Re: [JAWS-Users] Permanently Turning Off The Reading Of Headings AndParagraph Markers
Excellent work, Brian. Tom, If you aren't sure what a setting does in the Quick Settings dialog, tab once and a description is provided for each setting. In order to permanently save that setting, tab again to the Okay button and press Enter. Jaws automatically saves those settings until you change them. Annette: Hate to bug you again. In fact, I wanted to write to you off list, so as to not clutter up the list with my question, but I could not pull your personal e-mail address from your original e-mail. Anyway, can you tell me exactly how to access the paste special unformatted texxt option? Here are the instructions you sent me the other night: Go to Home on the Ribbon, Paste, Paste Special, Unformatted Text. I can't seem to find the option in the home menu. Thanks so much for the clarification, Annette. The more I worked with the web documents I was describing in my previous messages, the more I realized that it was probably the web page formatting that was giving me problems as I copied and pasted the material into a Word document. I'll definitely keep this in mind for future reference. Re: [JAWS-Users] Permanently Turning Off The Reading Of Headings AndParagraph Markers
Brian: Since I am using Word 2010 here, I have tried both of the options you have suggested. Interestingly, I can get the paragraph and line indications to turn off in a given document. However, when I go back to the web page and copy and paste another section into a new document, the paragraph and line indications re-appear. I think it may have something to do with the content of the web page itself. The thing is that once the line and paragraph indications re-appear, they appear in all other documents I access, so I have to go through the process of disabling them again. My solution for now is to copy and paste the web content into a notepad texxt file, and save it that way. I tried saving the copied texxt file into Word, but the marker indications re-appeared there too. The interesting thing is that I took the text from the web page I was working with, pasted it into a notepad file, and then into a word file, and the various heading and paragraph markers re-appeared. They did not appear in the original notepad file. I have encountered a very strange problem when working with the text from e-mails that have been saved as Microsoft Word files. It seems that whenever I work with or create the files, paragraph and heading markers are read within the file. I can turn this off by going into the Jaws Quick settings menu, but as soon as I resume the editing again, paragraph and heading markers re-appear and are read in the newly-edited document. Interestingly, they are also now read in any other MS Word document I open later on. Does anyone know how I can turn the reading of paragraph and heading markers off for good! I'm using Office 2010, and Jaws version 16.0.3048 on this Windows 7 work laptop. Re: [JAWS-Users] Permanently Turning Off The Reading Of Headings AndParagraph Markers
Hello Dr. Tom, Here are a few suggestions: If you use the JAWS key with V, type in the word "line", and use down arrow key you will have two results. The "new lines and paragraphs indication" should be set to Off. Press spacebar repeatedly until the off setting is reached. Use OK until out of dialog boxes. Use JAWS key with V and type in the word "heading." Use the spacebar until the Off option is active if you don't want any heading announced in the document. Other options are "On" and "Heading with level." Use OK until out of dialog boxes. If you are using Word 2013, I have noticed that the hotkey of CTRL+Shift+8 doesn't turn on and off the View All option on some systems. In Word 2013 use Alt followed by H followed by 8 to do that function. The View All option in Word 2013 was moved to the home tab of the ribbon instead of the view tab. Take care. See what happens when you use Paste Special, unformatted text. Go to Home on the Ribbon, Paste, Paste Special, Unformatted Text.
