Re: [JAWS-Users] Looking for JAWS compatible backup software
Hi Christobal, The problem with the built-in Windows backup feature is that is does not saves EXE files in normal incremental backups. In my case I could not backup incrementally my development folder structure and its content. I had problems with it during backing up my e-mails, too. Some mails are not backed up. The other problem with it, that it does not compress the disk image type backups. It makes only a file-to-file copy as disk image. You can not restore it to an empty disk as a one-click-restore. Currently I use Norton Ghost, but it is not fully JAWS compatible. Greg: Many of the old shortcut keys still work. You'll find the delete messages on exit, checkbox, in the Maintenance... Tab button and dialogue of the WLM Options Advanced... tab control. You get into the Options dialogue from the message list (in the same way you could in Outlook Express) by presssing ctrl+shift+O there. - Original Message - From: "inthaneelf" To: Sent: Wednesday, May 01, 2013 11:04 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Live Mail many such answers are in my windows live mail help file downloadable from my website: http://grabbag.alacorncomputer.com regards, inthaneelf -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of DGCNC Sent: Tuesday, April 30, 2013 4:58 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Windows Live Mail I have a new Windows 7 machine and would like to import the saved messages from the old hard drive. Bigger is not always better. Remember, if you get a 4TB drive as compared to a 1TB drive, the magnetic plates are thinner, so the failure rate is going to be marginally higher. So, balance your storage needs versus longevity. Also, solidstate drives won't tolerate as many write/rewrites, so they are better as a place where you load your operating system and programs, i.e. things that you won't move and rewrite as much. SSD's do fail, and typically, when they do it is pretty sudden and likely data is lost. That 12TB drive you mentioned had multiple RAID backups to protect it from failing, but then for $240,000 bucks I'd hope it would. Take my advice, I don't use it anyway. Re: [JAWS-Users] Has anyone had problems withjaws and displaying links on a web page?
Hi David, I had the same problem with Firefox 20 under Vista. It seems to be a problem in Firefox. You should downgrade to a version between 17 and 19. You can donwload the older versions from Mozilla's Archives. You don't need uninstall Firefox 20. During the downgrading process (which is a simply installation of the older version) will not harm your current Firefox data (bookmarks, passwords, etc.) They will be available in the older version, too. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws-compatible Terabites
Just one slight caveat. [JAWS-Users] Send To, How To Add Folders / Places To It
Every computer user has one specific place or folder in windows where he / she likes to dump all of his / her files and folders. It can be My Documents folder, C drive, D drive, Desktop or anywhere in Windows. In order to put your files and folder at your favourite place, each time you have to follow either of these two classic methods : Note: I know all of you know these basic things, but their is something else which i want to tell you all. Just keep reading it First Method 1. Select your file or folder which you want to move or copy 2. Right click to display a context menu 3. Click “Copy” or "Cut" 4. Go to the location where you want to put your file or folder 5. Right click to display a context menu 6. Click “Paste” Second Method 1. Select your file or folder which you want to move or copy 2. Press CTRL + C to copy or CTRL + X to cut (move) 3. Go to the location where you want to put your file or folder 4. Press CTRL + V to paste it Following the above steps looks easy but when there is a way to speed up the whole process, than why not use that option. Whenever you right click any file or folder, (you noticed or not) their is an option of Send To in the context menu. The shortcut key for it after pressing the application key is letter, N. By default, there are some limited options available in that menu, but you can add your own folder or location over there and than can easily copy any file or folder to your favorite folder or location instantly. But before moving ahead, let's see what the default options available in the Send To menu are. Default Options In The Send To Menu Right click any file or a folder and select the Send To option from the menu. For example, at one of my PC these are the options available in the Send To menu. Let me tell you briefly about the most common options of the Send To menu : Compressed (zipped) Folder : Clicking this option will quickly creates a compressed file (Zip file) and copies the selected files or folders to it. Desktop (create shortcut) : Clicking this option will create a shortcut of your file or folder on the desktop. My Documents or Documents : Clicking this option will create a Copy of the selected file or folder to the Documents folder. Fax Recipient : Clicking this option will allows you to send the file as a fax via the Windows Fax and Scan tool. (you need to configure windows to work like that) Mail Recipient : Clicking this option will allows you to easily attach a file to an e-mail message. (It will only work if you have installed any email client. For e.g. Ms-Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird etc.) CD/DVD RW drive : Clicking this option will create a Copy of the selected file or folder to the CD/DVD drive, so that you can burn your documents easily on the CD/DVD. USB drive : Clicking this option will create a Copy of the selected file or folder to the USB drive (if it's already plugged into your computer) 3 1/2 Floppy (A:) : Clicking this option will create a Copy of the selected file or folder to the floppy drive (if you have that in your computer) How To Add Any Folder In The Send To Menu After knowing much about the Send To menu, now let's see how you can add your favorite folder in it. By doing that you can easily copy your files / folders by simply right clicking it. Note: You can also add Copy To or Move To option in your right click menu, but I recommend that method only to those people who know what they are doing. Go to the location of your favorite folder, Right Click it, click Send To and select Desktop (create shortcut) It will instantly create a shortcut on the desktop of your folder. Now go to your Desktop and Right click the Shortcut folder and select Rename. Just remove the word Shortcut from it or Rename it whatever you want. In Win XP 1. Click Start Menu 2. Click RUN 3. Type, shell:sendto, and click enter. In Win 7 1. Click Start Menu. 2. Type, shell:sendto, in