Re: [JAWS-Users] question about installing windows servis pack 3
As long as its from Microsoft and no third party site. Go for it. it will take some time and will take even a long boot up time. That is where most make it fail. Thinking it stopped when it didn't and they reboot the system. now boot comes up but the update fails. So just let it do its thing and walk away for a while. check it so often and once done. you won't even know its in there. I would install it, but only if you missed any of the SP2 updates, as SP 3 is basically all the SP2 updates cobbled together in one massive download, and not much else. -- From: Mich [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, August 26, 2008 6:48 AM To: JAWS-Users-List @jaws-users.com JAWS-Users-List@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] question about installing windows servis pack 3 Hi all. today I got one of those little pop up balloons that say you have a windows update. Re: [JAWS-Users] question about installing windows servis pack 3
Hi Mich, While I agree that installing most Windows Updates are essential to running a safe and well functioning machine, that's not always the case. Although, I'm sure that the release of service pack 3 into the mix was done for a reason, not simply as a convenience for it's users. After all, when have you ever known good old Bill to do anything for his customers. I'm sure there are updates that are not included in the previous updates in that service pack, as when you go to update your computer, the size of the service pack is only something like 17 megabytes, not the 200 or something the entire pack is from the download site. This essentially means that there are updates, assuming you've kept your computer relatively up to date until now, over and above those that have already been released. As you've seen, and I can confirm this on my system, and a few others I've installed for people, I and those other people have had no problems running service pack 3, and have found no distinction between one and the other. Now, and I need you to listen to this next part closely, Mich old friend, this is your computer we're talking about. Get me? Your computer has demonstrated that if it can go wrong, it will, and I'm not putting you or your computer down, well, I may be, a little, smile, but even you have to admit that you haven't had the best of luck with a computer, and that's a harsh truth we have to face in making this decision, so you have to ask yourself, if you're prepared for the possible problems that may arise out of running service pack 3, and you better make sure you have a back up plan, should things go wrong for you. On the other hand, you may find that service pack 3 runs perfectly fine on your computer, and you can't even think of what you were so afraid of. Well, until you have another problem with Outlook Express. LOL. In any case, you're the only one that can make this decision, but what ever decision you make, I'll be here if you need me. You have my contact info. Good luck.
