Hi,

The version of Jaws you install on your netbook, will depend on which disk
you use; if you install nine, then that's the one you'll have; the keys
don't change the version of the software.

Hi Kimsan,

There are a couple quite good medical dictionaries and spell checkers that
are free. I have uploaded a zip file to Sendspace for you to download if
you want to. The dictionaries are probably not as complete as a Stedman's
or Dorland's Medical Dictionary, but they do contain several thousands of
words and they are free. Two files in the compressed zip file are
executable files and will install the Free Medical Dictionary and the Free
Medical Spell Checker as programs on your system. The other two files are
word lists that can be added as dictionaries to Microsoft Word. They have
a

DIC extension.

I know that you are using Vista and Word 2007 so the instructions I will
give are for those programs. However, they are not really too much
different for earlier versions of the Word program. Here is how to add
the

dictionaries to be used for spell checking in Word 2007:

1. When you unzip the file that you download from Sendspace you will find
two files with the DIC extension. Select them both and copy them to the
clipboard.
2. Press Windows key and then find your user name in the start menu and
press enter key. In your case you can just press K until you hear Kimsan
and then press enter key.
3. Press A for App Data and press enter key.
4. Press the letter R until you hear roaming and press enter key.
5. Press M until you get the Microsoft choice and press enter key.
6. Press U until you get to the UProof folder and press enter key.
7. Paste the two .DIC files in that folder.
8. Close the window by using Alt+F4.
9. Open Word 2007.
10. Press Alt+F to depress the office button and then press I for Word
options.
11. In the categories list arrow down a couple of times to the proofing
category.
12. Tab to the suggest from main dictionary only checkbox and make sure
it

is not checked. If it is checked then remove the checkmark by pressing
spacebar.
13. Tab again to the custom dictionaries button and press spacebar.
14. Tab to the add button and press spacebar.
15. Tab to the list of files that are in the UProof folder, use down arrow
to move to the all-Unicode.DIC file and then tab to the open button and
press spacebar. Don't do that on the custom.DIC file as it is already
being

use by Word.
16. Repeat the steps taken in 14 and 15 above but choose
mth-medspellcheck.DIC file to open.
17. Use shift+tab until you get to the dictionary list and use arrow
keys

to confirm that the all-Unicode.DIC and the mth-medspellcheck.DIC files
are included in the list.
18. Tab to the OK button and press enter key.
19. Tab to the OK button again and press spacebar.

Now if you type the word hepatosplenomegaly without the quotes into
Word,

it will not be recognized as a misspelling.

Here is the link on Sendspace for the zip file:

Take care.

Use the UP and DOWN ARROWS or first letter navigation to
select Wikipedia and then press ENTER.
After a few seconds, the Virtual Viewer window opens and
displays the results returned from the Wikipedia look up.
Press ESC to close the Virtual Viewer.

If you want to look at the NFL schedule or scores for
Sunday, October 4, 2009, use the NFL Scores look up source
as described in the following procedure.

Press INSERT+SPACEBAR, R to open the Research It edit field.
In the edit field, type the date using the MM/DD/
format, for example, 10/04/2009, and press ENTER.

The Research It dialog box opens with a list of available
resource items. The primary search item always appears first
in the list.
Use the UP and DOWN ARROWS or first letter navigation to
select NFL Scores and then press ENTER.
After 2 or 3 seconds, the Virtual Viewer window opens and
displays a list of games scheduled for that day. Press ESC
to close the Virtual Viewer.

For a summary of current news stories, you can set Reuters
news service as your primary look up source, and then issue
the default Research It keystroke so that you can review the
news summary from any application. To do this, first
configure the primary look up source as described in the
following procedure.

Note: This example uses the Default.JCF file. If you want to
select the primary look up for a specific application, use
JAWS Configuration Manager to open that application's .JCF
file.

