[JAWS-Users] New Computer User
She does need one on one help I think. But rather she can get it or afford to pay is the question. Otherwise, she needs to just focus on one thing at a time. I have read post on this list of things these guys do and lordy it just seems like something I wouldn't ever do. So I think the key for Karen is to only follow steps for whatever problem she is needing help for and disregard all the other things or she will get into more areas that will be confusing to her. She should in my opinion, save all future emails in a folder withing her email client so she can read them over at her leisure.. - Original Message - From: "Marilyn Walker" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Thursday, October 02, 2008 12:51 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] need help with a problem caused whenIhadhiredatechnician here who knows nothing about Jaws: You're right, Patricia. I do alt tab first just to see what is running. What's your opinion on the avg thing that has Karen hung up. She is focusing on too many things at once, as I see it. Sometimes people get into secondary things before they have a general feel for the menus and screens and get hobbled by too much going on. Karen wants a live person to instruct her. There must be other jaws users on Cape Cod so how could she find someone who knows jaws? Could she try local school districts? marilyn Visit the JAWS Users List home page at: http://www.jaws-users.com Visit the Blind Computing home page at: http://www.blind-computing.com Address for the list archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com To post to this group, send email to jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help from Mailman with your account Put the word help in the subject or body of a blank message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Use the following address in order to contact the management team [EMAIL PROTECTED] If you wish to join the Blind Computing list send a blank email to the following address: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Visit the JAWS Users List home page at: http://www.jaws-users.com Visit the Blind Computing home page at: http://www.blind-computing.com Address for the list archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com To post to this group, send email to jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help from Mailman with your account Put the word help in the subject or body of a blank message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Use the following address in order to contact the management team [EMAIL PROTECTED] If you wish to join the Blind Computing list send a blank email to the following address: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Exactly! That's how you learn. You should try to get some training, but the best training is designed to get you started, and from there, you learn by trial and error, just like cooking, child raising, etc. Andy -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Karen Bailey Sent: Tuesday, September 16, 2008 12:20 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] new computer user I guess then, I should be brave and start experimenting more? Hi Karen, When i first started with computers, a friend told me that there is nothing that you can type that will cause your computer to blow up. And, with Windows, there are usually several opportunities to undo anything that you do. [JAWS-Users] new computer user
Hi Karen, I can remember how totally intimidated i was by jaws and the computer when i first got mine. I was 52 and had no idea what i was doing. If you go into the jaws window and hit alt+h, arrow down and you'll find "training" and "keystrokes with jaws". that's a good starting place. I think the thing that made me feel most comfortable, since i was afraid i'd break the monster, was knowing that i can go into help, or the control panel, or any program, play around all i want and, as long as i hit escape rather than "accept", "yes", or enter, i wouldn't change anything permanently.
