Rick, When you rip the DVD, does the program give you a way to name it and
can you set up a folder for just your movies?

Yeah, I recently ripped 50+ DVD's.
The program retains your settings from one session to the next, so once
you

Hi list,

The new book share audio MP3 books are awesome.

Whatever text to speech software that book share uses is great.

I just wanted to let the Jaws users list know about it.

You can play the books on the BARD digital audio book players if you put
them in a folder called audio+podcasts. You can also play them in ITunes.

Everything is totally Jaws friendly and accessible…

Hi Vicky Kathy,

This is where I was a bit confused myself but, what you do is when you
hear

whatever sound you have assigned for System Notification, indicating the
Balloon
message, you left mouse click right there! When this balloon message pops
up, this balloon message has the focus of the screen. So, you don't have
to,
Alt + Tab, to find it, it's right there, just press the left mouse click
button! Or, from what I understand anyways, you can sometimes go to the
system
tray find it, like Windows Updates, for example. Hope this helps you as
much as it did me! LOL

Take care.

  Hi All,

I ran across a tip on how to set the time for how long balloon messages
  will
  stay up so you can have time to access them.  Here you go;

In Windows 7 it's under Ease of Access. Type Ease of Access in to
the

search box in the start prompt. In the Ease of Access Center go to,
Make
  it
easier to focus on tasks, and hit enter.
Near the end of the options that come up is a combobox with different
time
  settings to adjust the time
that those balloons stay on screen.
I adjusted mine to 1 minute which gives me enough time to find them and
click on them. Hope this helps. Take care.

Press

hi Lennie, I've never had Jaws freeze after a hibernation wake up.
However, sometimes, jaws will freeze and can't be brought back sometimes.
What I do sometimes is, as long as I can get Nvda to start, I will go to
the task manager with control shift escape, then control tabbing until I
get to the processes tab, once in the processes tab, tab once, and you
should see a list of apps that are running. hit the letter J and see if
you see something like, jfw.exe. That's Jaws that is running in the
background. tab a couple times until you see something like end task
button. his the spacebar and tab again to hit end task button a second
time. that is the confirmation to shut down a program. once you hit end
task button a second time, close the task manager with alt f4 and then try
turning jaws on again. Sometimes this works for me if Jaws gets stuck in
the background.

Let me know if you have any problems and I'll try my best to help.

Have a nice day.

Hi,

I think that I have a problem that does not occur all the time. I am
using Jaws12, window XP.

I usually shut off my desktop computer by putting it in hibernation. I
have been doing this for as long as I have XP operating system.

However, lately when I come out of hibernation, Jaws does not respond.
This does not happen all the time, but when it does, it is disconcerting.

I start NV DA to try to figure out what is going on, but no luck. I had
my wife look at the monitor and nothing stands out.

I tried to kill Jaws with jawsKey+WindowKey+F4 (is that the correct
shortcut to kill Jaws) and I use my shortcut key to start Jaws, but
nothing happens.

So using NV DA, I restart my computer and as it is starting to shutdown,
Jaws suddenly wakes up! By then it is too late and I have to wait for
Jaws to come back when the computer is restarted.

Is there anything that I can do to get around this problem after I come
out of hibernation? Any suggestions or ideas will greatly be appreciated.
I don't want to have to do a complete shutdown each time I get off my
computer and keep doing restarts.

Thanks in advance and take care.

Lennie

Miriam,
Here are step by step instructions for using the FS Reader, Version 2
which should have installed in your system if you loaded Jaws 12 or 13.

1. Go to your Desktop.
2. Press the letter F to use First Letter Navigation and locate a link
called FS READER 2.0
3. Press Enter to open the FS Reader program.
4. You will now be on a blank menu because nothing has yet been called
up.

5. Press Control O to open Fs Reader's search module.
6. Shift Tab and your cursor should be on a list of built in training
files.
7. Choose one of the files by lining up on it and pressing Enter.
8. You will now be able to read that the file has been prepared for
reading. The name will be highlighted on your screen.
9. To start Fs Reader, press control P for Play or Pause.
10. To pause the reading, press Control P, again.

Miriam, this will get you started. There are many other controls you
can use to advance through the file, speed up or slow down the reading
and so on.
In answer to your earlier question, the files read by the Fs Reader in
this manner are recordings of an actual voice.
If you have loaded all of the training files when you installed Jaws,
everything you need should be there in one of those files.
I hope this helps.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] How to get information about jaws that is useable
to me

The easiest way for me to learn is to read simple directions on how to
do something and take notes. And then, if I do an operation often
enough, I memorize it. Otherwise, I look back at my notes. So I'm
wondering where, on the FS website, I can find something to download or
copy which describes Jaws 13 and also, how to use Read It. I see that
there's material in daisy format, but then I have to find and download
the FS Reader. If I do that, does it make it easy to read the material?
Aren't there word documents that provide the same information? Hearing
the material in a podcast doesn't seem to work. It's just too fast for
me. I can't absorb it

HI? DECTalk was or is commercial software and someone has to have the
copyright on the sapi dectalk unless it is a homecooked program, in
which case this should not be on list. List Daddy Dave might spank us

both.