Press INSERT+F2 to open the Run JAWS Manager dialog box.
Press C to navigate to Configuration Manager in the list and
then press ENTER.
Press CTRL+SHIFT+D to open the Default configuration file
Press ALT+S and then R to open the Research It Options
dialog box.
Press UP or DOWN ARROW to select a lookup source, and then
press TAB to move to the Set Primary button.
Press SPACEBAR to make the selected item the primary lookup
module.
Select OK to save changes and close the Research It Options
dialog box.
Press ALT+F followed by S to save Configuration Manager
changes, and then ALT+F4 to close Configuration Manager.

Now that Reuters is the set as the primary look up source,
do the following to retrieve the latest news stories.

Press INSERT+WINDOWS Key+R.
After a few seconds, the Virtual Viewer window opens and
displays a synopsis of the top five news stories. If you
want more information about a specific story, select its
Full Article link. This action closes the Virtual Viewer
window and then displays the complete story in a Web
browser. Otherwise, press ESC to close the Virtual Viewer.

Did you finish the installation of ringtone maker? If not, then you
probably aren't infected.
If you did finish the installation I would suggest running, malwarebytes.
You can download it here: www.malwarebytes.com

It's a free program but there is a paid version available.
If you need more help, I would recommend taking this discussion off list.
Just don't want to get into trouble over talking about viruses on here.

Re: [JAWS-Users] I have a question

2009-09-05 Thread Fina Currey

Hi,

I have a question too that maybe, someone can help me with.

I'm looking for a JAWS manual (Getting Started) something that would have
all the keyboard commands for JAWS that would also give key commands for
internet explorer, when surfing the internet...however, I need this in large
print, text, not audio.

I went on the Freedom Scientific site to see if I could find anything but
didn't have much luck as I didn't know how to phrase my search question
intelligently enough to get the results I need.

Can anybody help?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Fina,
If you can print this out yourself and enlarge the font a bit in Ms-Word,
Notepad or Wordpad, the commands are all in the JFw help system.

If your JFw runs in the system tray press JawsKeyPlusJ followed by h, then
k.

If not:
Alt plus tab to the Jaws Window, alt plus h followed by K.

From there you select the book you want in the tree view (expanding the

books with the right arrow or collapsing them with left arrow).
press enter on the book you choose and then F6.
This brings you to a web page containing lists of keystrokes which you can
copy to your clipboard.
You press F6 again to get back to the tree view where you can pick another
book of commands to print out.
You can append subsequent lists to the clipboard with WindowsKeyPlusC and
build yourself quite a nice reference sheet of keyboard commands.

Jon

Hello Ann,

I can't b sure, but from what it sounds like, while you were routing PC to
Jaws, you probably accidently hit the right mouse button instead by
pressing
the insert key and the right mouse button, which is located just to the
left
of the minus key which is what you use in conjunction with the insert key
to

switch back and forth between the PC and JAWS cursors. What you probably
heard the computer say, was right button locked; so, all you have to do,
is press the insert key and the right mouse button again and it will say:
Right button unlocked and you're good to go.

Hope this helps.

With most commands, JAWS uses the INSERT key as a modifier key. INSERT is
pressed in combination with other keys to activate commands. JAWS now lets you
choose which key to use for this modifier, which we call the JAWS Key.

The keys available to use are:

INSERT

CAPS LOCK

SCROLL LOCK

By default, the INSERT key is set as the JAWS Key in the Desktop keyboard
layout, and the CAPS LOCK key is set as the JAWS key in the Laptop keyboard
layout. So you can change the JAWS Key in two ways. Change to a different
keyboard layout, or change which JAWS key is assigned in a keyboard layout.

Changing the Keyboard Layout

To change the keyboard layout, from the JAWS application window, press ALT+O
to open the Options menu and pres ENTER to open the Basic Settings dialog.

TAB to the Keyboard Layout combo box and use the arrow keys to select the
layout you wish to use.

Assigning a Different JAWS Key

To change the key used as the JAWS key for the active keyboard layout:

From the JAWS application window, press ALT+U to open the Utilities menu.

Select Configuration Manager and press ENTER.

Press ALT+S, K to open Keyboard options.

