[JAWS-Users] Balloon hot key
Some web sites have a little help balloon or other information in a balloon that opens up when you point the jaws cursor over a graphic. Is there a hot key that will read just what is in the box/balloon? I couldn't find any info on it in the help files. I'm using the latest Jaws 11 update as of a week ago or so. Thanks. I believe it is: Num pad slash for desktop or caps lock number 8 for laptops. Hi, I think the correct term for this in JAWS parlance as well is an OnMouseover element, which may be a link. On a desktop, press ctrl+JAWS+enter to activate it. Sometimes these OnMouseovers don't reveal any extra text, having been put there by the designer for goodness knows what. - Original Message - From: BDM li...@braddunsemusic.com To: Jaws Users List jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Tuesday, August 17, 2010 11:53 AM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Balloon hot key Some web sites have a little help balloon or other information in a balloon that opens up when you point the jaws cursor over a graphic. Re: [JAWS-Users] Balloon hot key
What I am trying to read is not a link. It is a cartoon strip, a graphic which an artist friend of mine has described for blind folks. He has to work within the parameters of the hosting company right now. Basically it is a balloon that pops up when the mouse pointer is over the graphic. I can read it if I find the graphic, route the Jaws cursor to the PC cursor, arrow up once and down again and it will read the first line of the balloon and that is it. If at that point I use INSERT B to read a dialog box, it will read the entire thing but not before reading everything on the screen first. So I'm looking how I can read it with one hot key. If not he'll be trying something different down the road to make it accessible. His link is: http://tinyurl.com/2bmuras Press G until you hear graphic small town values and then the name of that day's cartoon. Re: [JAWS-Users] Balloon hot key
See previous response to earlier note. Simulating a clikc does not read it :). It opens automatically you need press nothing to open it, but reading it in its entirety is the issue. I know a different screen reader has a hot key for reading such balloons but the cursor is horrid to get where you want it, I hadn't tried it with this balloon, I figured there must be a Jaws hot key for it, perhaps not. Maybe I ought try tech support too. Brad At 11:47 AM 8/17/2010, you wrote: To access the balloon, you do a simulated left-click the numpad slash key. Re: [JAWS-Users] Balloon hot key
I agree. That is what he is trying to do. The comic web software he's using says its alt tag/text but obviously it isn't. I suppose he could edit the source code but so much is not done with long hand code these days. He's wanting to make it accessible but in the midst of a few projects currently so I told him I'd see what I can find out for readability this way. But evidently there isn't a simple screen reader solution with the hosting he is using :). Brad At 04:16 PM 8/17/2010, you wrote: Why not just add Alt text to the graphic?
