Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2007 help
Ann, You can create new rules easily when using the later versions of Outlook. I am referring to the e-mail sorting capability. Other rules and alerts can be created. CREATING A RULE IN MICROSOFT OUTLOOK: 1. Focus on the message on which you would like to create a rule. I use rules to divide the messages and send them to folders. 2. Press the Applications key or use Shift F10. 3. Down arrow until you hear "Create Rule" and press Enter on that option. 4. Outlook gives you several options you can use which includes simply sending that particular message directly to a folder. To create a rule, tab until you hear something like, "When I get messages from, - - - -" Edit that information until you have only what you need to sort the message. For example, "jaws-users-boun...@jaws-users.com" Further along in the same dialog, is a checkbox indicating "Subject Contains". Using this option, you can edit the information to look for specific contents in the Subject field of any message. For example, I choose the name of the e-mail list and edit the field so that only that information is shown. 5. Continue tabbing until you locate the checkbox indicating "Move To Folder" and press spacebar to put a check there. 6. As soon as you check that option, you will be able to tab to a folder list. Press Enter on the folder name you would like to use. If you need to create a new folder, be sure to move up until you reach the top of your list marked "Personal Folders". If you Shift Tab at that point, you'll reach the "New" option. Press Enter and add the folder name when prompted. In this way, your new folder will be a part of the main list, not a sub-folder created within an existing folder. 7. The focus will be returned to the option marked "Move To Folder". Tab carefully through and make sure that the correct folder is chosen. Tab to Okay and press Enter. You may be asked if you'd like to apply the new rule to already existing messages. Press Enter and the new rule will be applied to the contents of your In Basket. IMPORTED RULES: There are rare occasions when a rule created in Outlook Express will work in Outlook but in most cases, they do not. One of the functions you will find in the Rules option is something called "Manage Rules and Alerts". If you press Enter on this function, you will eventually come to a list of rules. You can delete any of those old Outlook rules here. You may need to use the "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons if your list is extensive. When you press the Delete key, you will be asked to confirm your choice. In this section, you can also activate any or all of the rules you have created manually. MESSAGE CONTENT DISPLAYED: The Outlook defaults will usually provide most of the information you are looking for unless the View settings have been changed. Ann, be very careful with these settings. It is possible to inadvertently create a situation where your messages will not be read at all. There is a "Restore To Default" option. The condition of your screen will often determine how much information is being shown. When you open Outlook, make sure that the display is set on Full Screen, not Restored or one of the other options. You mentioned the .pst file. That file stores your Outlook environment. It contains a list of your folders and any other view options you may have chosen. The file is updated every time you open and close Outlook. I recommend that you do a file search and save a copy of the .pst file to another location before making any changes in the View settings. In that way, you can go back to the original by importing the .pst file you have saved. That is a fallback for you if you run into trouble with the settings in the View tab. The Import and Export options are located under the File tab on your navigation ribbon. I hope that this helps you, Ann. Someone else may have already answered your questions. Hi, You can contact MS Accessibility and they will run the repair or reinstall the program for you. And also configure all the outlook settings for you. At the same time, they can look your pc over and run their antivirus. Brian: thanks very much for the work around. I am now able to view messages through the browser that maybe otherwise looks like its in table view. Reese - Original Message - Hello Reese, I am not sure that this problem has been resolved yet. Here are some suggestions: One workaround for HTML messages that JAWS won't read correctly in Outlook 2007 is to have your browser read the message. Use Alt followed by H followed by X followed by v. The H moves focus to the message tab, the X activates the "other actions" button, and the V opens the message in the browser. Use up or down arrow key in the list of categories until you get to the E-mail security category. 3. Use tab a number of times and you should find a box for reading all messages in text. Press spacebar on the choice. 4. use tab key to the OK button and press enter key. If you have a message that has been converted into text from HTML, you can change it back to HTML. You need to find the information bar. I have done this using JAWS cursorThe Alt+N that can be used in Internet Explorer doesn't work. If you route JAWS to PC and go to the top of the window, you can then use down arrow until you hear the message that says something like "Thiss message has been converted to plain text." Do a right mouse click on the line of text and choose to have it put back into HTML. Take care.