TAB to the JAWS Key radio buttons and select the key you want to use as the
modifier key for the active keyboard layout.

Note: MAGic allows you to select which key is used as the MAGic Key. Since
JAWS now provides the same flexibility for the JAWS Key, when the two products
are used together, it is important that the MAGic Key and the JAWS key are not
assigned to the same key. If they are assigned to the same key, any JAWS
commands assigned to a key combination using the JAWS Key are not activated
when the key combination is pressed

[JAWS-Users] JAWS repeating lines

2009-05-27 Thread Fina Currey
Hello list,

I have two questions for anybody out there besides me who might be a Duxbury
user with JAWS.

1. In JAWS version 9, when I press alt-9, JAWS reads the page, line and
column number. In JAWS 10, when I press alt-9 (this is on the top row, not
the num pad), nothing happens. Can anybody tell me how to find out what keys
JAWS 10 uses to accomplish this?

2. Again, in Duxbury, as I scroll down line by line of the document, JAWS
repeats the line twice. Can anybody tell me how to stop this from happening?

Thanks for any help.

2009-03-15 Thread Fina Currey
Hello Rogelio,

Here is something that a kind soul on one of these lists sent up several
weeks ago and I saved it just for requests like these!!

This is a rather long document so you might want to put it into Word and
braille it for yourself or save it in a safe place.

I hope it helps. It will be below my signature.

JAWS Key
With most commands, JAWS uses the INSERT key as a modifier key. INSERT is
pressed in combination with other keys to activate commands. JAWS now lets
you choose which key to use for this modifier, which we call the JAWS Key.

Since
JAWS now provides the same flexibility for the JAWS Key, when the two
products are used together, it is important that the MAGic Key and the JAWS
key are not assigned to the same key. If they are assigned to the same key,
any JAWS commands assigned to a key combination using the JAWS Key are not
activated when the key combination is pressed

Hello Karen,

The best thing for you to do if you've by now managed to turn it off, is to
go into the control panel; to the accessibility options; Sticky keys are the
first first option there; there's a checkbox; if it's checked, uncheck it.

Hello Freddie,

Well, I'm not only an accomplished JAWS but supposedly, a technology trainer
and I too, had problms accessing the actual movies. I selected a link that
had the name of a movie but it seemd to take me in circles as I could only
se links to other movies, a place where I could join a forum, a list of
users but guess what? No movie ever played so...um, I'll keep playing with
it and if I figure it out, I'll let you know.

Thanks for sending the link.n

Greetings Fena Curry, I discovered a web site called watch - movies-link.net
and it is a site with a catalog of movies that you, me, or anyone can watch
for free. I have only been a jaws user for about 18 months and I still
consider myself some what of a rookie. I don't have any problems pulling up
this particular web site but, I am having alittle trouble selecting and
playing a movie. Maybe If I drop a link to the site into this email, you can
go check it out and figure out how to navigate it with jaws and get back
with me with a few tips. Here is the link to the site:

Greetings from friendly Freddy,
You are some what right, you are missing something. And the
something is; that when using a laptop, the jaws commands are alittle
different. Here are a few tables with jaws commands for laptops. If you
listen closely, I think down towards the end of this message you will find
the jaws key command for help. Another suggestion is to hit control plus the
F key to bring up the find and replace dialog box, and then type in the word
help and then hit the enter key. Hit f3 twice and then hit the escape key
and this should bring you to where you want to be. Just use your insert plus
right arrow key, or your insert plus down arrow key to begin reading. Happy
reding!
Laptop Keystrokes
This section contains information on keystrokes specific to the Laptop
keyboard layout. The keyboard layout can be changed in the JAWS Application
Window under the Options menu, in the Basics dialog. Few Laptop systems have
keyboards with a number pad, so many of these functions have been shifted to
the main section of the keyboard. Many of the keystrokes are not much
different from the Desktop keyboard layout. Only those that are totally
different are listed here.

The other keystrokes are all listed in the Desktop keystrokes section. When
using the Laptop keyboard layout, just substitute the CAPS LOCK key for the
INSERT key. For most of those keystrokes, the INSERT key works as well,
however, you may find the CAPS LOCK key is a very easy to use substitute.

