Keith,

Don't take my particular post as discouragement. I'm always torn between 
wanting to do things myself and wanting to get so much accomplished that I need 
to delegate, hence my resorting to a paid service to set up my website. Joy 
figured out a way of doing it herself, so I'd consider following up with her. I 
also know from my own research that other blind people have set up blogs. If 
I'd done that research recently, I'd pass it along. Tomorrow I might try to 
locate it. If I succeed, I'll post something.

[JAWS-Users] Space Marker Announcement Problem In Word File Solved

Hello, everyone.

 

I just wanted to report that my problem of Jaws continually saying "space
marker" after every word in a Word 2016 document has been solved.

 

My wife and I had been working on a document earlier, and we had activated
the "show all" button in the paragraph sub-menu to check out some formatting
issues, and simply forgot to turn it off.

Absolutely. For some reason, I had ridiculous problems getting that message 
into shape. But yes, after pressing insert-spacebar, then press the letter m as 
in Mary.

Somehow the three steps got combined into a single paragraph. I'll break them 
down and add explanation.

You need to establish the beginning of the text you wish to select, then mark 
the end point, then select.

1. To mark the beginning, create a temporary placemarker with control+ Windows 
key+k

2. Move the cursor  to the end point of the text you wish to select.

3. to select, press insert+ spacebar.

[JAWS-Users] How To Stop Jaws From Saying "space marker" after every word in a Word Document

Hello, everyone.

 

I have just begun to experience a very anoying problem when using Jaws 18
here with Word 2016.

 

For some reason, whenever I try to read a word document, jaws says "space
marker" after every word in the document.

 

Obviously, this makes any document virtually unreadable.

 

Can someone tell me how to correct this situation?

[JAWS-Users] Making JAWS settings of a PowerPoint file as the default PowerPoint JAWS settings

Hello gang. Using Win10, Office 2013 and latest dot release version of JAWS18. 
I've one PowerPoint file whose JAWS related settings are what I like. I don't 
recall the changes/adjustments I made to the speech/sound settings, the 
verbosity settings etdetc on this file. However starting a new PowerPoint file 
does not deliver the same info using standard JAWS keystrokes such as 'insert 
F' for example to find out whether the highlighted text is bold or regular etc. 
Is there a way to apply whatever JAWS settings are working on this one good 
PowerPoint file as the default settings for PowerPoint which would apply to all 
current and future PowerPoint files I may create or receive from others?

Make sure you let FS know how important it is to you.  There may be nothing
they can do if the problem is with the source of the info, but if they know

To each their own.  I used the weather Research It feature daily since it
became available.  The temperature updated more frequently, so in summer if
I needed to go somewhere at 4 in the afternoon it was easy to see if it was
still 115 degrees, sunny, cloudy, possible storm.  Each morning I used it to
check the morning temperature before leaving home and the forecast for the
day to determine if I needed a jacket, to dress in warmer or cooler
clothing.  

I seldom use other features of that program but weather I used daily for
years.  

I can go elsewhere, of course but this loaded fast and was accurate for a
daily forecast, have seldom been interested in hourly forecasts unless there
is a major storm and I know how to find them if I want them.  

Just my take on the issue.

I just now opened Google and typed the search term, "tomorrow's weather
forecast." I could have said today's, or Wednesday's, or whatever. The first
result doesn't help because the site uses bots, as google alerts me right
away. The second result is for the Weather Channel, an IBM company. For my
region, it gives an hour-by-hour weather report in a table form that is
easily navigated using JAWS table commands. I'm impressed. 

If I were to jump on my soap box now, I'd ask why anyone would rely on the
often broken Research It when google is so dependable. But that would be
annoying, wouldn't it?

And, as far as I can tell, they don't carry NWR streams any longer.

I am not sure if it's me, but it seems harder and harder to get NOAA Weather
Radio streaming broadcasts any more.

If anyone has a suggestion as to where I can find them, please let me know.

