[JAWS-Users] New Computer

2011-06-10 Thread Donnie Parrett
Within the next couple weeks I will be getting a new computer. It will be an
HP Pro, Windows 7, 64
bit machine. Could someone please give me the basics on what and how I need to
set it up for
maximum use with JAWS 12? Oh yeah, it will be coming with Office 2010. For
the past 11 years I
have been using a Compact Home, Windows XP with Office 2000, and currently
running JAWS 11. I think
I will be in for quite a few big changes. I'm hoping that you can teach an old
dog some new
tricks!!!

Thanks,
Donnie

It occurs to me that I haven't posted such a message for quite a while so
here is the current subscriber total to this list. Not counting the mail
archive service that I have been using for several years we now have 554
members. Personally I'm impressed or to say the least surprised.

Blind computing now has 398 subscribers. I'm glad there is a lot of space
for the database on the server.

The most important thing is that things remain orderly on here which as a
rule they sure are, thanks to the membership for making our jobs of running
these things on the easier side lately.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Braille Focus40 Blue and WhizWheelsettodisplaypanning

2011-06-10 Thread Flor Lynch
I wonder if how the whiz Wheels move if set to display panning has
something to do with the fixed panning increment value? Looking at
JAWS11, the default value there was set to 28 cells. (I probably changed
that in JAWS12, when I was moving over from a Braille Note.) Anyway,
it's interesting having the Focus at this moment with JAWS, to be sure.

Well, it is really great to be able to switch braille editing and
reading modes. That's my favorite new feature I guess. I wonder what
jaws v13 will offer for focus display users. I guess we will just have
to wait and see! (smile)

Well, it's still present through the latest update when i went to

so
I can then use the left panning button to move forward to the next
line

as I reach the end of the braille line. .

Hi,

When the Whiz Wheel is set to Display Panning, that should mean,
should

it not, that you navigate the display by only one display-width at 1
roll of the wheel up or down. However, i find, using JAWS12, when
reading a document, that instead it goes up or down by a line of text
on
the screen, so that you'd often miss the remainder of the line after
40
cells. Has anyone else found this? Fortunately there are other ways
of

reading a complete whole line. But I just thought I'd mention this,
since either I misunderstand what it does or it's not doing what it's
supposed to do (in this case). (I'm using windows xP.) Thanks.

Yes, if you have the Jaws 12 CD it will recognize what OS you have and
install the appropriate version. If not, you go to the FS site and download
either the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of Jaws, depending on your Windows 7

Re: [JAWS-Users] what is the best way to uninstall previous versions ofJaws

2011-06-10 Thread Bissett, Tom
No do not uninstall the shared components. As the name suggests these are
files shared by all the versions of jaws. If you remove them non of your
versions of jaws will work.
That is why running an older version of jaws after installing a newer version
the older version may not perform as it did before because it will be using the
newer version of some files in the shared directory.
Again do not uninstall the shared components. If you need to roll back to an
earlier version uninstall the newer version and then run a repair on the
earlier version to roll back the shared components.

Re: [JAWS-Users] what is the best way to uninstall previous versions of Jaws

I wouldn't use a third party uninstaller because you may not be given the
option to keep shared components which you need to keep.

Some of that stuff I imagine does not need to be saved, so point taken. The
talking installer will go back in with the next version unless I miss my

If you remove shared components, my experience is that you also remove
the settings files of other versions as well as the talking installer.