the search box and press Enter. After using this command in WinXP and Win 7, you will see a window that will pop-up with some icons or shortcuts. Now copy that folder shortcut from the Desktop (which you created before) and paste it in this Send To folder. That's it. Right click any file and folder, click Send To and you will see your favorite folder name or location in the menu as well. Last Words The Send To option has been available in all the version of Windows for a long time, but not many people are able to utilize it at its potential. By following these steps, you can add as many folders in the Send To menu as you want and then you don't have to go to each folder and manually copy / paste the items. Give it a try. I think it was meant 12gig and not 12t. Because a 12t in SSD would cost more than thinkable. [JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader Program. So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better with scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we all know works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain task or want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently. Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It creates a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal place I am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no matter how new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the confidence to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the list will be there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help is quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than first. So try it yourself first what ever it might happen to be. If you get stuck then let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your current dilemma. Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if there is a software package that does a specific task and works well with JAWS is perfectly fine. The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of Freedom Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then I suggest you take it up with Freedom Scientific directly. Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible. Also any news letters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not be posted to the list prior to receiving moderator approval. Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done for your protection. The message list might state that there is an attachment but in fact Mailman does remove them. When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply delete messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are over 550 subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on here. Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines, then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions that are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not receive an answer for a number of reasons. Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list. There you will find the group web address along with some other relevant information pertaining to contacting the management team ETC. Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you may receive an email from the Mailman program asking you to reactivate your account. Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and follow the directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after receiving a number of such messages then we will figure that you no longer wish to be a member of the list and remove your email address. The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with flirting or other such inappropriate activities. this is not a high tech swap shop or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or services will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given subject is off topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the subject line does not make it all right. Cross-posting is not permitted, and members should only post in the following manner: Using the TO: field with only one list address. The SUBJECT: field should be short and to the point without including any member names. The reason for this is that in cases where people setup their message rules to go by the To: field often times such rules get fowled up and in effect do not work properly. Also cross posting might allow you to reach many lists at the same time but the fact is such a post might not be on topic for each and every list. This practice does nothing but clutter up such lists with unwanted off topic messages along with annoying the list moderators. Lastly please no jokes, virus warnings, recipes, safety tips, or pleas to help dying kids, should ever be forwarded to the list. Forwarded messages and attachments are not permitted. If you have an article or message of interest which relates to the nature of this list send it to the list owner and if it is appropriate, it will be posted to the list. Additionally

If you can afford 3tb, you need 3tb lol. Remember when computers were really something if they had 128K of memory? Now, you couldn't even turn the thing on with that small a memory. Programs just get bigger and the things we use computers for just get more complex. So, use your own judgment. Whatever you buy, you will fill it up with priceless stuff you can't bear to lose. This one has 12 terabites.tThat means 12 thousand gigabites I think. So, how do you like that? I for one love it and cant weight until it comes out. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Nicole Valicia Thompson-Andrews Sent: Wednesday, May 01, 2013 12:34 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws-compatible Terabites Thanks. So the terabite thing doesn't mater when it comes to Jaws. I'm just saying incase no one has explained the terabite thing to you. It just means you'll have 2000 gigabites of memory. The software is the problem, and I guess some of it does work with JAWS from what I've been reading here, I haven't used mine though. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Nicole Valicia Thompson-Andrews Sent: Tuesday, April 30, 2013 9:15 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws-compatible Terabites I saw on Bestbuy that Western digital has My passport. It works just fine. As for software, it does have it, I even think it's manual is on it too. But, I don't use it. It even has a way to format it built right in. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Nicole Valicia Thompson-Andrews Sent: Tuesday, April 30, 2013 7:09 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws-compatible Terabites Mellissa is my pen name, I ran out of room to add that to my signature. Yes, I'm looking for an external hard drive that works with Jaws. I read that terabites come with auto-installing software.
