Re: [JAWS-Users] need help uninstalling a program
Hi Kevin, You can get the Revo Uninstaller at: www.ninite.com Here are some basic steps on how to use the program: It probably isn't the most intuitive program ever made, but in a normal situation it's like a wizzard process. 1. find the program you want to uninstall in a list of programs that first comes up when you start the program. You need to use first letter navigation to do this or, use your arrow keys because I haven't found a way to put all the programs into list view. 2. With the program highlighted that you want to remove, open the context menu and press enter on uninstall. You will get a dialogue asking if you're sure you want to remove this program, tab to the yes option press the spacebar. 3. Now it's time to choose the level at which revo uninstaller does its job. So, Shift + tab, into the options list. you have 4 modes Built-in, Safe, Moderate, Advanced. I always choose advanced because some programs love to leave registry entries and little traces of themselves everywhere. These are radio buttons, so just choose the appropriate one. 4. Hit the next button and Revo will go to work and uninstall your program, so sit back for a minute or two. 5. This is when the fun really starts. After you hit the next button, Revo will display a number of left over files and registry entries from the program.hit the tab key and you should find a select all button, and a delete button. so first hit select all, followed by delete. You'll get a warning asking if you really want to do this? Answer yes. It'll then delete any files left over. Now depending on how the program is, it may next ask you to delete registry entries, this is the same as left over files. Don't worry, this is safe to do because it only deletes the registry entries that are for the application you're uninstalling, it won't delete anything else but that. So do the select all and delete thing again and answer yes. Sometimes, you might even see a screen that just has a tree view, but it has nothing displayed. In that case just do what you would normally do and hit select all and delete and that'll do it. After all that is done revo will display a dialogue with a finish button. Hit that, and you're done. you can then delete another program or close the program it's up to you. Sometimes you need to use the, Insert + F10, keystroke to open the Jaws task list find the Revo remove option press enter because you'll have landed on a blank window so you need to bring Revo back into focus. I hope this helps explain things a bit better. Take care. I don't know of an anti virus software that will allow you to download their virus definitions, then manually install them. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 16, STRANGE E-MAIL ISSUE
Hi In JAWS 14 and 15, when I would delete all of the messages in a folder at once, JAWS would speak the sender and subject of one of the messages that was no longer there. Instead of leaving and returning to the folder, I would press JAWSkey+pagedown which will speak the number of items in the folder and if there are any, how many are unread. Re: [JAWS-Users] need help uninstalling a program
I agree that Revo Uninstaller does a better job of removing all the pieces, especially if you change the filter level from moderate (the default) up to the thorough level, which is the highest of the three. A tech friend of mine found this program removed pieces that he had not been able to remove with the standard Windows uninstaller, and it fixed the sluggish performance problem he was having. I have used Revo Uninstaller for a number of years, and always with good effects. Re: [JAWS-Users] Reading guitar tabs with Jaws
This all sounds very interesting. I am a professional musician and vocalist, but I play piano. Is there any software out there compatible with JAWS, apart from the Lime Aloud software, enabling music composition? Also, are there any apps or website which would allow for reading piano charts? I play mostly by ear but with certain songs such as the old jazz standards, charts are often a great help. I would also like to be able to be able to read and write lead sheets, and to be able to use a musical keyboard as a composition tool, connected to a PC, using JAWS. Is this possible? If not, is it something which FS might look at? Lime Aloud is not as user-friendly as Sibelius was nor as friendly as some of the other musical programs I've heard of. Thanks. Here I thought it would be a straight forward process. Little did I know...I use YouTube a lot and have found it to be an overall great resource to learn a new song or rifs and other tricks, but the problem with it is that often the quality of the instruction is entirely dependant on the person describing what they are doing. I've found some people who are really good at detailing what their fingers are doing and the chord progression, but it's still too hit and miss. That and if you want to learn the finger