I know that, in Excel, there is a keyboard command for inputting the date in a 
cell.  Is there a similar function in MS Word 2007?

well, i can press ctrl+; (control plus semicolon) to insert the date 
and shift+ctrl+; (shift plus control plus semicolon) to insert the 
date in to a cell in excel here.

alt+shift+d will insert the date in word and shift+ctrl+alt+d will 
insert the time.
