Hi Eric, That is awesome. Did you think on adding connection to neural networks to describe graphic content with no alt text similarly to which Windows 10 Narrator offers in Microsoft Edge? Re: [JAWS-Users] OCR on text in photos
Yes, FS could add something similar as the feature on Windows 10 Narrator. At least when used in Microsoft Edge, Windows 10 Narrator can send a picture with no meaningful alternative text to Microsoft in order to get the description (and perhaps text) based on a neural network, that is, artificial intelligence. Facebook already gives general descriptions of many common photo scenes, but it is still unable to make OCR. By the way, the only it can tell you is “Picture may cointain: text.” Currently, the best way to make JAWS to OCR over a photo is to download it and use the Recognize with JAWS option in the file's context menu. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Maria Campbell Sent: Friday, January 26, 2018 2:51 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] OCR on text in photos When is VFO going to make available the ability to read text on photos, such as the ones in Facebook? PDF forms do, I think, need some kind of adjustment from the developer of these forms in order to be accessible. I'm not too clear on what that is. Do you have Adobe reader? There is an option there to set which prevents pdf files from opening in a browser. Last I checked, even though Windows "prefers" if you set all associations within itself, this still plays nicely with Windows 10. Also go to your default file associations and check to see what you have said for .pdf files. I personally use a programme called qRead to open text pdf files most of the time, now. It's really fast and doesn't take an age to deal with long documents that I just want to read. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Judy Jones Sent: January 26, 2018 1:35 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Attachments that open in Edge. Hello, I think I may have posted this awhile back, but I have received attachments that, by default, want to open in Edge; I want them to open in my default browser. Is there a way of preventing Edge from taking over? I have Internet Explorer set as my default browser, yet the pdf attachment wants to open in Edge. The only work-around I have found is to save the attachment and open it that way. Thanks in advance for any ideas. Re: [JAWS-Users] OCR on text in photos
It can sometimes. But the results are variable. I suspect most of these photos are of too low quality to really decipher text. Usually I get some garbage characters, at least, whereas a person's eyes and brain are more able to make them out. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Maria Campbell Sent: January 26, 2018 12:51 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] OCR on text in photos When is VFO going to make available the ability to read text on photos, such as the ones in Facebook? Yes, all that makes sense; figured it was something like that. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Fernando Gregoire Sent: January 26, 2018 2:59 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Mysterious folder appeared Hi people, Feedback Hub is a Microsoft application which members of the Windows Insider Program (and perhaps regular users, although they're not the intended audience) use to send suggestions and problem reports to Microsoft. Unlike when we choose to add or upvote (something similar as Facebook's Like) a suggestion, when we add or upvote a problem report, Microsoft logs and sends system diagnostic information related to the specific category and sub-category of the report. If before sending a report you check the checkbox to keep a local copy of these logged diagnostic data, resulting files will be in the Feedback Hub folder inside Documents. By default this checkbox is unchecked, so that data is deleted just after the report was sent and you'll find the folder is empty. If you aren't interested in reviewing your logs related to a problem report, you can delete contents of this folder with no errors. If the diagnostics infrastructure ever need to collect data to send to Microsoft, folder will be created again automatically.
