Yes definitely- but I'm hoping that deleting the user settings as described
and applying the other steps will allow me to go back and create the user
settings I like after deleting the old user settings. If that works- good :)

Switching to the default settings by insert-space-z fixes the problem, at
least temporarily.
But it still does not answer the question WHY this is happening. Running
JAWS in default mode means that every keystroke is spoken and the volume is
very slow.

I don't like having the links killed. Here is what VFO wrote back today. I'm
trying out changing to running JAWS in the factory default mode.

Cher

Hello Cher,

Thank you for contacting VFOT Technical Support. Please ensure all Windows
updates, including Office updates, are installed and applied. If the issue
persists at that point, please try running JAWS in the factory default mode
to determine if the issue still occurs. To do this, press INSERT+SPACE
followed by Z. This keystroke is a toggle, so pressing it again will disable
default mode when finished.

If the issue does not occur when running JAWS in default mode, you will need
to remove user settings. To do this:
1. If using Windows 7:
A. Navigate to Start>All Programs>JAWS (version number)>Explore JAWS>Explore
My Settings.
B. Highlight all the files in this folder and delete them.
2. If using Windows 8 or above:
A. Navigate to your Start screen, type the word "utilities", and select the
Utilities option populated for the version number being used.
B. Select the option for Explore User Settings.
C. Highlight all files in this folder and delete them.

If the issue still occurs when running it in Default mode, please run a
/type repair on JAWS, as follows:

1. Navigate to the JAWS 2018 installer file. If you don't have it, you may
download it from http://www.freedomscientific.com/Downloads/JAWS
2. With the file highlighted, press SHIFT+F10, or hold down the SHIFT key
and right click it.
3. Select the option that says "Copy as Path".
4. Press WINDOWS+R to invoke the Run dialog.
5. In the edit field, press CTRL+V to paste the path, then a space at the
end of this string.
6. Write the following text exactly (excluding the quotes): "/type repair"
7. Press ENTER or click OK.
At the end of the repair, JAWS will prompt you to reboot the machine.

If this does not resolve the issue, set Outlook back to default views, as
follows:

1. Close Outlook.
2. Press WINDOWS+R to invoke the Run dialog.
3. In the edit field, type the following without the quotes "outlook.exe
/cleanviews".
4. Press ENTER.
5. If the issue persists, repeat steps 1 and 2 above.
6. In the edit field, type the following without the quotes "outlook.exe
/resetnavpane".
7. Press ENTER.

If your issue is still not resolved after having tried all suggestions
above, please call our Support hotline at (727)803-8600 for further
troubleshooting over the phone. We are available Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM

I'm running the latest JAWS 2018 with Microsoft Outlook 2016 from Office 365.
I haven't encountered this issue, however.

I occasionally receive messages that do contain nested tables, but not often.

Those affected should try to identify the circumstances in which this occurs.
Until VFO can reproduce the problem themselves, they can't fix it.

persists at that point, please try running JAWS in the factory default mode to
determine if the issue still occurs. To do this, press INSERT+SPACE followed by
Z. This keystroke is a toggle, so pressing it again will disable default mode
when finished.

If the issue does not occur when running JAWS in default mode, you will need to
remove user settings. To do this:
1. If using Windows 7:
A. Navigate to Start>All Programs>JAWS (version number)>Explore JAWS>Explore My
Settings.

If the issue still occurs when running it in Default mode, please run a /type
repair on JAWS, as follows:

1. Navigate to the JAWS 2018 installer file. If you don't have it, you may
download it from http://www.freedomscientific.com/Downloads/JAWS
2. With the file highlighted, press SHIFT+F10, or hold down the SHIFT key and
right click it.
3. Select the option that says "Copy as Path".
4. Press WINDOWS+R to invoke the Run dialog.
5. In the edit field, press CTRL+V to paste the path, then a space at the end
of this string.

If your issue is still not resolved after having tried all suggestions above,
please call our Support hotline at (727)803-8600 for further troubleshooting
over the phone. We are available Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM EST.

Hi. I'm still having the vexing and annoying issue of the latest issue of
JAWS periodically changing how it reads Outlook messages (windows-7, Outlook
2010). JAWS will be doing a great job of reading a message, then, for no
apparent reason, when I bring up the next message, read all kinds of info:
"Table 1, row 1, nesting level 3." etc. I have to close Outlook and,
sometimes, JAWS and bring them back for JAWS and Outlook to function
normally again.

I'm doing nothing to cause this to happen except bringing up the next e-mail
message.

This does not happen with every message, but it is repeatable, in that if I
read e-mail long enough it will, inevitably, happen.

Frankly, this is unacceptable. It would be helpful if the VFO folks who
monitor this list could at least acknowledge the problem. I'm happy to spend
time on the phone with VFO tech support so they can see the problem. I know
I'm not the only one who is experiencing this issue.

Thanks.

John, a frustrated JAWS user.

PS For whatever reason, this does not happen at work with JAWS Professional
and Outlook 2013.

Thanks.

hello;
a couple of my clients were experiencing this behavior,
so, I tried the following;

1, alt+f=file,

2, t=options,

3, t=trust centre,

4, tab and enter on trust centre settings,

5, up arrow until you hear email security,

6, now tab and check the box,
read all standard email in plain text,

for my clients the issue seems to have stopped.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] still having issue with Outlook and HTML messages

Thanks.

One workaround is to put the message into IE. You do this by pressing alt+h, a,
v. that is, alt and h together, release, then a and release, then v.

Yes. Only solution I've found is to do a JAWS+Windows+F4 restart. Something in
JAWS is getting confused, cluttered, or forgetful.

Does it begin reading everything in tables mode? If so, there are probably a
lot of us who have your issue.

Yes, there are. I brought it to VFO's attention by email and on the phone a
month or two ago without getting any good answer or promises for a fix. As
Dave urged, I hope everyone experiencing it will notify VFO.

John,

I'm having the same issue with latest (and a couple builds before that) and
Windows 7. My email client is OE, but same issue with html messages. Only
solution is to use JAWS+Windows+F4 to dump and restart JAWS. Then it's fine.
Happens a couple times a day.
