Hi,

I am supposed to be a little on the paranoid side and I have had UAC turned
off for two years, Laughs! I believe it to be more of a nuisance than a

password when I leave the room. Which I do when I get up to leave the room

Well, I turned it off, I think I did than in Vista also because it was so
annoying and this last weekend I was trying to do a few things installing,
sometimes uninstalling and it was in my face all the time even at 33%.
I am usually very careful about anything e-mail that I open.

The purpose of User Account Control is more about protecting you from
yourself rather than from others. Of course if you're installing a new
program, you know the system will be changed. But if you open something
like a word processor or email client, if UAC suddenly pops up, there may be
something wrong with that program. It is definitely a personal choice
whether to use it or not. When I hear the UAC tone, I just press alt+y to
say ok. The only times it has been a hassle is on a computer where I'm
using a Dectalk Express synthesizer. Occasionally, JAWS will tell me that
the driver for the Dectalk Express can't be loaded. Then I have to press
enter to dismiss the JAWS dialog and then alt+y to accept. Then switch back
from Eloquence to the Dectalk express.

Hi Tim.

The Java Access Bridge is included in the Java installation, but you must
activate it manually.
Go to the User Account control, windows-key+u and use the button Use the
computer without a screen, and check the last checkbox before the ok
button, and press ok.
Close the UAC window, and probably you must restart your computer before it
work's.

Oops, now I understand where you were going with that. You are correct that
the term user in that context could be understand as completely apart from
the ease of access center. Thanks for the clarification and caution on
being accurate where terms of art are involved.

Han's instructions worked perfectly for my Windows 7. That does take you to

Hate that user account control, every time it seems to want to hide after

weeks and I am afraid to turn it off but why does it default to no, then
give me two places where Jaws says nothing at all and then let me get to the
yes button. I nearly went in and turned it completely off today but not
quite that brave, still it is annoying especially since it defaults to no
instead of yes. There it goes again.

Hi Hans,

Your instructions were great! I then found a Java web page dedicated to
Access Bridge. After reading what Access Bridge does, I wonder how I
survived without it all this time. I find it most strange that JAWS does
not make an automated check, and if Access Bridge is not activated, JAWS
does that itself or at least notifies the user.

Thanks very much!

For a fraction of a second at the top left of the screen like a dos screen

Now it does not speak this but it is in white text with a black background.

So it appears that JAWS 16 checks to see if the JAVA Access Bridge is

If you have java installed, press windows u. then tab to where it says use a

restart your computer and it should be setup. Make sure you have a current

I have downloaded and extracted the package from the web site with no

There is no installer, you just have to copy files from the extracted
package to the c:\Program files\JAVA\JRE71 folder.

Any help much appreciated.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Java Access Bridge

2009-06-09 Thread ROGELIO TERRAZAS
I did that by going on their web page. I first tried it by using a .exe
file. Then I tried it by using a .zip file which is the way is says in the
Jaws help menu. Going to the Jaws help menu it say to uncompress the file
and then look for a file that says Install.exe which isn't in the folder.
With the .exe file I got off the web page, it starts the installation then
it says it has been interrupted and it did not complete the installation.
Do you have any suggestions? I am using Jaws 10.0/Vista 64 Bit.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Java Access Bridge

2009-06-09 Thread Russell J. Thomas, Jr.
What this is telling you is that the basic java program is not updated on
your computer. Update the basic Java program first, then try to install the
access bridge.

Make sure that the version of java you have on your computer is the most
current version, before you attempt to install the access bridge.
