[JAWS-Users] Problems Sorting E-mail
Hello, I'm using JAWS 15 with Windows 8 and Office 2010. Recently, I find that I cannot sort my E-mail in Outlook. I want to sort a particular folder by sender in order to find a set of E-mails. I go to view arrangement arrange by. When I press space or enter, nothing happens. This used to work and now it doesn't and I don't understand why. It is not a JAWS 15 issue because I tried it running JAWS 14 and got the same result. I'm sure that I'm missing something simple but I can't think of what it might be. It's 5:00am and I haven't had my coffee yet and that may be the problem. Anyway, for the moment, I'm stumped. If anyone can, please help. Hello List I discovered why the jfw15 jestures did not work. Narrator was also set to start when windows starts, so then I just turned off Narrator but then Jaws jestures did not work. When I set Narrator not to start everything is fine. The reason why I had narrator to start was in case jaws did not start propperly the first time after installation. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 15 beta
Hi there, It is my understanding that even though that application works well with Jaws, if you want to be rid of the nag messages, you will have to pay for it. Now maybe I'm not thinking straitht, but it seems a little silly to pay for an application to access a free service when we are already paying for a screen-reader, which with a little practice will get the job done. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 15 beta
I have been using GW connect for several years already because Skype is such a moving target. The only reason I took another look at Skype itself is because Eric mentioned updated support for the program. It does seem to be as advertised and I do need to review the hotkeys ETC but it was more manageable in the few minutes I had to mess around with it last evening. I will look at it again today some time. I try and review any and all updates in JAWS that pertain to me in order to give myself as complete a picture as possible. Skype itself has video support which is not a major deal but the last time I spoke to my brother he insisted I turn on my camera. Then he complained it wasn't in HD, some peoples' kids. I told him that he should already know what I look like since he only lives across town from here. I might go back to using Skype more often depending on some other factors, but without scripting support from JAWS it would be worthless for the most part. Quite sad if you think about it, just because an interface can be made all fancy why do all of that work to put out a free program. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 15 beta
Susie, I may not understand your situation correctly but I think that I may see your problem here. If you have gone into the settings center and changed the setting for quotation marks to none then it will read the quotation marks when you have punctuation verbosity set to none or anything more verbose than none. All of the other punctuation verbosity settings are more verbose than none so it will always read the quotation marks. Not sure if that made sense. Go in and change the setting for quotation marks to all and then, unless you have your punctuation verbosity set to all, it shouldn't read them. If this doesn't make enough sense, let me know and I'll try to explain better. Like that wireless adapter cutting out on me, it even had stated when internet explorer had stopped working, some window's mail issues too. - Original Message - From: David Whitehead davidwhitehead1...@cogeco.ca To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Thursday, September 12, 2013 9:02 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] the reliability monitor Applies to these editions of Windows 7 Home Premium Professional Ultimate Enterprise complementary information Reliability Monitor is an advanced tool that measures hardware and software problems and other changes to your computer. [JAWS-Users] Quotes, Stopping Jaws From Reading Them
Hi Susie Q, Follow the steps below but, in the steps below the, apostrophy, is used as the example. In your case insert quotes for apostrophy. You can change how Jaws speaks the apostrophy in the Settings Centter default all applications by doing the following: 1. Press Insert + 6, on the number row above the main keyboard to open the Settings Center, press, Control, shift, + D, to open default all applications. 2. Arrow down to, Punctuation closed press right arrow to open. 3. Arrow down to customize punctuation press the spacebar to open. Don't press enter here, if you press enter instad of the spacebar, the Settings Center will close. 4.A. When making changes in the customize punctuation list, if you do not want Jaws to speak/recognize a particular punctuation mark you want to choose the all selection. You will have 4 radio buttons to arrow up or down through. They are none, some, most, all. In these selections they work backwards than what you would think. For example; If you choose none for the dollar sign, Jaws will speak / recognize every dollar sign in whatever you are reading. On the other hand, if you choose the all radio button, Jaws will not speak / recognize any dollar signs. 4.B. After you pressed the spacebar on customize punctuation, you are now in a list of punctuation marks. Arrow down the list and when you have the punctuation mark you want to change highlighted, tab 1 time to the radio buttons that I mentioned earlier. 5. Keeping in mind what I mentioned earlier about these choices working backwards, select the box in this list, in your case not wanting any apostrophy's spoken, choose the all button. 6. Now, if you want to make a change to another punctuation mark, shift tab back to the list and highlight a different punctuation mark, tab back to the radio buttons and select the box you prefer. 7. After you are done making your changes tab to okay and press the spacebar. 8. Tab to apply, press the spacebar, tab to okay, press the spacebar to save your changes close the Settings Center. Now, I hope that you are not as confused as I am after typing all of this. LOL Hope this has helped. Take care. Mike This email was sent from my, iBarstool. Re: [JAWS-Users] Quotes, Stopping Jaws From Reading Them
orry Mike the fix did not work, it still reads them, some times it does not, but some times it does. Well, I will keep trying! Sue -Original Message- From: Mike B. Sent: Thursday, September 12, 2013 12:07 PM To: Jaws-Users List Subject: [JAWS-Users] Quotes, Stopping Jaws From Reading Them Hi Susie Q, Follow the steps below but, in the steps below the, apostrophy, is used as the example. Re: [JAWS-Users] vocalizer assigned to applications?
Yes. Open the application you want to assign a voice to. Press insert J to bring up the Jaws window. If you have Jaws set to run from the system tray then press enter on options, otherwise press an alt O, and then type the letter v for voices and then down arrow to select a voice profile and press enter. Your first choice will be for the default speech profile. Tab one time and it should announce the name of the application you have open. Arrow down to the speech profile you want and then tab to OK. * Have questions about that IPhone, IPad or IPod Touch? Sent: Thursday, September 12, 2013 12:07 PM To: Jaws-Users List Subject: [JAWS-Users] Quotes, Stopping Jaws From Reading Them Hi Susie Q, Follow the steps below but, in the steps below the, apostrophy, is used as the example. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 15 saying documents every time a page gets focus
I'm glad to see I am not alone on this one. My home machine is running Windows 7 - 64 bit and what you describe is an issue when I am using Jaws 14. Using Jaws 15 everything is OK. When I use the K to find place markers, the Cursor goes to the proper location, but I hear No place markers. These bugs are not found by me in Jaws 15 or Jaws 13, but only in Jaws 14. On my work machine running Windows 7 - 32 bit, the problem is not found in any version of Jaws. I imagine the developers will have some problems squashing this one.
