How do you install process explorer and get control shift escape to work to bring it up? -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of JM Casey Sent: Tuesday, January 16, 2018 7:06 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Task Manager in Windows 10 is really slow when JAWS is running Hm. I'm not sure. I didn't use Windows 7 much, admittedly. I don't really remember how the native task manager is different, except the Windows 10 one is supposedly more sophisticated, and, well, a bit more like Process Explorer. However, PE still runs about ten times faster than Task manager on my windows 10 machine. So I just opened up process explorer for the first time in a while, and despite being quite a bit more detailed, it's a lot faster. I also forgot that all these utilities are now owned by microsoft, which probably explains why it's so easy to make it your new task manager. It also should reassure anyone who might feel weird about replacing a core windows component with something else. Your ctrl-shift-escape key short-cut will still work, too. I strongly suggest downloading this and using it instead. I tested the "replace task manager option on my Windows 10 machine and it works perfectly. Be aware that there is a 64 and a 32 bit version of process explorer. The 32 bit version will not show 64 bit applications, though I have had the 64 bit version crash a few times on my machine -- seems to be working well now though. The subject pretty much explains it all. JAWS takes several seconds to announce names and details of processes as I arrow through them, or use the tab key to move between the different columns. I estimate that between a key press and JAWS actually saying something, the wait is often as much as five seconds. This annoys me a lot, because task manager is supposed to be a quick and easy way to end/start/manipulate processes. I've thought of swapping out the native Windows task manager for Process Explorer. But that programme has a lot more detail and fine tuning options than Microsoft's Task Manager, and more animated graphics, so I'm not really sure that would improve the situation. I know this has to do with JAWS, because when my sighted partner uses TM, it's as quick as can be. It does seem more responsive using NVDA, but I'm wondering if there's any way I can improve the situation re/using JFW. I'm using JAWS 18, and have W10 1709. Thanks. [JAWS-Users] Unable to authorize Jaws 2018 after acquiring a laptop computer
Hi. All is well now. I spoke with Sarah from Vfo tech support. She sent me the authorization code via e-mail, however, she read the code to me and I entered it on the laptop pc. There are still a few quirky things going on with the latst installation, but I have a feeling they can be resolved. Thanks to those who provided suggestions. Mike M. I used to be able to pause recordings on the VLC Player by pressing the spacebar. Now I can pause only by going into the menus. Same with other functions. Any idea why the shortcuts aren't working for me and how I can bring them back? Re: [JAWS-Users] Malwarebytes updates
Hey Mike, I entered on your link and it took me there and then it asked if I wanted to open or save the file. Usually I use either a tab to get to open or Control N but neither worked. Can you give me a clue? Wayne -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike B. I don't know about Jaws 15, but Jaws 16 works okay with this latest version, but then again Jaws 17 will work much better. This newer version requires a lot of tabbing, but install it & try to get a feel for it, then we'll see what you need help with. https://www.dropbox.com/s/zvfty1xmbdihxfb/mb3-setup-consumer-3.3.1.2183-1.0. 262-1.0.3374.zip?dl=1 - Original Message - From: wayne smith To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Monday, January 15, 2018 4:35 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Malwarebytes updates Hello folks, I have been using the Malwarebytes program for a long time. I did not update to the latest version because people on this list said it was much less accessible than in the past. Now when I try to open Malwarebytes there is an audio tone and then silence and Jaws 15 goes dead. I went to Ninyt to update it but the same thing happened, it started to download and then I got the tone and then nothing. There was no message like "Do you want to permit this..." Are any of you using Malwarebytes with Windows 7 and JAWS 15 or 17? Re: [JAWS-Users] VLC Player, how to invoke shortcuts
I imagine it is time to update the version on the server since in fact I have no idea at all just how far out of date it is at the moment, thanks Mike. -Original Message- From: Mike B. Below is a Dropbox download link for the installer I used, it's 64 bit: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6pi53byrzdi3fm3/vlc-2.2.8-win64.zip?dl=1 Let me know how it works. Take care. Mike. Mike, FYI, my system won't allow me to update beyond VLC 2.6, presumably because I still have Windows 7. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of el...@comcast.net Sent: Monday, January 15, 2018 7:16 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] VLC Player, how to invoke shortcuts Mike and Adrian Mike got it for me, maximize that file. Also, have you updated VLC lately? I wouldn't think updating would be it, but the latest version is, vlc-2.2.8. Is the file you're playing maximized? Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool. Re: [JAWS-Users] thunderbird
Leonard nailed it. Here's a wrinkle. Just hitting enter defaults each addressee as a "to". If you want an addressee to be a cc or a bcc just shift tab from the address line and arrow to the one you want. I usually just enter down until I'm finished with addressees but sometimes I want a bcc to keep the addressee hidden from the others. Bureaucratic tricks!
