Hey!

I Also am using The latest version of Windows 10 with the latest version of
JAWS 2018. This logon problem has been with me right from my first
installation of Windows 10.
I have discussed this problem with FS Support on more than 1 occasion.

Again, I had a chat with JAWS support about the logon problem 2 days ago.
He told me that is my particular machine that is having the problem. He
said that it is not wide-spread. He told me to contact the Microsoft
Accessibility Help Desk. I haven't had time to contact them yet.

The problem for me is really hit and miss. Most of the time I don't hear
anything when my machine boots up. Some times JAWS starts and tells me the
focus has been lost. Some times, the Windows sound is heard. Most of the
time it is not.

When I am stuck, I will hit Insert+F4 to unload JAWS, press Escape to cancel
it, hit Alt+Tab, hit Enter, go into Touch Cursor mode, find the Password
field, type my password, find the Sign-in button and press enter. Rather a
long process just to logon.

Hi folks! This issue is an oldy but a goody, and one that hasn't been fixed
for me yet.

I have two windows 10 computers, and many times JAWS will not say anything
at the log-on screen indicating that I can type the password. Sometimes I
can press Control plus Alt plus Delete, and here the prompt to type my
password. Sometimes, I have to load narrator to find where to put in the
password. The behavior is inconsistent at best.

I wanted to post this to the list, and see if there is anything I can do to
make JAWS work better in this situation. Is there a setting that I need to
check, either in Windows or in JAWS? Any help would be appreciated.

I believe that the primary issue is that documents vary widely in their
accessibility. Do you know what program the documents were created in? It is
quite likely that the tool has features to make accessible documents; it's
just that they are probably not being used.

Hey. I'm looking into this software, and it seems useful and has a lot of
recommendations for its excellent OCR. It's also not too expensive in
comparison to some others I have seen. Does anyone here use it? Someone
commented that the latest version, 14, is not as accessible as version 12
was. Can anyone on the list confirm this and describe issues? Unfortunately,
the company does not seem to provide older versions on their site.

So if I do a control F, then type in a word or phrase I know is in a PDF

Hi, When you are at the Desk Top, arrow to the Jaws you want to have come up
with your hotkey, Press Alt plus Enter, Tab until you hear it say, "Shortcut
none", The Alt and Control are already assumed, so all you type here is the
letter j, if that's what you want with the Control and Alt for your Jaws hotkey.

I don't remember the rest exactly, but you will need to continue tabbing and
the choices will make sense. You will end with the OK key and that will be the
end of it.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

JAWS itself has a keyboard shortcut which creates a memory dump in case you
wish to send the error report to Freedom Scientific or contact Technical
Support, kills all JAWS-related processes and then relaunches it.
For cases in which this command doesn't work, I made a .cmd file that forces
killing of all JAWS processes and then run a certain specified JAWS version.
To do this, create a text file with the following content and save it with
extension .bat or .cmd:

taskkill /im jfw* /f
taskkill /im fs* /f
start /b JAWSnn
pause

In the Start command, nn is the JAWS version number as you would enter into the
Run dialog, for example 17 or 18.
You can save this file anywhere, then create a shortcut to this file in your
Desktop and assign it a hotkey in its properties.

This type of file lets you run a series of commands as if you enter each
command into a Command Prompt window and then press ENTER.
The /f parameter in the Taskkill command is the same as ending a process
directly from Task Manager's Processes (Windows 7 or earlier) or Details
(Windows 8 and newer) tab. If this parameter is not included, it is the same as
closing the program windows or using the End Task button, that is, send a
message for the program to close and wait to save data or any other operation
the program usually do when closed.
The * in names is to include multiple processes into a single command.
The Start command, with the /b parameter, allows to launch something by
specifying the string you would type in the Run (WINDOWS+R) dialog, in this
case the JAWS version of interest.
Finally, the Pause command, although not required, prevents the Command Prompt
window from being closed, displaying a “Press any key to continue”
message instead. This is useful to see the otput, for example, in case the file
is not working properly.

Hope it helps!

Hi,

If you added the hotkey to the JAWS shortcut, this is prety simple:
In your Desktop, find the JAWS shortcut. Press ALT+ENTER to open properties
and, in the Shortcut tab, go to the Shortcut key and press the hotkey you
want.

Re: [JAWS-Users] creating shortcut for restarting jaws

2017-09-25 Thread Παναγιωτης Αντωνοπουλος
Hi Fernando,
Many thanks for your reply. This was not what I needed, I wanted something much
simpler, that is, going to properties and general you somewhw find a shortcuts
option, which you enter and usually there is the contrl-alt-j thing. I did it
very easily on my other computer, but cannot retrieve the instructions. All I
want is, if jaws is closed for any reason, to be able to quickly reactivate it.
Thanks again,
Takis

[JAWS-Users] creating shortcut for restarting jaws

2017-09-25 Thread Παναγιωτης Αντωνοπουλος
Hi all,
Could someone please remind me what I need to do to get a shortcut,
preferably alt-contl-j to restart jaws if it crashes? It has something to do
with properties. There was a discussion on this and I have saved the
relevant message, but it was not carried on from the computer I used while
away from base here at Ioannina, so I was unable to retrieve the info, and
I failed to spot the relevant message on the list archive.
T hanks for any help,
Takis

I was confused when I did control I and heard chrome search, but when I
arrowed down to bookmark tree, it was smooth sailing from there.

control i once to turn it on, delete your bookmarks then control i to turn
it
off again.
i have always used this shortcut because i don't have to reach across the
keyboard.
control b should give the same results.

first turn off the virtual pc cursor or else firefox will hang when you open
the bookmark list.
then press control i to open and close the list.
once its open on the screen you can go through the list and delete them and
the
list will stay opened until you press control i again.
