How about the Fn key? Does it have special functions with several of the
other keys? Might you have turned it on again, having previously disabled
it? (That, or a dirty klaptop keyboard, would not affect the use of an
external keyboard.)

I'm currently getting my Toshiba laptop keyboard repaired/replaced.
Evbentually it began to beep after the Windows startup. Just before that
began to hapen, for about half an hour it wouldn't respond to anything I
tried to do on it. The laptop works fine with an external keyboard.

Hi Sherri,

It's most likely the touch pad located just below your keyboard.

You have to turn the touch pad sensitivity level down, so it's not picking
up your palm movements and the like.

Alternatively, you can turn the touch pad completely off, but if sighted
users use the laptop also, this may present a problem for them when they go
to use the computer, though some laptops have a hotkey to turn the touch pad
on and off.

Alternatively, you can tape a piece of paper over the touch pad, so that
your hand isn't making contact with the pad itself.

This is what a friend of mine did, it it turned out to be successful.

If you need more information on how to perform the above tasks, send us your
laptop manufacturer, model and if possible, your serial number, and someone,
more than likely me, can send you the relevant text from your laptop's
manual. Well, except for the taping part, that one you'll have to manage on
your own. LOL.

Hope this helps.

I thought that perhaps the laptop was borrowed by a friend or one of her
sighted children and that they may have reactivated the touchpad without
letting her know.

2015-03-31 Thread Steve
I suspect that it may be a dirty keyboard or a bad connection. I rather doubt
that since she's been using the laptop fine for years that suddenly she would
be brushing the touchpad.

Turn the laptop upside down with it off and gently shake and tap. This might
dislodge crumbs or dirt.

Try blowing out the keyboard with compressed air.

If you know someone who is good with computer repair, have them disassemble and
check the seating of the keyboard ribbon cable.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Do you have the touch-pad turned on with the laptop keyboard? If so, you're

Hi Sherri,
Does your laptop have a TouchPad below the spacebar?
Sometimes they get bumped while using the keyboard on the laptop, and cause
problems.
If you use an external keyboard, you would not experience the problems

Just a thought.
