sharing
their copy and it is probably been activated too many times.

As to your second question, Open Office is not very accessible.

Someone came back to me to tell me how to resolve it, which I did at the
time, but the problem has occurred again and I can't remember how to fix
it.

Can anyone help by reading the text below?

Thanks.

Sue.

I was given a copy of Microsoft Office from a friend 12 months ago and my
computer is now telling me that it's not genuine. I've downloaded Genuine
Microsoft Advantage, but I'm not sure what to do next as Windows can't
open the program when I select it from downloads in Vista.
I've heard that there's something called Open Office which is free, but I
don't know anything about it. Does anyone on this list use it? If not, how
can I make my copy of Microsoft genuine. I'm really stuck so please
help!!!

Thanks.
Sue.

If you are stuck with say build 2169 an one grab the scripts from build
2191U and copy the specific IE scripts from the all users folder into
the 2169 all users folder. Will this fix the issues

I hate to keep sounding like a broken record, but IE 8 works just fine
with JAWS 9. The key is that you must have the latest build of JAW 9
which is 2191U. IE 8 will not work with earlier builds of JAWS 9.
Maybe the folks who claim that IE 8 doesn't work with JAWS 9 did not

work is read Address Bar (JAWS key-A), which is really no big deal. I

[JAWS-Users] How well does JAWS work from users of IBM's Lotus product?

2011-05-12 Thread Keith Hinton
Hi all.
I use JAWS with Microsoft Office.
But what exactly does IBM Lotus include for JAWS users, and does JAWS
stay constantly up-to-date with version3.x that appears to be the
latest release?
How well does email work (if a client is provided) etc?
Does it work better (or less) than Microsoft Word?
What document types can JAWS users save documents in, can we create
professional documents with it?
Does it have menu bars, ribins, or what?
I'm curious if JAWS13 will keep the support for it going?
I'm also wondering if future updates will keep that Lotus product
going as well such as the cool minor builds Freedom Scientific
releases now, up to the final release of a new release?
I've liked how you folks kept JAWS11 updated even though you did
release JAWS12 and such, for instnace.
I hope you will do that for JAWS12 users as well, Eric and others at
Freedom Scientific.
But since Eric is the product manager, I'd like to hear from him on that.
If other users who have used JAWS with IBM Lotus can ttestify for me
on how well it works and some of the layout questions I asked like
menus etc, acrossed the apps, how well email works if that is
provided, if IMap is supported, and so on, I'd kind of like to know.
I'm considering trying it.
But I don't want to install it without knowing what I'm gettting
myself in for. I am on Windows Seven sixty four bit, so does IBM Lotus
work with this? I will not downgrade my OS just because it does not
work if that is true.
Thanks much!

I'm quite sure that the level of support will not be equal to what is
working today in MS Office but you must realize, we have been working on
MS Office and the Object Model it provides, for 15 years now. Having

[JAWS-Users] Outlook 2003 question.

2011-05-12 Thread Jenny Bomareto
Hello all,

Somehow when I open my e-mail my new messages are at the top and spread all
over my in-box instead of the bottom of my in-box. I want my new messages
at the bottom of the in-box like they used to be and not spread all over the
in-box. How do I fix this? This problem occurred yesterday and I still
haven't heard from anyone on the blind-computing group, so I wanted to send
my message to that group again plus the jaws users group. My e-mail program
that I use is outlook 2003.

All I did was plug my USB cable into my computer that came with my N86
phone so if someone that was going to call to help me with my phone the
person wouldn't have to wait for me to plug in the cable.

Seems strange that a USB cord would have changed the sequence of the way
e-mail comes into the in-box. Again my e-mail program is outlook 2003 not
outlook express.

doesn't necessarily mean that it won't work with it.
I am still using Jaws 6.2 with IE 8, and except for some websites, it

does not support I.E. 8. It's fine to have your anecdotal information,

[JAWS-Users] Major JFW 12 problems with Firefox

2011-05-12 Thread CrisMunoz54
Hello list,

I have been having all sorts of trouble with Firefox and the latest Jaws 12
release. In particular the Google Reader page. I wanted to share what I'm
experiencing and see if it may just be an issue with my machine or if others
are dealing with the same problems.

