Thanks, George. In fact, Schwab has entered into what's called a "structured
settlement" concerning accessibility, and it has people specifically assigned
to handle website accessibility. However, I think they really fell short in the
planning of this completely revised website.
For example, information that used to be presented compactly but in different
areas is now combined into single huge tables, but the tables aren't formatted
to be read easily by screenreaders, at any rate, JAWS. You don't get column
headings or row names.
Also, there's now a complicated navigation structure that I'll need to organize
with the help of placemarkers. The problem today was that this structure isn't
intuitive to a screenreader user, and so it took me ages to get anything like a
feel for how it works, and I'm still wasting time re-analyzing it.
Other time-wasting annoyances are that the main content on a page is given a
heading at level 4, which means you need to press h over and over before JAWS
recognizes that level. I tried r for "region," but it has the same problem that
you need to press it several times and a separate problem in that you don't
know when you've landed in the region you want.
The day began with my computer crashing several times when I tried to get past
Schwab's log-in screen with IE11. I finally resorted to Google Chrome. Firefox
had other problems, but in that case I have to suspect my JAWS quick settings.
For example, I discovered that by having turned off "inline frames" in order to
navigate the NY Times, I'd prevented JAWS from recognizing edit fields on the
Schwab site. I fixed that, but I'm still having problems with Firefox and
Schwab.
I'll be curious to hear about your experience with it.

I have a small Schwab account but go there rarely.
My son is a Senior Manager with them and coming by in a few hours to watch a
UofA basketball game with me. I will ask him about this and put it back on the
list.

Does anyone on the list use the Schwab website? They've changed it today, and
I'm finding it a nightmare. Another JAWS user friend of mine is not
experiencing these changes, which makes me speculate that they're rolling them
out at different times in different regions.
