My first version of Jaws was 1.1 on Windows 3.1. The Jaws update that I
liked the best was version 3.31 in which you could finally read the text on
web pages...

[JAWS-Users] Question about first version of JAWS

2010-09-04 Thread Alan Dicey

Dear Friends,
Yes, JAWS 3.7 was excellent, but So was JAWS 3.3 and JAWS 3.5!

Funny, we did not have any problems with the program back then, nor did we
expect to!

Not till JAWS 4.0, that was Ted Henter's first disaster!
But with 4.5 everything was fixed, and JAWS 5.0 was excellent also just like
JAWS 6.0

So strange we now expect problems with JAWS, and sure enough they are there!

With Best Regards,
Alan

Chris,

Did you have one of those landmark birthday's recently? What is with
all of
the looking back? Smile!!

Yes, for me it was JAWS 4.something. I moved over kicking and
screaming. I
was not happy about my employer refusing to support Artic and Magic by
MicroSystem. Magic would not work with JAWS and I had to use ZoomText.
Looking back, it was a necessary and good move.

Hi
My first version of JAWS was 4.5. I had to run it in forty minute mode
until my sister was so kind that she bought me the full version.
Before that I was running a speech program that ran on MS DOS 3.2. Does
any one remember those days?

God Bless,

I remember those days and the first piece of equipment I used with my IBM
computer with 640 kilobytes of ram was something known as the Speaquilizer
which was a long card inserted in one of the slots in the computer. And
then there was a program called ASAP authored by Larry Skutchan in 1990 and
then JFW 3.5. How things have changed!

Hi
My first version of JAWS was 4.5. I had to run it in forty minute mode
until my sister was so kind that she bought me the full version.
Before that I was running a speech program that ran on MS DOS 3.2.
Does any one remember those days?

God Bless,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Question about first version of JAWS

2010-09-03 Thread tim

Well that is going back a ways and a lot of ops for me at least.
Started with dos5.0 running vocaleyes and then when jaws for dos came
out gave that a try. next windows3.11 running wineyes1 and jaws1. But
when college came into play win95 and jaws2.0. The ops and screen
readers than where very stable and if they didn't support something,
it just didn't speak it. Now they try and blow up causing reboots of the op.
Another one I played with back then was win bridge a very nice run on
win3.11 but didn't continue
As the new ops came out so did my screen readers up to now a vista
and xp pro box running jaws11.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Question about first version of JAWS

2010-09-03 Thread Marilyn Walker
Come to think of it, i started learning jaws in '98, spring, I think, on my
windows 95 first computer. Shortly, i got a windows 98 computer and then xp
which I've had for about 6 years. The best improvement in jaws for me over
the years was hitting enter to get forms mode on rather than using that more
complicated system of insert and some f key. Most of us probably appreciate
simpler rather than more complex so do not feel we get our sma money's worth
out of all the new bells and whistles. marilyn- Original Message -

I played with a demo version of Jaws back in 98, but didn't' really start
using it until 2000 at version 3.7.

I totally agree. I wish it still worked on my present computer. I would
probably use it! It worked great! Read everything well! No problem with it
at all.

My employer bought me JAWS 3.7u, I think in 2001. In many respects, I
think that was the best version of JAWS ever.

 Annette
