I'm using Ava right now. She'f quite expressive no pun entended but not as
much as I expected. I'm no longer using Elequence. I'm just using Ava. It's
so disappointing they got rid of Jenn though. I loved Jenn. She was a very
good reading voice. But then again, I may have just gotten too use to her
from listening to the PTR1 and PTR2 manuals over, over, over, over, over,
over, over, over and over and over again. Front to back too. Jill was okay
too. Sam sounds annoyed kind of, and she's also too cliché for my taste. The
Apple stuff has her, The first Victor Streem had her, and on it goes. Enough
already with Sam! I really wish they'd bring Jenn back I wouldn't mind her
all over the place. Smile. Also, why don't they ever use hot chicks for
these voices? It's always women in there 40s or something. Let's hear some
hot chick for once. Even some girlly 36 year old or something.

Hi Guys,
I have installed the U.S. Vocalizer Expressive voices on my machine. I have
used Ava a little and I don't think that I have ever heard a happier
sounding synthetic voice, unlike Samantha, who always sounds a little mad.
I wish that Ava was available for my iPhone. Overall though, for JAWS, I
still prefer plain old Eloquence. I have used it for 15 years or so, ever
sense they started packaging it with JAWS, and I have just gotten so use to
it that it seems a little strange using anything else. The Eloquence voice
itself sounds very robotic but I think that it does a better job at very
high speeds and the pronunciation is a little better than many of these more
natural sounding voices.
Thanks,

Allison, Ava, Smantha, and Tom are the U.S. voices. However, they are very
expressive as was discussed in the latest FS cast as compared to previous
versions. The direct version does not indicate caps by raising pitch like
the expressive version. I am using Ava myself and am very happy with the
response on my Windows 7 64 bit running both jaws and magic with 6 gigs of
ram.
I am not up on all the additional voices for other countries but I am
impressed with all the vocalizer expressive voices out there for everyone
already.
I am also very happy with the first public beta so far.
It's playing very well with Magic 12 and comes in handy on all these
overcrowded web sites today.

[JAWS-Users] Problems Sorting E-mail

2013-09-12 Thread Scott Duck
Hello,

I'm using JAWS 15 with Windows 8 and Office 2010. Recently, I find that I
cannot sort my E-mail in Outlook. I want to sort a particular folder by
sender in order to find a set of E-mails. I go to view arrangement
arrange by. When I press space or enter, nothing happens. This used to
work and now it doesn't and I don't understand why. It is not a JAWS 15
issue because I tried it running JAWS 14 and got the same result. I'm sure
that I'm missing something simple but I can't think of what it might be.
It's 5:00am and I haven't had my coffee yet and that may be the problem.
Anyway, for the moment, I'm stumped. If anyone can, please help.

Thanks,

Scott Duck

I discovered why the jfw15 jestures did not work. Narrator
was also set to start when windows starts, so then I just
turned off Narrator but then Jaws jestures did not work.
When I set Narrator not to start everything is fine. The
reason why I had narrator to start was in case jaws did not
start propperly the first time after installation.

Ok, I have my puntuation set right, as FS has set it for me, and I don't
want JAWS to say the word quote in a text docqument. I at first had JAWS set

put quotes to none, and JAWS is still reading the word quote in all my word
doquments, and even in emails that have quotes around words, so I had them
see if it is a bug, and they are not sure what is going on, so my question
is what ells can I do to stop JAWS from reading the quotes. I am at a lose,
and I had asked here when I got the computer but I did not hear any thing

Hi there,
It is my understanding that even though that application works well with
Jaws,
if you want to be rid of the nag messages, you will have to pay for it.
Now maybe I'm not thinking straitht, but it seems a little silly to pay for
an application to access a free service when we are already paying for a
screen-reader,
which with a little practice will get the job done.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 15 beta

2013-09-12 Thread David Ferrin
I have been using GW connect for several years already because Skype is such
a moving target. The only reason I took another look at Skype itself is
because Eric mentioned updated support for the program. It does seem to be
as advertised and I do need to review the hotkeys ETC but it was more
manageable in the few minutes I had to mess around with it last evening. I
will look at it again today some time. I try and review any and all updates
in JAWS that pertain to me in order to give myself as complete a picture as
possible.