I have Google Reader as one of my homepages and when I launch Firefox, Jaws
always behaves as though the virtual cursor is turned off. In fact, Jaws
will say Application Mode On. In order to get Jaws to work properly, I
have to do an insert+z keystroke command and then Jaws will say Application
Mode off. I'll then be able to go around the page with no problems. This
particular issue only started when upgrading the Firefox 4.0 and is still
present with the latest Firefox 4.0.1 update. If while in Firefox and I go
back to my Google Reader page, either by clicking on the Reader link from
another Google site or through my saved bookmark at least 70% of the time,
the Application Mode On issue comes up.

I have noticed a marked increase of instances of Mozilla crashing with this
latest Jaws release as well. Again, it happns most often while on the Google
Reader page and while in Firefox in general. Either when I go to the Google
Reader page, close a link that I had opened from Google Reader or simply by
just having the page open or refreshing the page with the insert+escape key
command. Upwards of 10 times a day. It would happen every now and then with
the earlier versions of Jaws 12, but it has become a constant with the
latest JFW rlease. I at first thought it was an issue with Firefox or
perhaps a rogue add-on, but I have tried disabling add-ons and plug-ins and
Firefox was still crashing left and right. When I use an older version of
Jaws (11.0)

however, Firefox not only never crashes, but the over all responsiveness of
the browser and JFW feel over all snappier and better. With JFW 12, using
the browser had become painfully slow either through regular navigating from
page to page as well as when trying to refresh a page. Seconds would go by
before Jaws would be able to speak. Not to mention the crashing problem.
Jaws would outright crash much more frequently too.

I don't experience the browser crashing issue in IE8, but the over all
sluggishness with JFW 12 is present along with using other applications. I
at first thought that I had been infected with a virus or other malware, but
with the older version of 11.0, my computer is much, much more responsive.

I do however experience the Application Mode On issue with JFW 11.0 as
well. So maybe it's a Firefox 4.0 thing in regards to this.

There are a couple of other problems, but the ones above are what are
giving me the most problems. Is anyone else experiencing any of these
problems or have any ideas on what may be causing it?

Like I said, when using JFW 11.0, a lot of what I mentioned above doesn't
happen. All my antivirus and malware stuff is up to date. I was going to
shoot an email off to Freedom Scientific, but wanted to get feedback from
other Jaws users as well. This is the first time a new Jaws release has
given me this much trouble since I don't know when and want to be sure it's
perhaps not something on my end.

 Thanks,

 Cristobal

Hi all:
I'm continuing the slow switch from Mac to PC and was wondering,
what's a good FTP client that is fully accessible with JFW?

Thanks,

Jorge

You might take a look at Lotus Symphony. It is the IBM version of Open
Office with iAccessible2. You should find this much more accessible then
Open Office and it is available for use at home for free.

Buy a copy, I'm afraid. Open office doesn't work at all well with JAWS.

Hi.

Below is detailed information about a problem that I'm having with
Word. Someone came back to me to tell me how to resolve it, which I
did at the time, but the problem has occurred again and I can't
remember how to fix it.

Can anyone help by reading the text below?

Thanks.

Sue.

I was given a copy of Microsoft Office from a friend 12 months ago and

my computer is now telling me that it's not genuine. I've downloaded
Genuine Microsoft Advantage, but I'm not sure what to do next as
Windows can't open the program when I select it from downloads in
Vista.
I've heard that there's something called Open Office which is free,
but I don't know anything about it. Does anyone on this list use it?
If not, how can I make my copy of Microsoft genuine. I'm really stuck
so please help!!!

Thanks.
Sue.

If all you need is a basic word processing program, then consider
downloading Jarte which is free, easy to use and fully compatible with
JAWS. It has plenty of features including a spell checker and has
straightforward menus instead of dreaded ribbons.

Well, you are either asking for something illegal, like getting a cracked
copy of Microsoft Office. If you want a genuine copy, you need to buy
one. If somebody gave you one, you are technically in violation of the
EULA.

Obviously, it is showing up as not genuine because they have been sharing
their copy and it is probably been activated too many times.

As to your second question, Open Office is not very accessible.
