[JAWS-Users] settings won't save

2012-04-24 Thread Kliphton
Hello, I have to user profiles on my PC, one for business, the other for
personal. But when I switch between users, jaws always pops up that start
up wizard. And the only way to get my settings back on either user profile,
is to restart my computer twice. Is there any way to keep settings saved on
both users?

[JAWS-Users] not a writing program

2012-04-24 Thread sandy stegmayer
Dear listers,

After hearing from someone on a different list regarding my search for a
“writing” program, I’ve come to the conclusion that is actually not what I am
looking for.
I am looking for something that will let me “dump” bits of information such as
you would put in a notebook, on notecards, in a file cabinet and the like Not
only could it hold text, but also scanned documents and photos. In other words,
it would hold all the info I need for a research project and I could search it
for “John Smith” and everything related to him would come up.

In the past, I have come across some programs but their demos haven’t seemed
accessible with JAWS.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Sandy

[JAWS-Users] itunes

2012-04-24 Thread jim
hi lenny:

I also use itunes.
Some times it can be difficult but most of the time its rewarding to use itunes.
Here are a few tips.
Here is how to do a search for an album.
In the source tree view, of the itunes program go down to the itunes store:
either press f6 or shift+tab to go to the search itunes edit box.
type in the album you are looking for and press enter.
Press h for heading, until you here album, arrow down one time to show all link
and press enter.
Press h for heading and then press g for graphic link to look at the names of
all the albums.
when you find the album you want press enter.
Press h for heading until you come to the album review.
Below this heading is the demo buttons.
Press the letter b to go to the first demo button and press b again to go to
the buy individual buy song button.
If you like the album and want to buy it, just go to the top of the page and
press b one time , this will take you to the buy album button.
It just takes a little getting used to but itunes is not really that hard to
use.
When on the itunes home page with itunes:
If you want to go to the music page:
Insert+f7, bring up link list.
Press enter on the music link towards the bottom of the list.
h for headings.
g for graphic links between the headings.
b for buttons.
If you have any more questions about itunes feel free to email me off list...
I hope this helps.

[JAWS-Users] Google Drive

2012-04-24 Thread Cristobal
So, it looks like the long rumored Google Drive is for real. Google even
specifically mentions that screen reader users will be able to use it. I
havent' had a chance to play with it, but I'm going to guess that they're
only refering to the storage aspects and not the Google Docs part that have
so far been a screen reading disaster. Has anyone been able to try it out
yet? They even talk about OCR recognition.

Considering that it offers way more free storage than Dropbox, I think I may
give it a shot especially once they put out their IOS app. Below is the
Google Blog update. I came across it via Lifehacker.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 13 April Update, 852 is released

2012-04-24 Thread David Ferrin

From: Eric Damery
Sent: Tuesday, April 24, 2012 1:22 PM
To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com
Subject: JAWS 13 April Update, 852 is released

All,

If you have JAWS 13 and have not gotten the update to build 852 yet, restarting
JAWS 13 now should prompted you for the update. We have also posted the full
build on our download pages now if you have any trouble with the auto update.

Below is the list of changes.

Regards,

Eric Damery

Enhancements in JAWS 13.0.852 (April 2012)

The following is a list of items addressed or added between the final JAWS
13.0.718 release and the JAWS 13.0.852 posting.