Skype itself has video support which is not a major deal but the last time I
spoke to my brother he insisted I turn on my camera. Then he complained it
wasn't in HD, some peoples' kids. I told him that he should already know
what I look like since he only lives across town from here.

I might go back to using Skype more often depending on some other factors,
but without scripting support from JAWS it would be worthless for the most
part. Quite sad if you think about it, just because an interface can be made
all fancy why do all of that work to put out a free program.
David Ferrin
A complex system that does not work is invariably found to have evolved from
a simpler system that worked perfectly.

Susie,
I may not understand your situation correctly but I think that I may see
your problem here. If you have gone into the settings center and changed
the setting for quotation marks to none then it will read the quotation
marks when you have punctuation verbosity set to none or anything more
verbose than none. All of the other punctuation verbosity settings are more
verbose than none so it will always read the quotation marks. Not sure if
that made sense. Go in and change the setting for quotation marks to all
and then, unless you have your punctuation verbosity set to all, it
shouldn't read them. If this doesn't make enough sense, let me know and
I'll try to explain better.

Skype itself has video support which is not a major deal but the last time I

what I look like since he only lives across town from here.

I might go back to using Skype more often depending on some other factors,

I learned this just yesterday reading Smart Computing. It seems that both
Windows 7 8 have this feature. Look for it in your search box and check it
out. I find it an interesting read.

I haven't learned my entire way around it but with luck and the basement
doesn't flood I will get there someday. BTW I don't have a basement so no
worries there.

I read that, also before that, for like Sept 9, it was not showing any
problems on my laptop. But there is another link that I guess will show more
issues in the past, and give solutions. It's very easy to use this screen
information. I liked reading about those known issues I've had. Like that
wireless adapter cutting out on me, it even had stated when internet
explorer had stopped working, some window's mail issues too.

So far for me it is quite responsive, quick to load on this 64 bit system
and even though fancy voices normally don't really matter to me I must say
that the new expressive voices are very good. Last year when those voices
came out I was working with one of them and I found out about the capital

I'm still kicking the tires so to speak but I have no problems at all so

[JAWS-Users] Quotes, Stopping Jaws From Reading Them

2013-09-12 Thread Mike B.
Hi Susie Q,

Follow the steps below but, in the steps below the, apostrophy, is used as
the example. In your case insert quotes for apostrophy.

You can change how Jaws speaks the apostrophy in the Settings Centter
default all applications by doing the following:

1. Press Insert + 6, on the number row above the main keyboard to open the
Settings Center, press, Control, shift, + D, to open default all
applications.
2. Arrow down to, Punctuation closed press right arrow to open.
3. Arrow down to customize punctuation press the spacebar to open. Don't
press enter here, if you press enter instad of the spacebar, the Settings
Center
will close.
4.A. When making changes in the customize punctuation list, if you do not
want
Jaws to speak/recognize a particular punctuation mark you want to choose the
all selection. You will have 4 radio buttons to arrow up or down
through. They are none, some, most, all. In these selections they work
backwards than what you would think. For example; If you choose none
for the dollar sign, Jaws will speak / recognize every dollar sign in
whatever you are reading. On the other hand, if you choose the all
radio button, Jaws will not speak / recognize any dollar signs.

4.B. After you pressed the spacebar on customize punctuation, you are now in
a list of punctuation marks. Arrow down the list and when
you have the punctuation mark you want to change highlighted, tab 1 time to
the radio buttons that I mentioned earlier.
5. Keeping in mind what I mentioned earlier about these choices working
backwards, select the box in this list, in your case not wanting any
apostrophy's spoken, choose the all button.
6. Now, if you want to make a change to another punctuation mark, shift tab
back to the list and highlight a different punctuation mark, tab back to the
radio buttons and select the box you prefer.
7. After you are done making your changes tab to okay and press the
spacebar.
8. Tab to apply, press the spacebar, tab to okay, press the spacebar to save
your changes close the Settings Center.

