be accessible.

Re: [JAWS-Users] the creators update

2017-04-10 Thread Nicole Valicia Thompson-Andrews
A day and a half for my laptop and a few days for my desktop. I guess
because Ii kept shutting it off, Jaws wasn't reading, and the desktop
update kept not wanting to complete install. Narrator helped me finish
my laptop's update. Maybe with the next upgrade, I will just use
Narrator.

[JAWS-Users] Accessible Facebook Client

2016-08-24 Thread Nicole Valicia Thompson-Andrews

Sorry, previous sent from the wrong email.

Accessible Desktop Facebook Client
Hi I'm using Facebook for a writing group coaching program I'm in.

Are there any desktop Facebook clients? The site's pretty accessible,
but a desktop client would be easier.

Yes David, very irritating.
But in my case, it was working well until about last Sunday. I don't even have
to be typing anything, as soon as the computer boots, it starts.
Even when I'm using other programs like mediaplayer it keeps on repeating "=".

Yep, I have noticed the same thing with JAWS 15. It usually happens when I am
either reading some packed, or typing. Certain characters like a lowercase I
lowercase L and hyphens or underscores will repeat ad nauseeum him until I move
on to another character. Irritating, and I have no idea what could be causing
it, except possibly the character are so thin, that John is not treating them
as a character but more like a cursor.

Thanks, I will try the screen echo.

I can only guess that jaws is reading it from somewhere. Have you tried to set

need to start to try to identify where it is located. This can be a challenge.
I would start with the task bar. It is possible that something is updating a
status but only reading the equal sign.
Just a couple of thoughts.

[JAWS-Users] WLM and Firefox

2016-02-25 Thread Nicole Valicia Thompson-Andrews
Hi, I've just switched to Fire Fox ans a website I'm preparing to
review books for had suddenly started acting strange with Ie. Now
Windows Live Mail won't open. The messages come up, but when I tab to
the folders treeview, it says working off-line. The message list comes
up as it's suppose too. Also, the menus like File etc have
dissappeared. Also, is there a download completion sound I can use for
FireFox?

Does anyone have the download link for Speak dropbox? My laptop says

a page not found error.

Re: [JAWS-Users] add speakDropbox to that list of apps compatible with Windows 10

2015-08-06 Thread Nicole Valicia Thompson-Andrews
Wow. I can talk to my uncle, I was hoping you had a solution. I
couldn't find the way, so it may be a non-Jaws compatible feature.

On 8/6/15, valiant8086 valiant8...@gmail.com wrote:
 Hi.
those antimalware applications are ridiculously overbearing. They all
started reporting speakDropbox to my web host as malicious a few months
ago, my host contacted me and asked me to resolve it. I double checked
that the site hadn't been hacked and the files replaced or anything like
that. The speakDropbox installers were the same size and behaved exactly
the same as when I compiled them when I redownloaded from the site and
installed them for testing purposes. So I informed my host that there
was nothing wrong. A week later my host contacted me again and said they
took my site down temporarily because they were getting large numbers of
reports of malicious content on my site, that I needed to resolve the
issue and contact them to have the site turned on again.

Programmers have the option to use something called UPX compression in
their program's executables which essentially is a way to compress the
executable file into a slightly smaller one and make it marginally more
difficult to decompile and hack the application. I had UPX disabled for
SpeakDropbox versions 12 and earlier because the advice online is to
keep it off so Antimalware applications can easily read the contents of
the executable and determine that it does or does not have malicious
content. UPX compression prevents a lot of Antimalware applications from
actually analyzing the program because they're just not really capable
of it. So the word on the street is that a lot of them start blocking
programs that were UPX compressed on general principle or at least if it
looks suspiciously like another UPX compressed program that turned out
to be malicious in the past.

Anyway, back to speakDropbox, I had UPX turned off because I wanted
these applications to scan it and see that it wasn't doing anything
nasty. When I got my site taken down for goodness sake, I turned UPX on
and wouldn't you know that took the number of antimalware companies
reporting it from 22 down to 2, one of which was Avast, see the
SpeakDropbox download site for my original complaint on that. These guys
are perfectly happy to just roll all over me and it's of course always
my fault when they have a false positive.

Now regarding your own issue, there must be a way to tell Avast to
simmer down and let SpeakDropbox do its thing.

On another unrelated note, AVG is being a real knothead with the
Guidedog Client, the software application that is part of the service
our company's audiogames use for registration and online communication.
It prevents the games from downloading it, but if you temporarily
disable AVG long enough to do that, when AVG automatically turns on
again, it sees the new files and deletes them, all without telling the
user in any way what the heck is going on. It has no alert what so ever
of its activity, so I get emails from people who just bought one of our
games going it doesn't work, can you help me? I recently spent a few
hours with jaws tandem on one of my friend's who bought one of the
game's computers and eventually proved to him that it was AVG, he didn't
ask for a refund, he's supposed to be getting his sighted buddy to try
and figure out how to add some sort of exception to AVG so he can run my
 game, ick!

So far, the safest Antimalware application seems to be Windows Defender
for windows 8.1 and windows 10 people or Microsoft Security Essentials
for everyone else. The buddy who has AVG was using it for a while, and
got a virus while running it though, so he doesn't trust that anymore.
The last virus I had, I got because I had Windows Defender turned off on
two of my computers. It just so happened it was in a bt sync folder, and
when I turned my tablet on, the one computer I had at the time which had
windows defender enabled started complaining about these bad files
showing up in that bt sync folder and generally making all kinds of
racket. There were 6 people in that folder and I was the one that
noticed the bad files, on a 375 dollar windows 8.1 tablet, of all
things. I re-enabled it on the two computers that had it turned off, and
let it do full system scans and generally cleaned house. To the best of
my knowledge it saved the day even though I was a retard and forgot to
turn it back on at some point prior to that and left myself vulnerable.

Anyhow this isn't completely jaws related, I'd better stop while I have
at least some chance of being ahead, lol.

Okay, I'm using it with Win 7, so the issue may be that it does not support
windows 8, even though I know that there is a fairly recent update. The
developer of QWITTER developed a client called Chicken Nugget that should
work with Windows 8. Also, the official Twitter web site has gone through a

I downloaded it onto my terrabite, and installed it on my desktop, as
I can't get online from my desktop at the moment.

allows for manual checking of said tool tip from anywhere with a
configurable keystroke (especially useful when using sounds only and
wanting to find out what Dropbox is up to when you hear one of the

I think this is on topic since SpeakDropbox interfaces directly with
 JAWS.
If not, let me know and I won't post update notifications here.

In the meantime, version 14 is released, mostly with improvements to
 sound
output. See the change log for full details. If you need to download it
