Thank you for the phone number. I will move it out of the inbox and put it

Miriam,

My memory is getting old as I am.

Thanks both of you for your help.

Use research it. BBC, CNN and another one has brief stories that you can
click on to read more about the happening.

Research It is found by pressing down and holding the JAWS key and pressing
the space bar. You will hear a bell sound , press the letter R and you will
get a place to put a word in. Leave it blank and tab to the next field.
Arrow down until you get to BBC and press ender.

Hi.

All the open program's are only represented on at part of the taskbar, and
these you are cycling between with alt+tab.

Jaws gives the ability to access the taskbar icon's by pressing insert+f11
and if you want's to se a list of active window's, you can press
insert+f10.
If you don't want to access any of the icon's you're seeing, than just
press
escape, and you are back agaiin.

Hope this clarifies the subject a bit for you.

Re: [JAWS-Users] no speech adding info address book entries

2010-06-22 Thread Kathy D'Avia

Hi Mike and Marilyn,

When you do JAWS key plus the number 2 and change it to character, it will
only be that way for the application you are in. If you go out of it and
back in it will not stay in character mode.

You should go to the configuration manager.

1. Do JAWS plus the number 6 which will bring up the configuration manager.
2. Press Control plus shift plus D which will bring up the default
manager.
3. Press alt to bring up the file menu , arrow to the right once to set
options and arrow down once to user options .

4. Press enter.
5 Right arrow to typing echo and pick the one you want to use and tab to
okay.

6. Do control S to save and you are done.

This will make all applications the same.

Kathy

Re: [JAWS-Users] Viewing a web cam from an internet site

2010-01-20 Thread Kathy D'Avia

Thanks for your help and all the others that have made suggestions.

I have a blind friend that got me interested in the site and doesn't seem to
have problems getting into it. He is also married and his wife probably
assists him.

It is interesting to learn about Lily and other bears. Being from Minnesota
probably helps. There are a lot of people watching Lily.

In the status line when I am on the web site, and click on the web cam link,
after the page loads, it says there is an error.

I am not sure that the bear is always making noise! When my son hit the
play button, the bear was eating. The mike seems to be turned way up and
I hear constant noise once the webcam stream is activated. Once again,
there is a play button that must be clicked to activate the stream.

The web designer says that he just drops in a DenCam player object from
WildEarth.tv. He is passing on my comments to the developer of this
webcam player.

[JAWS-Users] Viewing a web cam from an internet site

2010-01-19 Thread Kathy D'Avia
Hello,

There is a web site that has a camera in the den of a black bear named Lily.

http://www.bear.org/website/

My computer will not display the video camera. Others tell me that they can
see and hear the bear. Lily is going to have her cubs soon and I would like to
hear them.

I am running a vista home premium, 64 bit with JAWS 11 and IE 7.

On Lily's facebook page there are videos and I can play them there. Any
suggestions?

Thanks,
Kathy.

   Hello,
I have jaws 11, and am using windows 7.
If I have an email with a link in it, I can't arrow down to the link with
up or down arrows. My arrow keys don't seem to pick up the link, so I can
respond to it.
I can tab to it, and if I'm lucky, I'll get it, but it is so much handier
to arrow up or down to the link I want.
I'm using windows live mail, and perhaps it is the issue with windows live
mail, that's presenting this problem. Anyway, do any of you have an idea
as to how I can fix this? I can hit the jaws key and F 7, but in OE, in my
XP days, I could just arrow down to the link in the email, hit enter, and
the link would be there. Jim

Nothing happens. Jaws says blank. Use my left and rite arrows up and

2009-04-25 Thread Kathy D'Avia

Albert,

Two things to remember when selecting, copying and pasting, If you move the
cursor after you selected something, the address will be unselected. JAWS
sometimes does not say copied selection to clipboard but it does it.

As Mike Said, If you want to check to see what text has been selected use
the keystroke Insert, shift, + down arrow. This does not unselect the
selected item.

Hope this helps.

Hi Albert,

When you are on the Email address tab on the properties page of the
address

book press the home/7 key to put the cursor at the beginning of the line,
then hold the left shift key down and press the end/1 key on the number
pad.

Doing this will select the whole line. Now press control + C keys to copy
the Email address to the clipboard. Now you can paste the Email address
you have just copied anywhere you would like. If you want to check to see
what text has been selected use the keystroke Insert, shift, + down arrow
and Jaws will tell you what text has been selected. I hope this helps.
Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] RE Jaws 9 is very sluggish in MS Word 2007 (Lisa)

 Lisa,
Since I haven't seen any response to your question, I'm going to take a
 stab at it.
I'm using Office 2007 with Windows XP and it works very well, so I don't
think waiting for JAWS 10 is the answer. Plus that's a ways off yet.
I had a similar problem awhile back. For some reason the Normal template
gets messed up and causes slow down problems.
The Normal template is the file Word goes to every time you choose to
 start a new, blank document.
You simply need to delete the Normal template. Word will create a new
one, so you don't have to worry about losing something essential. Or if
you are concerned about this simply cut and paste the file to a
different, temporary location. It can be deleted later after you know
 you do not need it.
 Here's what you can do.
 Open My Computer/Windows Explorer.
Go to the Local, C drive
Find the Documents and Settings folder and open it.
Then you will need to find the correct folder for your computer. There
will be folders like, Administrator All users, Default User.
On my computer I need to look under a folder called Tom, but of course
that will be different on your computer.
If you are unsure just look in each of the folders for the following
folders and search through them until you find the right one with the
 normal template in it.