picking and other accompaniments and not just the chords, then it's even harder. There's an ultimate guitar app for iOS that some blind folks have talked about, but I guess accessibility was broken with an update. Seems accessible enough to me, but again, Voiceover just reads E---c-But0 etc. So I don't know what they're doing to be able to decipher what VO is saying. I'm still getting used to the termonology from Spanish to English. C=do, re=Do G=Sol and so on so it's that much more awkward too. I did hear of one recourse called Talking Tabs discussed on another mailing list, but their site: www.talking tabs.com gbrings up a service unavailable page so who knows what happened there. I also found something called LunarTabsPro: https://code.google.com/p/lunartabspro/ Looks to be some sort of project to make electric guitar tabs accessible, but they specifically mention that Jaws may or may not work with it and recommend using NVDA. I'm not all keen on diving down the rabbit hole of learning another screen reader just for this. Maybe in the future when I have more time, but that's not necessarily a priority right now. Anyway...I too would be interested in any information or resources that would make guitar tab reading accessible with Jaws. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike Boyd Sent: Friday, January 02, 2015 9:07 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Reading guitar tabs with Jaws Hi Cristóbal, I have been playing guitar for over 35 years now, and used tabs quite abit before losing my sight, but since then, I have found nothing to make the reading of it easy. That is not to say that there is nothing available, I just haven't found it from the searching that I have done. I am fully capable of playing by ear and improvising where I need to, so not having the tabs has not hurt me that much. I usually used this to learn tricky parts in songs which were confusing. Tabs are one of the best inovations in the world of stringed instruments to have come along in probably centuries. If you do find a resource, please post it for all to s ee. I've always played by ear or memorization, but figured I'd finally learn tabs. Doing so however seems a bit challenging with Jaws. I'm sure it in part has to do with my lack of familiarity with tabs in general, but with all the E's, b's, g's and dashes and so on, it sounds like Jaws is just reading a bunch of gibberish. Can anyone recommend a better method or tips on how to decipher these hieroglyphics with JFW. My guitar learning was all done in Spanish. So I'm also trying to get used to the notes in English. Re: [JAWS-Users] need help uninstalling a program
Just a note on uninstalling programs, even though it is usually done from a Windows applet, many times the uninstaller being used is one supplied by the software developer. Sometimes you can find an uninstall option in the folder the program places on the start menu. Having said that, many programs do a poor job of cleaning up after themselves, and this is where a good third-party un-installer comes in handy. I am wondering if this program does a better job than just the standard Windows UnInstaller? I'm not sure windows does as complete a job as this describes. What is your experience? Best, Alan On Jan 4, 2015, at 09:34, Mike B. mb69ma...@charter.net wrote: Hi Kevin, You can get the Revo Uninstaller at: www.ninite.com Here are some basic steps on how to use the program: It probably isn't the most intuitive program ever made, but in a normal situation it's like a wizzard process. 1. find the program you want to uninstall in a list of programs that first comes up when you start the program. Take care. If it is not there, tab down to the edit box and type in the location string to where the .exe file resides, something like c:\program files (x86)\iobit\iobit...exe, and then tab to the OK or Uninstall button and press enter on it. [JAWS-Users] Jaws not reading the close window icon
Hi list, I have just rejoined this list. So are looking forward to improving my skills in using Jaws(even though I am a long time user of it smile). I have been having several issues with Jaws since version 15. For example, I am currently using Jaws 16 on a Windows7 home premium on a desktop computer. Starting with Jaws15, I have noticed that Jaws will no longer speak to me the close icon at the top of any programs or windows. I have confirmed with family members that the icon is in fact showing. I have spoken to my local Freedom Scientific distributor. But they just said. If it is there, than Jaws will read it. But like I said, family members confirm that they can see it and click on it. I do realize, that I can use the alt F4 command to close a program or window. But I find that alt F4 does not always close properly. So I like to be able to route Jaws to the PC cursor and then left click on the close icon. Has anybody else experienced this? Thanks Jason For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
