Re: [JAWS-Users] on some websites I can't activate buttons
It is the OCR processing--insert-space followed by O for OCR; then choose S for Screen, W for Window, or C for current control. If you are in a .pdf that won't read, you can press D for document. - Original Message - From: joanne To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Monday, November 30, 2015 3:51 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] on some websites I can't activate buttons Steve, what is the Jaws image processing function? Re: [JAWS-Users] on some websites I can't activate buttons
Two things you should try if you haven't: Try it with a different browser--I've had sites where firefox will work if IE 11 doesn't and vice versa. Second, try the Jaws image processing function; sometimes there will be something you can double-click on after you do the recognition. Third, try a different screen-reader. You will need to refresh the page, but on some sites I've had luck with NVDA or System Access when Jaws would not work. Speaking of Amazon! I note that many of the e-mails I get read the subject line and then stop, rest of the screen is blank. Using Jaws 17 latest, tried Jaws key X to switch through the different smart navigation views, pages that used to read are now blank. Using Outlook 2010 Windows 7. Re: [JAWS-Users] on some websites I can't activate buttons
Hi. I have the same problem with my banking website. I sometimes have to switch browsers, and sometimes I have to change screen readers in the middle of what I am doing to click a button, or link. I think the website is just poorly coded not taking accessibility into account. There is a lawyer in California that is an expert in getting many of these sites to make their websites accessible. She made Bank of America change their website to make it more accessible, and she just made humana make their prescription labels accessible. She also make CVS do the same thing. Hi, I've noticed that when encountering some of these buttons or links sometimes turning off virtual cursor temporarily in jfw enables them to be executed. I hope this helps. Re: [JAWS-Users] on some websites I can't activate buttons
I experience this quite a lot too. Using latest build of FireFox under Windows 8.1 with a TripleTalk USB synth. I have to use the JAWS v17 OCR feature ([Insert]+[Spacebar], [o], then [w]) and then use the JAWS cursor to locate the button text to left mouse click on it. It's like JAWS isn't getting the correct X/Y coordinates for the link/button as you're using the virtual cursor to read/navigate through the webpage. It is really a pain in the butt when I thought hitting the [Enter] or [Spacebar] key on a link or button would simulate a left mouse click. Guess FS has secretly disabled this functionality or something? At 09:54 PM 11/27/2015, you wrote: Joanne, I have run into the same problems with web sites too especially banking.
