  Hi Mike,

The person who asked for the information was using Windows 7. The first
part of my response would be for XP or Windows 7 as the service runs in
both
operating systems. However, some systems start showing the icon in the
notification area when the service is told to interact with the desktop,
but
I have noticed other systems where the icon is present In the notification
area and the checkbox for interacting is not checked. The second part of
my
response was specific to Windows 7.

  Take care.

Hello,

Here are a couple things that you might need to do.

The first thing is to allow the Microsoft antimalware service to
interact
with the desktop. The second thing is to set to icon to always show in
  the
notification area.

Setting the service to interact with the desktop:

1. Use Windows key and type services.msc in the search box. Wait
  for
services to open, but you might need to use Alt+tab to move into the
services window if JAWS loses focus.

2. The focus should be in the tree view structure. Press tab key
to
move to the list of services.

3. Press the letter M until you get to the Microsoft antimalware
service.

4. Bring up the properties by using Alt+enter key or by pressing
the
application key and choosing properties from the menu. Focus will be in
  the
general page of the properties.

5. Use CTRL+tab key to move to the Log on page.

6. Use tab key to find a checkbox that says allow service to
  interact
with desktop and check it with spacebar if it is not checked.

7. Use tab key and press spacebar or enter key on the Apply button
  if
there is one or on the OK button.

8. Close the services by using Alt+f4.

The icon should show up in your notification area after doing those
steps.

Allowing the icon to always show in the notification area

1. Use Windows key with B to move to the notification area. If
you
hear notification shevron button then press spacebar.

2. Use the up arrow key to the customize menu choice and press
  enter
key.

3. Use tab key until you hear Microsoft Security Client user
interface. Use up or down arrow keys and select the choice for show
  icon
for notifications, although, it might be the first choice.

4. Use tab key to the OK button and press spacebar to accept the
choice.

Take care.

Hi Marilyn,

Perhaps my description made it sound harder than it is. It is really just a
matter of finding the applicable radio button, tabbing to a list of items

tab to. On my system, I had a quarantined item and some items that were

If you want to just make sure that your system is being protected then go
into the system tray with JAWS key and function key 11 and use down arrow
key to find the icon that gives the status for the antivirus protection.
You should hear that your system is protected. If you hear that your system

scan. You can just tab three times and use the link that simulates a double

Hello,

Here are a couple things that you might need to do.

The first thing is to allow the Microsoft antimalware service to interact
with the desktop. The second thing is to set to icon to always show in the
notification area.

Setting the service to interact with the desktop:

1. Use Windows key and type services.msc in the search box. Wait for
services to open, but you might need to use Alt+tab to move into the
services window if JAWS loses focus.

2. The focus should be in the tree view structure. Press tab key to
move to the list of services.

3. Press the letter M until you get to the Microsoft antimalware
service.

4. Bring up the properties by using Alt+enter key or by pressing the
application key and choosing properties from the menu. Focus will be in the
general page of the properties.

5. Use CTRL+tab key to move to the Log on page.

6. Use tab key to find a checkbox that says allow service to interact
with desktop and check it with spacebar if it is not checked.

7. Use tab key and press spacebar or enter key on the Apply button if
there is one or on the OK button.

8. Close the services by using Alt+f4.

The icon should show up in your notification area after doing those steps.

Allowing the icon to always show in the notification area

1. Use Windows key with B to move to the notification area. If you
hear notification shevron button then press spacebar.

2. Use the up arrow key to the customize menu choice and press enter
key.

3. Use tab key until you hear Microsoft Security Client user
interface. Use up or down arrow keys and select the choice for show icon
for notifications, although, it might be the first choice.

4. Use tab key to the OK button and press spacebar to accept the
choice.

Take care.

MSSE History:

1. Open MSSE.

2. Locate the home button. Right arrow twice to the history button.
Press spacebar.

3. Tab once. You will be in a group of three radio buttons. The top one
is View All Items, the second one is View Quarantined and the third
one is View Allowed Items. Up arrowing to the one you want will
highlight it.