*grin*

If I remember correctly, one version of DECTAlk is actulaly supposed
to be open source but I did not look into this.

I will contact you off list where we can continue this intersting
conversation and research project and if we find an official source or
homepage, we can still share with the group.

Sorry everyone for my curiosity getting the better of me and asking
about sapi dectalk. Since it was a question of it working with jaws, I
hope it was not too off topic.

If this is something that is not an official product or not just yet,
Ms.

Arianna and I will take this off list.

Thanks bunches

Doris

is there no official homepage for the program?

First, I have to send the program as an attachment and the email lists
do not allow attachments.

This is why I said I'd send it to you directly if I have your email
address.

There is no charge for this and I don't think it's brand new. I don't
even remember where I got it; I think it was from one of the lists.

so, send me your email address and I'll get it off to you. You can
then send it to anyone you wish to.

Dear MIss Ariana,

I am sure more than I are intested in a sapi version of DECTAlk. I
know that a Miss Margret on here especially would love it as she has
mentioned her frustration of DECTalk Access32 not working with
anything higher than jaws 10. IN fact, this is of interst beyond this
jaws list as a sapi version of DECTAlk would work not only with jaws
but anything that supported sapi. I know nvda users would love to
have another light-weight but better sounding synth to use with nvda.

I had heard about a sapi version being worked on but not of it having
been released.

so why not just post the homepage of the program or is it being sold
by GW Micro as DECTalk Access used to be?

Also the price tag would be intersting to know.

Anyway, I think we all would benefit from the information and not
just me. Maybe this shiny new DECTalk was released just in time for

Christmas?

Thanks for any Information!

IE9?

Hi,

I am not using I E 9 yet, but here is a message that NLS sent out about
downloading books from BARD. I would assume the process would work the
same

for any downloads, including book share. If this does not answer your
question, I am sure an I E 9 user can give you further assistance.

Joni

Hello List Members,

Those of you who have started using Internet Explorer 9 have probably
noticed that downloading doesn't work the same way as it does with earlier
versions
of IE. The process can make you think nothing is happening, which can be
confusing and frustrating. Fortunately, however, it's easy to download
with

IE9
once you understand the changes.

When you download a book with Internet Explorer 9, the prompt to download
or

save appears in a toolbar called the Information bar. You can respond to
this
prompt in one of two ways. One is to press Alt-N, which brings focus to
the

Information bar where you can choose whether to open or save the file. The
other is to press Alt-S, which bypasses the Information bar and chooses to
save the file.

Once you press Alt-N and choose to save, or press Alt-S, the file begins
to

download. To see the progress of the download, press Control-J to open the
View Downloads dialog box. Within this dialog box is an Options button
that

takes you to a dialog where you can choose whether to be notified when
downloads
are complete.

If you realize that you made a mistake and you don't want to download this
book, press Alt-N to go back to the Information bard. Focus will move to
the

Cancel button, so press Enter to cancel the download.

By default, Internet Explorer 9 saves to a folder called Downloads in your
User folder. If you want to change this location, do the following:

1. Press Enter on the link to download a book.
2. Press Alt-N to bring focus to the Information bar.
3. Press Tab to the Save split button.
4. Press Down Arrow until you reach Save As.
5. Press Enter.

You are now in a standard Save As dialog box where you can change the file
name and download location if you like.

We hope this information will help you download the books you want using
Internet Explorer 9. Happy reading.

The BARD Technical Support Team

up, press the spacebar. Now, shift tab to your columns list to make
sure

that subject is where you want it, if it isn't, tab to move up press the

spacebar to save your changes close. If you need to move a column down,
tab to move down, press the spacebar, shift tab back to the columns to see
if the column of choice is where yu want it, when finished tab to okay,
press spacebar to save close. You can only move a column 1 position at

Subject: [JAWS-Users] ITunes Accessibility

Ok, just downloaded and installed ITunes on the computer.
I'm using XP Pro and latest build of JAWS 13. I wanted to
set up my Apple ID, password, etc. Seems to be much of the
screen not consistently accessible with JAWS. Are most of
you going through your PC with IPhone to do updates etc. or
directly to the phone? Are there scripts out there that make
the ITunes more accessible? All help appreciated

Al

Fred, I am talking about the one's Al noted in his last
message.
There is a free intro webinar for office 2010 this Tuesday
for an hour at 12 noon. Also, you can go to the download
page for the training area and download audio and text
documents with training material for the free webinars. I
am going to pay roughly $30 for the Outlook 2010 webinar as
you can follow along during the class and or simply use the
downloaded materials with or without being at a specific
date for training. There is a good schedule of upcoming
webinars.

the thing about Outlook 2010 that I'm fighting with is that
the ribbon changes depending on the page you are on. For
example, when you're reading email, the upper ribbon has
'message' at the top, and the lower ribbon choices relate to
sending a message. Wo more. When you move the cursor to
read a list of attachments, the upper ribbon says
'attachments'. and the lower ribbon choices deal with
attachments.
To get to the BCC field, open a new email. Press alt-p to
the options tab, and arrow down.
