Re: [JAWS-Users] Browsers and background audio
Wish there was a Google Chrome add-on available that would automatically toggle the autoplay feature of all Flash and Html 5 web players to off. If you go to a page that you do want to have the web player autoplay function enabled, press a shortcut key combination and it would be enabled for that visit only. Guess someone out there will get around to creating such an add-on like this one day. Would make surfing some sites with JAWS so much easier (And quieter.) Re: [JAWS-Users] Browsers and background audio
I'm not sure about other browsers, but Internet Explorer settings have a section for multimedia on the advanced tab. You will have the option to play videos or not. You would obviously press the spacebar to select not to play them. Sorry I can't help for Firefox, Chrome, Safari or other browsers, but I would imagine that other browsers must have the same type of options. Good luck. Re: [JAWS-Users] browsers
How difficult is it to change from IE 11 to Erome? What does one have to learn? I always feel intimidated by new programs, particularly when they have, for so long, not been very accessible. Are the keyboard commands diffouent in Chrome, for example? I had it set up as my main browser but felt more comfortable with IE 11. However, if Chrome is faster, and "%picularly if IE is going to be phased out, I'd like to start getting used to it. Cheers! Tim. I am also an old computer user. By that I don't mean that I use an old computer, although that is also true. But I mean, that I am an old blind man who finds new things daunting. I only know how to use IE as my browser. I do not do very many things with it except go to web sites and read what I find there. I do keep a list of my favorites so I can go back to a website quickly. Other than that, not much. So how does one learn the use of the Chrome browser? I don't even know how to start a chrome browser on my computer, if I had one there. Can you give me a little guidance? Re: [JAWS-Users] browsers
The main reason why I find myself going back to using IE is the notification bar. A lot of messages appear their while surfing the web. If JAWS isn't automatically reading those message alerts, then you maybe missing out on something very important. JAWS use to work very well with the FireFox browser notification bar messages. Recently I've noticed the alert for saving the login info isn't working with the [alt]+[r] key anymore. Very frustrating for I want to use FireFox exclusively, but the latest build of JAWS 18 has broken the notification bar script. Hope they fix it with the next release. Re: [JAWS-Users] browsers
Google Chrome tends to work better with later versions of JAWS. Nonetheless, which browser is best is rather an individual site use case, depending on each Web site you visit. Thus, it is a good idea to at least install other useful Web browsers, of which Firefox and Google Chrome are two, and try to give each of them a brief spin before deciding whether or not to change your efault browser. If you don't want to change, you don't have to. It is also a good idea to try to have a demo version of a later JAWS if you';re using an earlier edition, or to have an alternative screen reader. -Original Message- From: Judy Sent: Saturday, May 13, 2017 5:55 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] browsers Hi, I neglected to tell in my first post that I am still using Jaws 14, with no current plans to upgrade. I agree with Justin here, although I find that, especially with Jaws 18, Jaws now looses focus in Firefox much more often than used to be the case.