Now, I hope that you are not as confused as I am after typing all of this.
LOL Hope this has helped.

Take care.

also while using IE10.
Also while using the new F S 3.0, it says “documents”
It would seem like each time a page is reloaded or the focus changes, Jaws

this is driving me crazy...
Of course I do not have far to go...

Yes. Open the application you want to assign a voice to.
Press insert J to bring up the Jaws window. If you have Jaws set to run

Your first choice will be for the default speech profile. Tab one time and
it should announce the name of the application you have open.

Arrow down to the speech profile you want and then tab to OK.

sounding synthetic voice, unlike Samantha, who always sounds a little mad.
I wish that Ava was available for my iPhone. Overall though, for JAWS, I
still prefer plain old Eloquence. I have used it for 15 years or so, ever
sense they started packaging it with JAWS, and I have just gotten so use
to
it that it seems a little strange using anything else. The Eloquence
voice
itself sounds very robotic but I think that it does a better job at very
high speeds and the pronunciation is a little better than many of these
more
 natural sounding voices.

I agree, Eloquence is better at faster speeds. I have never truly liked the

Allison would be nice on the iPhone, although I have grown so used to

Is there a way to make one of the new voices temporary? My grandson is
having a big problem with French. He really can not see the book. The school

French he might be able to type in phrases. Similarly I always want to learn
a new language. There are too many people walking around speaking another
language. Would like to know if they are talking about me?

Hi Susie Q,

Follow the steps below but, in the steps below the, apostrophy, is
used as

the example. In your case insert quotes for apostrophy.

You can change how Jaws speaks the apostrophy in the Settings Centter
default all applications by doing the following:

1. Press Insert + 6, on the number row above the main keyboard to open
the

Settings Center, press, Control, shift, + D, to open default all
applications.
2. Arrow down to, Punctuation closed press right arrow to open.
3. Arrow down to customize punctuation press the spacebar to open.
Don't
press enter here, if you press enter instad of the spacebar, the
Settings

Center
will close.
4.A. When making changes in the customize punctuation list, if you do
not

want
Jaws to speak/recognize a particular punctuation mark you want to
choose the

all selection. You will have 4 radio buttons to arrow up or down
through. They are none, some, most, all. In these selections they
work
backwards than what you would think. For example; If you choose
none

for the dollar sign, Jaws will speak / recognize every dollar sign in
whatever you are reading. On the other hand, if you choose the all

radio button, Jaws will not speak / recognize any dollar signs.

4.B. After you pressed the spacebar on customize punctuation, you are
now in

a list of punctuation marks. Arrow down the list and when
you have the punctuation mark you want to change highlighted, tab 1
time to

the radio buttons that I mentioned earlier.
5. Keeping in mind what I mentioned earlier about these choices
working

backwards, select the box in this list, in your case not wanting any
apostrophy's spoken, choose the all button.
6. Now, if you want to make a change to another punctuation mark,
shift tab
back to the list and highlight a different punctuation mark, tab back
to the

radio buttons and select the box you prefer.
7. After you are done making your changes tab to okay and press the
spacebar.
8. Tab to apply, press the spacebar, tab to okay, press the spacebar
to save

your changes close the Settings Center.

Now, I hope that you are not as confused as I am after typing all of
this.

LOL Hope this has helped.

Take care.

I'm glad to see I am not alone on this one. My home machine is running
Windows 7 - 64 bit and what you describe is an issue when I am using Jaws
14. Using Jaws 15 everything is OK.

When I use the K to find place markers, the Cursor goes to the proper
location, but I hear No place markers. These bugs are not found by me in
Jaws 15 or Jaws 13, but only in Jaws 14.

On my work machine running Windows 7 - 32 bit, the problem is not found in
any version of Jaws. I imagine the developers will have some problems
squashing this one.