4. If you route Jaws to PC, you can then look at the status bar below the
group of radio buttons and see whether there are any items depending on
the radio button you selected.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Hi Mike,

The Microsoft Antimalware service is the real-time protection or back end
service of Microsoft Security Essentials. It use to be part of Windows
Defender, which is turned off when Microsoft Security Essentials is
installed but the service is still used by the latter. MSSECES.EXE is the
executable for the user interface or front end of Microsoft Security
Essentials. Although the Microsoft antimalware service was used by Windows
Defender, it is now the service for Microsoft Essentials which includes
antivirus protection. Malwarebytes antimalware is a program developed by
Malwarebytes Corporation used for protection against various kinds of
spyware and other malicious code but it is not an antivirus program.

Take care.

The first thing is to allow the Microsoft antimalware service to interact

  2. The focus should be in the tree view structure. Press tab key to

  3. Press the letter M until you get to the Microsoft antimalware

  4. Bring up the properties by using Alt+enter key or by pressing the

the

  5. Use CTRL+tab key to move to the Log on page.

  6. Use tab key to find a checkbox that says allow service to
interact

  7. Use tab key and press spacebar or enter key on the Apply button
if
there is one or on the OK button.

  8. Close the services by using Alt+f4.

The icon should show up in your notification area after doing those steps.

Allowing the icon to always show in the notification area

  1. Use Windows key with B to move to the notification area. If you

  2. Use the up arrow key to the customize menu choice and press

  3. Use tab key until you hear Microsoft Security Client user

icon
for notifications, although, it might be the first choice.

  4. Use tab key to the OK button and press spacebar to accept the
  choice.

Re: [JAWS-Users] MSE history

2011-02-23 Thread Lisa belville
Hi. I'm using JAWS 10, so the following may not work exactly depending on
the JAWS version.

You may not see anything because MSE doesn't show anything in the history
unless MSE detects something.

I tab to history, press enter and then tab again.

JAWS says View the list of following items that Security essentials
detected as potentially harmful.

My version of JAWS doesn't show this, but there's a list of check boxes for
buttons. The choices are:
All detected items, Quarantined items, and allowed items. Use the down
arrow to read and select the option; it's checked automatically as soon as
it's arrowed to.

this is when I route JAWS to PC. There's a table listing the item, the
recommended action and the alert level.

The list you get would depend on which option you check and what, if
anything MSE found.

It's been a while since I've had any items listed, but I believe you route
JAWS to PC and then left click on the item. Either that or you click on the
detected item column in the table I mentioned above.

Lisa

Re: [JAWS-Users] MSE history

2011-02-23 Thread Brian Lee
Hello,

I am using JAWS 12 with Windows 7 64-bit and an up-to-date Microsoft
Essentials program. I am able to get history information quite well.

Although identified as buttons, the choices like home, update, history, and
others are really treated as page tabs.
The graphics are near the top of the window just under the status that says
your computer is protected.
You can use CTRL+Tab key to switch pages and eventually get to history.
You can also use tab key until you find any of the following controls and
then use right arrow key to find history: Home, update, settings, help, and
additional help. Of course, if you use tab key and find the history choice
then using right arrow is unnecessary.
After labeling, the history choice will be identified by JAWS as history,
but if you route JAWS to PC and read the current button, JAWS says
Summarize view of the items detected in previous scans and the actions that
were taken.

If you tab from the history button, you will find a group of radio buttons.
Use up and down arrow keys, but if you choose all detected items then tab
to the list view of those items. Use down or up arrow key in the list to
review items found that the program considered malicious. With focus on an
item in the list, use tab key to move to a read-only box that gives
information about the item. In that box, such things as category,
description and recommended action are given for your review. Continue to
use down arrow in the read-only box to find a list of files associated with
the item selected in the list. Move back to the list and choose another
item. Each time an item is selected in the list, you can tab to the
read-only box that contains information about the given item.

If you tab past the read-only box, you will find a button for deleting the
history.

If you tab back to the group of radio buttons where you chose to view all
detected items, use down arrow key and you will find quaranteened items.
Use tab from that selection to find a list of items that the program moved
to quaranteen. Use tab to move to the read-only box for information about
the item you select in the list. use tab to move to the Remove all
button.

Use tab key to move back to the group of radio buttons and use down arrow to
find allowed items. If you have allowed any then tab to the list of items
you allowed. If you move back to the radio buttons group and use down arrow
from the choice for viewing allowed items, the next three times you use down
arrow you will basically get a description of what each of the first three
items did.

Take care.