a.. Improved how JAWS works in ARIA menus in Internet Explorer and Firefox.
b.. A new DAISY book on using the Convenient OCR feature is now available. To
install this book, select Check for Updates from the JAWS Help menu, then
choose Convenient OCR DAISY Book.
c.. The NBA, NHL, and MLB ResearchIt lookup sources now include the city for
each team in the results just like with the NFL lookup source.
d.. Resolved issues with the NFL and Business Search ResearchIt lookup
sources not correctly returning results.
e.. Resolved a reported issue where in some cases, characters would be
missing when typing in Microsoft Word.
f.. Addressed issues encountered in WPF applications when selecting text and
navigating by paragraph.
g.. Resolved an issue with the GetColumnText built--in script function not
working as expected in Microsoft Excel.
h.. JAWS now announces the character being deleted when you press the
BACKSPACE key in the Express version of Visual Studio 2010.
i.. When US International is set as the default input language in Windows 7
64-bit, addressed an issue where the Typing Echo setting in JAWS was not
honored when entering text using 32-bit applications such as Microsoft Word or
Internet Explorer. In addition, JAWS would echo the characters in password edit
fields.
j.. In Internet Explorer, If an ARIA live region is inside of an iframe, JAWS
will now read the live region as expected.
k.. Resolved an intermittent issue under Windows 7 64-bit where JAWS would
not close properly when attempting to shut down or reboot the computer. When
this occured, the computer would need to be manually powered off.
l.. When performing any of the JAWS table navigation keystrokes in a message
in Lotus Notes, JAWS now indicates that table navigation is not supported. This
functionality is not available in Lotus Notes.
m.. Resolved a customer reported issue where Excel 2010 on Windows XP would
unexpectedly close when attempting to navigate in the Names Manager dialog box.
n.. When navigating a form in Microsoft Word that contains dropdown combo
boxes, resolved an issue where braille Structured Mode was showing mnu instead
of cbo when the field is closed.
o.. Resolved an issue in Microsoft Word where the message press F1 for help
was not being flashed in braille when focused on a form field that offers
associated help. If the F1 Help option in Quick Settings is set to Read with
formfield, the help message for a form field is also now flashed in braille.
p.. Resolved an issue where only the last word was underlined in braille
after pressing CTRL+A to select all in a multi-line edit field in Firefox.
q.. Addressed an issue in Microsoft Outlook where JAWS was saying bogus
radio button when using the INSERT+B command to read the Appointment
Recurrence dialog box.
r.. Addressed issues of JAWS not properly identifying Move-up and Move-down
buttons in various Microsoft Office dialog boxes.
s.. Resolved a customer reported issue where the message computer braille
was being announced after every keystroke when composing a message in Lotus
Notes 7.
t.. Improved JAWS reading when navigating in ARIA treeviews in Firefox 11.
u.. Resolved an issue with navigating in a Microsoft Word form that uses a
table where pressing INSERT+TAB was not reporting the current position in the
form. This command worked correctly when used in a table that was not part of a
form. In addition, the contents of form fields are now announced before the
table position information.
v.. Resolved an issue where pressing INSERT+H in Lotus Notes to list the
available hot keys was displaying command descriptions, but not the associated
keystroke.
w.. JAWS now correctly recognizes the datatable=0 tag attribute in Firefox.
x.. Resolved a customer reported issue where JAWS was not working properly
with the Nuance Enterprise Express Editor, a medical transcription plugin for
Word.
y.. Resolved an issue using JAWS with the Key Note Gold speech synthesizer.
z.. Updated the JAWS help for Microsoft Access to clarify which keystrokes
only work in Access 2003.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] not a writing program

Dear listers,

After hearing from someone on a different list regarding my search for a
writing program, I've come to the conclusion that is actually not what I
am looking for.
I am looking for something that will let me dump bits of information such
as you would put in a notebook, on notecards, in a file cabinet and the like
Not only could it hold text, but also scanned documents and photos. In other
words, it would hold all the info I need for a research project and I could
search it for John Smith and everything related to him would come up.

In the past, I have come across some programs but their demos haven't seemed
accessible with JAWS.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Sandy

After calling F S I asked if un installing would solve my problem and than
downloading the update off the F S site . Was told most likely. She went on
to explain to install J.13.0.852 as a administrator and how, highlighting
the exe file, by using the content key and entering on run... , after
rebooting the computer. Followed the prompts and the unknown file is
now gone, and it appears to be reading in O E some what better and at the
top of the message.

P. S. She offered to work me thru the process, but told her if I had a

2012-04-24 Thread Rick Justice
Hi Graham,
I got the same message on my Win7 system.
I went into manage application settings, and unchecked my default, and
okayed my way out of the dialogue.
There was another dialogue that had popped-up somewhere along the line, but
I couldn't capture it.
It made a reference to the startup wizard, which happened to open once I got
out of the manage applications dialogue.
I went thru the wizard, and after that everything seems to be okay.
HTH,