So useing the laptop keyboard layout in Jaws is an advantage, not a drawback.
Again for this lesson I will call the capslock key the Jaws key and the numpad 
insert key, the insert key.
For example: using the laptop keyboard layout, For some Jaws keystrokes you 
must use the Capslock+Shift+Control, plus a key on the keyboard to do them.
For Example, in the laptop keyboard layout, If you are running Jaws from the 
system trey, pressing capslock+Shift+Control+J, Brings up the JAWS options menu 
window, with the options sub menu highlighted for you.
You can also press Numpad Insert+J, in the desktop keyboard layout to bring up 
the JAWS options menu window.
Another example, using the laptop keyboard layout, Pressing 
Capslock+Shift+Control+H, Places JAWS Hot Keys in the Virtual Viewer.
You can review them with the Arrow keys, and press the Escape key to close this 
window.
Using the desktop keyboard layout, pressing the numpad Insert+H, Places JAWS 
Hot Keys in the Virtual Viewer.
In the below lesson I will list the Insert key keystroke, followed by the 
Laptop keyboard layout Capslock key keystroke.
I personally use the Jaws laptop keyboard layout, that way I can choose what 
keyboard keystroke combonations, works best for using both my hands.
So it's very nice to have another Jaws modifier key, to use when pressing Jaws 
keystrokes involving the pressing of many keys on the keyboard.
**Now let us look at how to use Jaws layered keystrokes, Insert+Spacebar, or 
Capslock+Spacebar, followed by a letter.
This means when you press Insert+Spacebar, or Capslock+Spacebar, you will hear 
a ding sound, you then can press a certain letter or key to open one of the 
many options for the Jaws layered keystrokes.
For example: Pressing Insert+Spacebar, or Capslock+Spacebar, followed by the ? 
Question mark, you will hear:
Search commands press J.
Repeat last background notification from Skype press Shift+R.
Show recent speech history press H.
Clear recent speech history press Shift+H.
View text on clipboard press C.
Select text between marked place and current position press M.
Customize web page with Flexible Web press X.
ResearchIt press R.
OCR Feature Layer press O.
Table Navigation Layer press T.
Switch to your recent Windows Live Messages press Number row 1 through 5.
Text Analyzer press A.
Mute Synthesizer press S.
Lock Keyboard press L.
Toggle audio ducking press D.
So let us look at most of these layered keystrokes one at a time.
**Pressing either the Numpad Insert+Spacebar, or the Capslock Jaws 
key+Spacebar, followed by the letter J, opens the search for Jaws commands 
window.
For example, after pressing Insert+Spacebar, or Capslock+Spacebar, followed by 
J, You are in a Jaws search for commands edit box, type the word copy, press 
the tab key, you are put in a Jaws HTML page of results.
You can use the Arrow keys or H, for heading or Insert+F7, for a Links list, 
press the Escape key to close this window.
Below is an example of what comes up, when you type the word copy in to the 
Jaws search for commands edit box, and press the Tab key, I have shortened the 
results.
*Copy Selected Text To Clipboard. Control + C
Standard Windows copy command, usually found in the Edit menu, any selected 
text or items will be copied to the Windows Clipboard. The selected items or 
text can then be pasted into another window or application.
*View Clipboard Text. press Insert+Spacebar, or Capslock+Spacebar, followed by 
the letter C.
The Clipboard Text Viewer displays all text that has been copied to the Windows 
Clipboard using the standard Windows Copy and Cut commands.
*Virtualize Window. Alt + Insert + W or Capslock+ALT+W.
This keystroke displays the text in the current window in the Virtual Viewer. 
You can then select the text and copy and paste it to another application, such 
as an e-mail message. This is especially useful in error dialog boxes.
*Select Text Between Marked Place And Current Position. Insert+Spacebar, or

To each their own.  I used the weather Research It feature daily since it 
became available.  The temperature updated more frequently, so in summer if I 
needed to go somewhere at 4 in the afternoon it was easy to see if it was still 
115 degrees, sunny, cloudy, possible storm.  Each morning I used it to check 
the morning temperature before leaving home and the forecast for the day to 
determine if I needed a jacket, to dress in warmer or cooler clothing.  

I seldom use other features of that program but weather I used daily for years. 
 

I can go elsewhere, of course but this loaded fast and was accurate for a daily 
forecast, have seldom been interested in hourly forecasts unless there is a 
major storm and I know how to find them if I want them.  

Just my take on the issue.

I just now opened Google and typed the search term, "tomorrow's weather 
forecast." I could have said today's, or Wednesday's, or whatever. The first 
result doesn't help because the site uses bots, as google alerts me right away. 
The second result is for the Weather Channel, an IBM company. For my region, it 
gives an hour-by-hour weather report in a table form that is easily navigated 
using JAWS table commands. I'm impressed. 

If I were to jump on my soap box now, I'd ask why anyone would rely on the 
often broken Research It when google is so dependable. But that would be 
annoying, wouldn't it?

I am not sure if it's me, but it seems harder and harder to get NOAA Weather 
Radio streaming broadcasts any more.

Somehow the three steps got combined into a single paragraph. I'll break them 
down and add explanation.

You need to establish the beginning of the text you wish to select, then mark 
the end point, then select.

1. To mark the beginning, create a temporary placemarker with control+ Windows 
key+k 

2. Move the cursor  to the end point of the text you wish to select.

3. to select, press insert+ spacebar.