If you move back to the radio buttons group and use down arrow
from the choice for viewing allowed items, the next three times you use down
arrow you will basically get a description of what each of the first three
items did.

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] MSE history

2011-02-23 Thread Brian Lee
Hi Marilyn,

Perhaps my description made it sound harder than it is. It is really just a
matter of finding the applicable radio button, tabbing to a list of items
and selecting one and reading information about it in the next box that you
tab to. On my system, I had a quarantined item and some items that were
found that I had deleted, so perhaps that is why they showed in the history.
I am not sure that the various controls will show if there are no items in
the history.

If you want to just make sure that your system is being protected then go
into the system tray with JAWS key and function key 11 and use down arrow
key to find the icon that gives the status for the antivirus protection.
You should hear that your system is protected. If you hear that your system
is potentially unprotected, it might be that the program wants you to do a
scan. You can just tab three times and use the link that simulates a double
left mouse button click to bring up the program. Choose to do a quick scan,
which only takes a few minutes. When the scan finishes, go back into the
notification area using insert and F11 and arrow down. You will likely find
that your system is being protected.

If by chance you find that there is no icon in your system tray then it
might be that the Microsoft anti malware service needs to be allowed to
interact with your desktop. I have had a couple systems where that was the
case. Let me know if that happens to be the situation and I can give you
steps for enabling the interaction.

Sorry if it seemed really confusing. Sometimes, we make things harder than
they really are in actuality.

Take care.

Hi Lisa,

I am not sure, but perhaps nothing will show in the history unless specific
actions on items have been taken. It might be due to an earlier version of
JAWS, but the dialog box seems to pretty well follow Windows standards and
the controls seem to be in good tabular order. I will have to clear items
from the different categories in my history to find out if the controls
still are showing in the dialog box when the program has nothing to report.

Take care.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] MSE history

 Hello,

I am using JAWS 12 with Windows 7 64-bit and an up-to-date Microsoft
Essentials program. I am able to get history information quite well.

Although identified as buttons, the choices like home, update, history,
 and
others are really treated as page tabs.
The graphics are near the top of the window just under the status that
 says
 your computer is protected.
You can use CTRL+Tab key to switch pages and eventually get to history.
You can also use tab key until you find any of the following controls and
then use right arrow key to find history: Home, update, settings, help,
 and
additional help. Of course, if you use tab key and find the history
 choice
then using right arrow is unnecessary.
After labeling, the history choice will be identified by JAWS as
 history,
but if you route JAWS to PC and read the current button, JAWS says
Summarize view of the items detected in previous scans and the actions
 that
 were taken.

If you tab from the history button, you will find a group of radio
 buttons.
Use up and down arrow keys, but if you choose all detected items then
 tab
to the list view of those items. Use down or up arrow key in the list to
review items found that the program considered malicious. With focus on
 an
item in the list, use tab key to move to a read-only box that gives
information about the item. In that box, such things as category,
description and recommended action are given for your review. Continue to
use down arrow in the read-only box to find a list of files associated
 with
the item selected in the list.

Use tab to move to the read-only box for information about
the item you select in the list. use tab to move to the Remove all
 button.

Use tab key to move back to the group of radio buttons and use down arrow
 to
find allowed items. If you have allowed any then tab to the list of items
you allowed. If you move back to the radio buttons group and use down
 arrow
from the choice for viewing allowed items, the next three times you use
 down
arrow you will basically get a description of what each of the first three
 items did.

 Take care.

 Becky and others,

When you tab down once under history you get to a series of various
 checkbox
items which you can down arrow through and read but still they are not
accessible using either the spacebar, routing jaws to PC and left mouse
clicking, or the enter key. So, if any of you have additional information
 we
would love to here from you.

Hi All,

I recently installed MSE and this morning was the first scheduled scan.
Where do I find the history to see if any viruses were found? I am running
XP Home Jaws 1011. All help will be graciously appreciated. Take care.

If any viruses were detected during a scan, you will be presented with a
dialog box that offers an option to learn more details about the threat and
a Clean Computer option to remove it. If this happens, the virus will be
listed on the History page which you can access by tabbing to the Home
button, then right arrowing to the History button and hitting Space. If no
items are listed, it means your scan was clean. MSE does not maintain a
scan results log like AV or some other anti-virus programs.
