I think Media center concentrates mostly on television and other sources these days. I never used it in XP, except to adjust a particular parameter on WinDVD. There are far, far better alternatives. I use the Media Centre for digital t.v. but have never tried it to play a dvd. You should be able to access everything that you need from the front menu.