Note: MAGic allows you to select which key is used as the MAGic Key. Since
JAWS now provides the same flexibility for the JAWS Key, when the two

Even if you use a desktop system or keyboard, you may wish to try the Laptop
keyboard layout. When using the Laptop keyboard layout, most of your
commands are right at your fingertips - as you type - so you do not need to
continually switch your right hand to the number pad and back to the main
section of your keyboard

Hello Jack and lists:

I just tried downloading the new version of Skype, V4.0 and it did download
but was totally unaccessible. I went back to download Skype 3.8 and when I
did this, a window popped up advising that we blind users not download
version right now as it is not accessible to blind users and then listed the
link to download version 3.8.

Thought you might want to know.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Skype 4 and Accessibility

Hi,
Skype 4.0 is now available. Here's what's new in the latest revision of the
scripts for Jaws. You can download the 4.0 scripts by visiting,
http://users.visi.com/~dgl/skype/skype4.php
And look for the download file called, Revision 4b3b executable installer |.
Once they are downloaded, the file will have the name, jfw-skr4b3b.exe.
Jack

What's new in Skype scripts 4.0.
This is a fairly significant update to the scripts for Skype 4 beta 3. This
is also the first set of scripts intended for use with the official Skype
4.0 release. This script version should only be used with Skype 4 beta 3 and
the Skype 4.0 release.

Included features and fixes:

list of 15 items
. Ctrl+Shift+D will toggle the DialPad on and off in an active call with a
telephone. For those who prefer the Skype Command key system, Command m d
will also do this. This is an experimental feature and may not work in all
situations.
. Mood text should be easier to edit, meaning JAWS should now more correctly
see the edit box's contents as you type.
. SayLine in Contacts and Conversation lists will say selected but will
not say not selected now, to be consistent with other navigation commands.
. Arrows and SayLine in the conversation list will report conversations with
new content by saying new: first and will include any conversation content
shown on screen in the item announcement. The new flag is cleared for a
conversation when Skype knows that you have read the line. The easiest way
to make this happen is probably with Alt+End, a new command presented below.
. Delete now deletes the focused entry, not the selected entry, in the
Contact and Conversation lists.
. Ctrl+8, the command to switch to the History List when the scripts are
running, should work much more reliably now as you arrow through it:
list of 4 items nesting level 1
. No more need to RouteJAWSToPC to click Show History first.
. No more reading the wrong line when the list scrolls.
. No more double speech as you scroll down.
. No more announcement of not selected on every line.
list end nesting level 1
. Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab should now work for switching among
conversations in Default view as well as Compact view. This is somewhat
experimental, and feedback is welcome. The scripts rely on some undocumented
Skype 4 behavior to make this work.
. Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab also work now to go to a conversation from the
main Skype window.
. For text conversations with one person, JAWS now says the person's online
status as part of the window title and text input box name, as was true in
Skype 3.x.
. There is a new system for moving through chat messages with a remembered
current location for each conversation, making it very easy to make sure not
to miss any chat lines:
definition list of 3 items nesting level 1 Alt with left and right arrows
Move to the previous and next chat message.
Alt+Home and Alt+End
Move to the first or last chat message.
Alt+NumPad5
Repeat the current message. Press twice to virtualize the current message
and the context around it.
list end nesting level 1
The Alt+numbers still work as before. This system works in both Default and
Compact views, though your place in a conversation may be forgotten in
Default view if you don't visit it for a long time.
. Double Ctrl+numbers put the JAWS cursor in their corresponding windows.
This simplifies a few tasks as follows:
definition list of 3 items nesting level 1 To accept an authorization
request Double Ctrl+6 to restrict the JAWS cursor to the Contact Profile
area, then find Add to Contacts and click.
To accept a file transfer, read a voicemail, etc.
Double Ctrl+5 to lock the JAWS cursor into the text message area, then find
the item you want, such as Save for file transfers or Play for
voicemails, and click. If you can't find the item you want, try a single
Ctrl+5 and an End with the PC cursor active, to scroll to the end of the
message list, before doing the double Ctrl+5.
To determine conference participants and/or act on them individually Double
Ctrl+6, then explore with the JAWS cursor and right-click on contact names
as you wish.
list end nesting level 1
. JAWSKey+F8 now uses a generic algorithm instead of one tied to specific
windows and structures, and thus some new buttons are included and some

