[JAWS-Users] How do I set outlook 2007 to open all emails as plain text
hello. I'm having too much trouble with JAWS responsiveness and readability with emails that are rich text with a bunch of links and graphics and such. I'd like to set outlook 2007 which I'm using such that it opens all emails irrespective of whiter the mail was in rich text and riddled with links and stuff, as plain text. Would really appreciate the path to go to from the Outlook menu to get to the place to set this preference. Thanks much! I have mastered the basics of those programs to do what typical tasks I do. now on to Outlook. I got that installed ok last night and when it first opened I was impressed that it seemed to bring all my info over automatically from 2000. All my folders, contacts, settings etc seemed to be there. From that point on it was all downhill. I kept all default settings to try to get the hang of the basics. I am using FS JAWS ribbon feature. I played with it for almost 2 hours and could get no where. I was able to navigate the folder tree and figured out how to expand and collapse messages. However I could not get my mail to come into the inbox or read any messages in there. From the tree I could tab to what I am assuming is the message pane. I could use the arrow key to go up and down to hear who a message was from but if I hit enter to open the message I could not read the contents with standard JAWS reading keys. I have a lot of mail to deal with during the day and somehow need to learn some basics before using this. I finally ended up uninstalling for now and reinstalling Outlook 2000 until I can be confident I can at least get mail, read it, adjust some settings to keep mail on the server, etc. From first impressions it appears to be a giant learning curve from 2000. Any helpful tips, tutorials, etc? I am going to look around myself too and see what is available. Just finding what you want in those ribbons an overwhelming. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS saying the thing that is not
Yes. I am also seeing this when I am 1. working in a bulleted list, JAWS reads something that is not there when I press enter at the end of a line to add a new bullet. 2. deleting something that has been highlighted. 3. working in Excel after entering info into a cell and moving to a new cell. Annette -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Ann byrne Sent: Saturday, October 01, 2011 8:29 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS saying the thing that is not Maybe I'm just getting cranky---a definite possibility--but I find myself saying more and more often to my students, "JAWS is lying to you." 1. When opening a new document or application, JAWS often rereads the previous screen before reading the screen it just opened. To a newby, this is way confusing. 2. When reading dates, JAWS speaks a 'th' or 'st' or 'rd' after the date, even though it isn't there. It is important to me to know what I wrote, not what JAWS thinks I want to hear. 3. When working with an outline in Word 2010, JAWS often but not consistently reports the line I just pressed enter on, and not the new line with the outline number. So when I'm planning a party--my favorite outline--it says "2. send invitations' and not '3', which is where the cursor is. I don't think I'm imagining this. Is anyone else having these kinds of issues??? thanks. [JAWS-Users] Jaws Reading List Views in Windows 7
Using Jaws 12 or 13 when opening a folder that is empty, Jaws says the following: Items list box, read only What happened to Jaws saying: list view zero items This is not a machine specific occurrence, I have it read that way on several different ones. [JAWS-Users] Dual Clocks in Windows 7
Since Jaws uses a function within the scripts to obtain the system time, it doesn't look like it will get the time of an additional clock without some scripting. Has anyone tried the OCR function in Jaws 13? Maybe a question to FS might be in order. [JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader Program. So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better with scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we all know works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain task or want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently. Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It creates a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal place I am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no matter how new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the confidence to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the list will be there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help is quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than first. So try it yourself first what ever it might happen to be. If you get stuck then let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your current dilemma. Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if there is a software package that does a specific task and works well with JAWS is perfectly fine. The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of Freedom Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then I suggest you take it up with Freedom Scientific directly. Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible. Also any news letters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not be posted to the list prior to receiving moderator approval. Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done for your protection. The message list might state that there is an attachment but in fact Mailman does remove them. When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply delete messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are over 450 subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on here. Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines, then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions that are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not receive an answer for a number of reasons. Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list. There you will find the group web address along with some other relevant information pertaining to contacting the management team ETC. Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you may receive an email from the Mailman program asking you to reactivate your account. Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and follow the directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after receiving a number of such messages then we will figure that you no longer wish to be a member of the list and remove your email address. The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with flirting or other such inappropriate activities. this is not a high tech swap shop or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or services will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given subject is off topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the subject line does not make it all right. Cross-posting is not permitted, and members should only post in the following manner: Using the TO: field with only one list address. The SUBJECT: field should be short and to the point without including any member names. The reason for this is that in cases where people setup their message rules to go by the To: field often times such rules get fowled up and in effect do not work properly. Also cross posting might allow you to reach many lists at the same time but the fact is such a post might not be on topic for each and every list. This practice does nothing but clutter up such lists with unwanted off topic messages along with annoying the list moderators. Lastly please no jokes, virus warnings, recipes, safety tips, or pleas to help dying kids, should ever be forwarded to the list. No auto responders are to be used on this list! Those who use auto responders for vacations and so forth must make sure that this list is not included. Any person who sends an auto response message will be removed! My hope is that this li
