Hi all,

On a friends desktop running jaws17 latest when he's on the desktop it is
saying checked after each item is highlighted.
Wondering how to turn this off?

you did not specify which version, but try the 2003 keystrokes. I know
at least in 2010 the old keystrokes still work.

Hi friends,

When using Microsoft Excel, one of the columns is not wide enough and I
get a message to tell me this when I navigate to it.
Is there a way to auto-size the column as I used to be able to do this
with ctrl+space to highlight the whole column and then use the format
menu in older versions to select cell and width and auto select.

Steve.

Hi Adrian,

The DEFAULT.JDF goes into the ENU folder, & that should be the only DEFAULT
.JDF file in the ENU folder. As far as that backup file goes, try cutting
it out & put it somewhere you can access it, like in your Documents folder,
in case you need it, & see what happens with it gone out of the ENU folder.
Take care.

My JAWS dictionary isn't speaking the words as I've previously set. There
are several possible reasons why, but maybe someone could resolve two
questions for me. Should the default.jdf file go in "my settings" or "shared

If you had your Freedom Scientific or Jaws settings backed up to an external

Not the shortcut, but the name of the folder/area you want is programs and
features. By the time I'm halfway through typing "programs," it comes up as
the third or fourth item in the Windows search window.

1. Open Windows Explorer with Win key+e.
2. Press alt-v for view menu.
3. right-arrow once, then arrow down to folder options. Press enter.
4. Control-tab once, then tab once.
5. You land in a tree containing eighteen items. The item you want is "Use

suggest pressing home, then arrowing up two or three times.
6. Tab to OK.

2, when the cmd.exe opens,
Type in,

3, now type in,

Press enter,

long process. Also another way is to go to Speech History to get the last

Hello, try the following;

Open command prompt with admin rights
So, type cmd from the start menu search box, or type cmd within the run
dialog.

Once the cmd.exe opens,
Type in,
Tasklist and press enter.

Now to generate a copy of the list,
Type in,

tasklist>tasklist.txt
note, make sure, you use, the grater sign between the tasklist and
tasklist.txt
now you can exit from cmd.exe.

once you do this, go to, desktop,
enter on owners name,
example,
Michael,
You will land into the owner's folder,
Now press the letter t=tasklist.txt

Hope this helps.

Hello Kimber,

You need to use the English UK option in the Locale combo box found in the
format cells dialog box. When you change the Locale to English UK you can
then find the date format you are wanting in the Type list box. You should
select the column or range of cells first. Otherwise, you will need to
either change it each time through the dialog box or by using paste special
to apply the format.

imposing custom formatting in a specific column of a spread sheet? I am
using excel 2010 if that makes any difference.

Thanks for any help.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Excel

2016-06-17 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Steve,

You can use Alt followed by H followed by O and then use down arrow key to
the Automatic Column Width menu item and press enter key. You can still
select a column by using CTRL with spacebar.

Take care.

Hi friends,

When using Microsoft Excel, one of the columns is not wide enough and I get
a message to tell me this when I navigate to it.
Is there a way to auto-size the column as I used to be able to do this with
ctrl+space to highlight the whole column and then use the format menu in
older versions to select cell and width and auto select.

Steve.

you did not specify which version, but try the 2003 keystrokes. I know
at least in 2010 the old keystrokes still work.

My hard drive failed and I've needed to reinstall all applications. JAWS is

Re: [JAWS-Users] Audio Files in Excell

2016-06-17 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Nicole,

Below is some information about adding an audio file to an Excel worksheet.
The first set of steps has to do with adding the Object command to the
insert tab. The second set of steps has to do with adding an audio file and
the third set of steps has to do with playing the audio. I hope there is
something in this info that you can use.

Take care.

Adding the Object Command to the Insert Tab

In Excel 2013 you need to add the Object command to a new group under the
Insert tab if it is not already found under the insert tab of the ribbon.

1. Use Alt+F followed by Alt+T.
2. Press C to move to the Customize ribbon category.
3. Tab to the "Choose commands from" combo box and press A until you
get to the All Commands item.
4. In the Available Commands list press O until you find Object.
5. Use tab key and move past the New button. In the combo box Main
Tabs should be selected.
6. Tab to the tree view and select Insert. Open it with right arrow
key if necessary.
7. Tab to the New Group button and press spacebar.
8. Shift+tab back to the available commands list and make sure Object
is selected.
9. Tab to the Add button and use spacebar.
10. Use OK and go back into the worksheet.

Add the audio file

1. Go under the Insert tab and press spacebar on the Object item.
2. Use CTRL+Tab to move to the Create from File tab.
3. If you want to use an icon then tab to the Display as icon checkbox
and check it. At that time you will get a button for changing the icon if
you want a different one. There is also a checkbox to link to the file.
4. Use the browse button and find the audio file to insert.
5. Use the Insert button and then the OK button.

Play the File

1. Use Alt with CTRL and O, and then press enter key on the Button
Control to select the object.
2. Use the application key and pick the Packager Shell Object menu
item.
3. In the submenu press enter key on Activate Content.
4. When asked if you want to open the file answer Yes.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS dictionary

My JAWS dictionary isn't speaking the words as I've previously set. There are
several possible reasons why, but maybe someone could resolve two questions for
me. Should the default.jdf file go in "my settings" or "shared settings" in the
ENU folder? Also, if a backup file with the .jdf extension is in the same
folder, could that be the culprit?

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws saying checked for items on desktop?

2016-06-17 Thread Adrian Spratt
Adam,

The following steps apply to win7. (You don't specify which OS is involved.) I
can't claim credit, but I'm afraid I can't recall where I obtained this
information.

1. Open Windows Explorer with Win key+e.
2. Press alt-v for view menu.
3. right-arrow once, then arrow down to folder options. Press enter.
4. Control-tab once, then tab once.
5. You land in a tree containing eighteen items. The item you want is "Use
checkboxes to select items." It is an off/on control. It's near the bottom, so
I suggest pressing home, then arrowing up two or three times.
6. Tab to OK.

[JAWS-Users] Custom formatting a date in excel 2010

2016-06-17 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

I need to enter a date in an excel spreadsheet in the following
format: -mm-dd. But each time I try to enter it that way, excel
reformats it like this, mm/dd/. I need the info formatted just as
I described even down to dashes instead of slashes, but there is no
such formatting choice in the reformat cells dialog box. Is there some
method for imposing custom formatting in a specific column of a spread
sheet? I am using excel 2010 if that makes any difference.

Thanks for any help.