Hi Fina,
Just booted up the 98 machine to make sure where all these things live
because it has been a long time.
Go into ControlPanel, then display.
On the first tab, the backgrounds tab set the wallpaper to none by hitting
the home key in the list.
You probably want to press control plus tab to go to the next tab which is
screensaver and do the same there.
Next go on over to the web tab with a couple more control plus tabs and
make sure view my desktop as a web page is unchecked.
That should silence the chatter.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Registration Cleaner

2009-02-02 Thread Fina Currey
Hello List,

Is C cleaner a paid or free version? And where can I get it?

I also have another question regarding JAWS: In earlier versions of JAWS, we
could go to programs, find the JAWS submenus and arrow around there until we
found the area in which we could go to do a JAWS repair without having to
re-install it. I'm using JAWS nine and can't seem to find that feature in
there. How would I go about doing a repair in JAWS nine and later versions?

Hi Al,

I am able to keep certain cookies that I don't want CCleaner to remove.
I'll try to explain how to do this as best as I can. It will involve
the Jaws cursor. Open CCcleaner and tab to the option button.

1. Hit the spacebar on the option button.

2. , Using the Jaws cursor, arrow up until you can left mouse click on
the cookie button.

3. You will need to tab until you come to a list of cookies to be deleted.

(Now here is the hard part. Perhaps, someone has a better way of doing
this.)

4. Arrow down through the list of cookies until you find one that you
want to keep.

5. Root jaws to PC on the cookies

6. Using Ctrl+JawsKey+left mouse, you are going to drag that cookie.

7. Right arrow to the cookies to keep column. To do this, to put the PC
cursor on and drop the cookie in place with the Ctrl+JawsKey+left mouse.

You have to find where the cookies to keep column. I can find it easy
enough since I already have cookies in there. For the first time, I
don't remember how you will determine if you are in the right place to
drop the cookie that you want to keep.

I know that this may sound confusing, but I found this method
accidentally, but it works for me. I am like you, I have to keep my
banking cookies otherwise when I log on, without the cookie, I have to
start from the beginning to get into my account.

Let me know if you need further assistance with this. I wish there was
(maybe there is one) a better way to do this and I miss it.

could go to programs, find the JAWS submenus and arrow around there until
 we
found the area in which we could go to do a JAWS repair without having to
re-install it. I'm using JAWS nine and can't seem to find that feature in
there. How would I go about doing a repair in JAWS nine and later
 versions?

 Thank you for your patience.

 Hi Marvin,

Thanks for letting me know that there is an easier way to exclude cookies.

 I
always wonder what those two buttons (less than and greater than) were
 used
 for.

Your explanation was appreciated and very helpful to me and anybody else
 that uses CCleaner.

 Lennie,

I use CCleaner as well. When I open CCleaner, I tab around until I get
to Options and hit space bar.
I then tab around until I get to Cookies, and hit space bar.
I then tab around to an areawhere I hear Cookies to be included; This
is a alphabetical list of cookies.
The next tab is a Greater than button..
The next tab is a less than button.
The next ttab is an area that says Cookies to be excluded.
I back-tab to the area that says Cookies to be included.
I arrow down until I get to a cookie I want to exclude or keep.
While focused on that cookie; I tab to the Greater than button and hit
space bar.
It puts that cookie into the area that says Cookies to be excluded.
I didn't have to use the JAWS cursor or drag and drop.
Of course, I never even knew I could do this until I read your post.
Thanks much,
Marvin

For the first time, I
don't remember how you will determine if you are in the right place to
drop the cookie that you want to keep
