Hi Wayne,

Here are some steps for 7-Zip:

To unzip files:

1. Highlight the file or files you want to unzip. They can be both, .ZIP or
.RAR files or, just 1 or the other. This program has the ability to unzip
both types at the same time.

2. Press the applications / context menu key.
3. Press, the #7 on the number row above the main keyboard or, arrow down to
7Zip & press enter. The first time you use the program you might want to
arrow down the list to see what options the program has to offer.
4. I arrow down to, extract here, & press enter all the time. I do this
because I have a certain folder that all my downloads go into, & I extract
all the files into the same folder.

To compress files:

1. Highlight the file you would like to compress / archive / zip up.
2. Press the applications / context menu key.
3. Press the #7 on the number row above the main keyboard.
4. Arrow down to, Add to "Name of File7z", & press enter.

Another way to compress:

1. Highlight the file you would like to compress / archive / zip up.
2. Press the applications / context menu key.
3. Press the #7 on the number row above the main keyboard.
4. Press enter on, Add to archive...
5. Tab to Archive format, arrow up or down to select your choice of
compression method.
6. Tab to, compression level, arrow up or down to choose your compression
level.
7. Tab to, compression method, arrow up or down to choose your compression
method.
8. Keep tabbing through to check out the many other options you have in this
program. When you are through, press spacebar or enter on okay to start the
/ zipping compression process.

 Other Steps:

You don't use 7Zip to open the, .RAR file. You use it to extract the stuff
that is inside the., .RAR file. Try the steps below.
1. Highlight but, do not open, the .RAR file that you are wanting to extract
the files from.
2. Press your applications / context menu key.
3. Arrow down to 7Zip and press enter.
4. With 7Zip open, arrow up or down through the options & press enter on the
option of choice. You might also be able to access the 7Zip options by
pressing Alt + F, for the file menu and arrowing down through this list. I
usually use the, extract here, option.
5. Tab through the dialog boxes & press the spacebar / enter keys
accordingly. I can't be more explanatory about the use of 7Zip because I
don't have a, .RAR file to play with.

Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Power Shell vs Command Prompt

2017-06-22 Thread Audiobookfan
Thanks for the response. So, I gather it's accessible with JAWS. Will it
still run programs like the Command Prompt does? Specifically, If I want
to turn off hibernation, I was instructed to run the following command
in the Command Prompt:

powercfg.exe /hibernation off

When I upgraded to Windows 10 Creators edition, it substituted Power
Shell for Command Prompt in the windows-x menu and I'm wondering if I
can just use the Power Shell for that or if I need to switch back to
Command Prompt.

Thanks,

You might need to configure 7zip so that it is available in your file
context menus. This is usually something a programme tries to set when you
install it, and there is probably a way to do this directly from Windows as

The folder was from a website that has an entire library but it seems that

PowerShell is newer and much more capable. It is definitely accessible with
JAWS. I've set it as the default.

Command Prompt is much older (similar to the old DOS shell). It isn't a

Hi Justin!
Type the URL:
m.facebook.com
You will be on the mobile site of Facebook, by far the easiest to use. Make
sure you use IE 11. Other browsers do not render the mobile site quite right,
and it is confusing. Just press e, for edit, and go into forms mode. You are in
the search field. Just type a friend’s name and press enter. Press H for
heading, and arrow down to the choices. Sometimes, there are some choices that
is not your friend that has the same name. You will know which one is your
friend, because it will not say add friend. That is the one you enter on!
Hope that helps!

Probably the most comprehensive guides on using JAWS with Word are written
by CathyAnne Murtha. I'm not sure if she still has guides going back to Word
2010 and 2007, but you could Google to find out. There will be a charge.
Keep in mind that most commands are Microsoft's, but JAWS does add other

Print View is the supposedly recommended view for Word, so you can try the

2. Right arrow until you find the choice for print layout, and if it is not
checked then press the enter key to check it
3. Press the, F6 key, until you're back in the main document.

2017-06-22 Thread Mike B.
Hi Jerry,

If you press, Insert / Jaws + Page Down, this keystroke should give you the
information you want, if your status bar is configured to do so. Below are
steps on how to customize your status bar.

To show number of lines, line number, or many other options in the status
bar in Word try the following:
1. Press F6 until Status bar is highlighted. Or, until you hear Jaws
report, Status Toolbar. It should be the 1st or 2nd press of the F6 key.
2. Press Shift + F10 to show options. This keystroke must be used because a
right mouse click or pressing the application key will not.
3. Down arrow through the available options, and when you have found line
count or something else of interest press the spacebar to check or uncheck
the item.
4. when done making modifications simply press AltF4 or escape key.
5. Review your status line to insure the settings have been properly
modified.

Joseph the free tech guy!

Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Vipre Has not been 100% accessible with jaws like Norton, so you have to know,
what antivirus you're buying, by reading many posts from members. I run MS
Defender/antivirus plus AVG Pro, do you think Windows Eyes can handle that?

Thanks for all of the help. I am in need of finding a tutorial on zipping
and unzipping files. I did manage to unzip it with some help but the files
inside are numbered rather than titled-a big problem and when I click on one
of the numbers it seems to go to the internet rather than opening as a text
document. Too much for this old fellow but I'll keep plugging away. Time
to zip it.

You might need to configure 7zip so that it is available in your file
context menus. This is usually something a programme tries to set when you
install it, and there is probably a way to do this directly from Windows as
well (I can look into it later if you want). If you already had winrar set
to do this though, or installed winrar afterwards, that will probably be in
your context menus rather than 7zip. BTW the Winrar trial message can be
safely ignored. The programme still works fine. Although it's a very good
programme and I'm not necessarily averse to paying the $20, I can understand
why you might not want to. The shell option to extract with the programme
should still be there in your context menus though. If not however, 7zip
will work, as others are saying.

Hi,

My best guess is that you cannot create a custom label while using the touch
cursor. In fact, I just tried pressing JAWS Key+Control+Tab while using the
touch cursor and while focus was on a button and was told I could not create
a custom label for the button, but when I located the same button when not
using the touch cursor, everything worked as it should.

Good morning all! I am a brand new member to this list, and I have a
question regarding the use of the touch cursor.

On a web-site that I use, I am encountering buttons that do not have labels.
When I activate them using the touch cursor, they perform certain functions
consistently, such as activating the save file option. I am then presented
with the standard save as dialog box. My question is this. Can I assign a
label to this button? It is not found by either the JAWS or PC cursor.
When pressing Insert plus F2, I am not seeing the option to label a button.
Any help would be appreciated. Glad to be part of this list!
