Re: [JAWS-Users] yahoo chatroom
If you are asking about yahoo instant Messenger, depending on your version of jaws, scripts are included for it. You will need to find a version of Yahoo IM that works with your version of jaws or will need to find updated scripts. I don't know if yahoo IM supports group chats and if so, if this feature is supported by jaws. If you are referring to some chat feature somewhere on the yahoo.com website, I am not sure about that. Oftentimes webgbased chat is not or not easily accessible. AS for accessible voice chat sites frequented by the blind, there are many choices and different personal preferences. I have taken the below list from the afore-mentioned vipconduit's items of interst section: audio-tips: http://www.audio-tips.com/ Fantasy Ltd: http://www.fantasyltd.com/ For the people: http://www.for-the-people.com/ In the Blind Spot http://www.intheblindspot.com/ Interactive Christian Community (all-Christian chat site) http://www.iccsite.com/ New Visions Network http://new-visions-network.com/ Out of Sight http://www.out-of-sight.net/ The accessible Friends Network (based in the U.K.) http://www.tafn.org.uk/ Most of the above chat sites use the tc5 chat client from talking Communities; for the people uses the chatterbox chat client, and vipconduit and tafn use the VIPCommunicator chat client. all of these chat clients can be used by the blind and work in much the same way as they employ a push to talk system by which one speaker at a time can talk while holding down a specified key on the keyboard, most often the control key. hth Doris At 12:34 PM 12/20/2010, you wrote: Personally I suggest http://www.vipconduit.com as my vote for a good chat site. Re: [JAWS-Users] yahoo chatroom
And if I may be so bold, both you and miss pauline may have a personal bias in favor of the vipconduit chat site as both of you are on staff there. g all of the chat sites listed in my afore-mentioned post are accessible and can be used with jaws (yeah! this may even keep this on topic just a bit! g) and on each of these sites, people are helpful and will help newcomers with setting up and configuring the chat client that is used on their site. I personally hang out on the vip the most, too, but i do not think that this is the time and place to promote one chat site over another. jaws versions from 11 up (actualy from a later build of jaws 10 up) include scripts for the tc5 chat client as the tc5 software is used by FS themselves for their online training. For earlier versions of jaws, the scripts can be donwoaded from fs's website from http://www.freedomscientific.com/training/WebConferenceScripts.zip Additionally, the tc5 client is self-voicing and, if set up to do so, will read text chat mesages, entries and exits, etc. with sapi speech. Likewise, the vipcommunicator client used on vipconduit and tafn also uses sapi speech. the interface is accessible out of the box to screenraders but the client installer includes an additional cofniguration file for jaws users. the chatterbox client used by for the people is not self-voicing but jaws scritps for the client are available free of chaarge from the for-the-people website. hth Doris At 01:35 PM 12/20/2010, you wrote: If I may be so bold as to say they have a very capable tech support team over there if you run into any problems regarding the site itself. *grin* and not without cause. g Just thought that pointing out your personal interst and involvement makes things a little more objective. g and Mr. Tekkie Dave is the tech captain on the good ship vippconduit and has a good and capable hand at the helm - just as the tekkies on the other sites do on theirs, i am sure. g Any of these chat sites for the blind are great places to make friends, find support and also learn a lot about technology and other things. the vip as well as the other chat sites offer tech related events and classes on different subjects. and while we are talking about tech events and classes on the different chat sites, while not primarily a chat site, Accessible World at http://www.accessibleworld.org/ hosts regular tech and other events. It also uses the tc5 chat client. Keep on chatting, enjoying and helping each other! Doris At 04:07 PM 12/20/2010, you wrote: Nothing gets past you, we're quite proud of the site.