The next folder you need is called Application Data
In that folder you will find another one called Microsoft
In the Microsoft folder you will find a folder called Templates
When you open this folder you will find a folder called Normal.dotm
Then you can do one of two things:
 1. Delete it
 2. Or if you want to keep it around for safety sake to restore it if need
be, you can cut and paste it to a different, temporary location.
When this is done, restart Word and see if this helps.
 Blessings,
 Tom

 Hello everyone,
My jaws 9 is very sluggish in Microsoft word 2007, and I don't know why.
I know that was one of the things that was supposed to be improved in
 jaws 9,
but mine is very slow. When I listened to the what's new in jaws 9 Daisy
book that was one of the things that was demonstrated, and there's was
 very fast.
When I read or write in Outlook Express, or the HJ Pad jaws works great,
but when I do the same thing in MS Word 2007 jaws 9 is very very slow.
 Does anyone
have any ideas of what I can try to fix this, or should I just wait for
jaws 10 to come out? I thought about just waiting for the release of
 jaws 10,
but I know this problem was worked on for jaws 9. Any thoughts on this
would be greatly appreciated! I'm running Jaws 9, and windows XP home
 addition.

 Take care,
 Lisa

[JAWS-Users] Keyboard help JAWS plus the number 1

I volunteer teach JAWS to other visually impaired people who are older and

I like to start them out by going through the keyboard help. It is very

the insert key.

Is there any way I can get these keys to speak when in keyboard help?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem with Word2000 short cut key

2008-07-17 Thread Kathy D'Avia
I also am having this same issue with the short cut key as well as issues
with using Word to create a document.

It started when I downloaded the last update to JAWS 9.

When I am creating a document in Word, JAWS will read a sentence that I type
earlier. It does this when I read by line. When I read the entire document
it reads okay. It is difficult to write like that so I went back to using
7.1 when I am using word.

When I open word, it always has a recovered document and a lot of the time
it is blank. I know that when I closed Word there was nothing left open.

month: the short cut key works the first time after a boot-up. After the
first time, it does not bring-up word and the cursor displays jaws9 on
 the
desk top, the cursor is frozen on this icon and can't be moved untill the
desk top is refreshed. Now I have placed a word icon on the desk top and
by clicking on this icon word 2000 can be brought up. Now another
 strange
thing when word comes up instead of beeing doc1 it may be in anything from
doc2 to doc9 with data from various data files. Now I have performed the
following: repaired word2000 and jaws9 with no results.
I am using the following: Pentium4 with 1gb,XP-SP3, JAWS9 latest build,
 AVG8
(free), super antispyware4, CCleaner. Now the problem occured before
CCleaner was installed, so I don't think it is a problem but I wonder if
AVG8 or Super antispyware could have an effect?
The problem is annoying so any help would be appreciated.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem with Word2000 short cut key

2008-07-17 Thread Kathy D'Avia
Hi Mike,

I do not have or ever had Word Web on my computer so I don't think that is
the issue. I am using Avast.

It is not so much as the short key problem as it is the way Word acts when
creating a document.

 Hi Kathy,

I had this problem after downloading Word Web. After uninstalling Word
 Web
my shortcut keystroke, control, alt, plus w, wouldn't work for MS Word
anymore. I had to change my shortcut keystroke to control, alt, plus m.
 I
am only referring to your shortcut keystroke not working. I don't know if
it has anything to do with the other problems you are having.
This happened on 2 different computers.

 Mike

I also am having this same issue with the short cut key as well as issues
with using Word to create a document.

It started when I downloaded the last update to JAWS 9.

When I am creating a document in Word, JAWS will read a sentence that I
 type
earlier. It does this when I read by line. When I read the entire
 document
it reads okay. It is difficult to write like that so I went back to using
7.1 when I am using word.

When I open word, it always has a recovered document and a lot of the time
it is blank. I know that when I closed Word there was nothing left open.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problems with MS Narrator

2007-12-06 Thread Kathy D'Avia
Hello,

If she shuts down the computer by pressing windows key and then pressing U,
she maybe holding down the windows key while pressing U. This is the hot
key for starting Narrator.

Right, I've had her do this, however, I was wondering if there was
something she might be doing accidentally that might be turning the
narrator on or if anyone had heard of the narrator just randomly turning
on without a prompt. Thanks for the info though.

Exit narrator. If this can't be done in normal conditions, bring up the
utilities menu with Windows-U, u, and then close the utilities window and
tab to the narrator exit button and enter. .

 Hey gang,

I've got a colleague who states that her MS narrator occasionally pops up
without any prompt from her, causing a verbosity battle between JAWS and
 the
narrator. She is running an XP OS and was using JAWS 8 (she just switched
to 9). I was wondering if anyone had ever experienced this and if so,
 what
can be done to keep this from happening. Thanks in advance.
