While I was not sleeping last night it crossed what I call my mind a couple
of ideas for future recordings.

Version 5 could cover creating a batch file that would allow you to create
your backups just by hitting enter on it since all of the presets will be
hard coded. Version 6 could cover modifying it to run from the virtual
environment. That way again all you would need to do is hit enter on it.

Now this is getting up there a bit, but if there is an interest I can sure
record my thoughts. Note: the last might have to be recorded on my Victor
Reader although that is not set in stone. It's just a possibility.

Let me know folks if those are things of interest to anybody out there.

[JAWS-Users] MS Word text moving on its own

2016-07-20 Thread wayne smith
I need some of you big brains! I have an MS Word 2007 doc that is about 250
pages long. At some points when I write the text sometimes it appears in
the middle of a different paragraph from the one I am working on. This
happens often but it seems to be inconsistent. I am using JAWS 15. Any
thoughts would be welcome.

Hi,
A resounding yes! You can do that in Firefox just as much as within IE. I
wanted to tell everyone that I am using the portable version of the latest
version of Firefox, running from my flash drive, and it works just as well
as the installed version of Firefox for what I do at least. I was able to
play YouTube videos with it and everything. Nothing is on your computer. All
favorites, settings, and everything else is saved on your flash drive, and
you can use this on any computer if you have your flash drive with you.
Remember that Firefox is the best browser for using Google Docs and Google
Sheets. You can use Google Drive by itself on any browser. Take care, I was
just so excited that the portable version works just as well, because I am
using a tiny computer with a SSD drive of 32 gigs, so I only have so much
room. I am also running a PDF reader portable, so I do not have to have that
installed on my computer either.

A good link with all portable software is:

I believe that is right. There are hundreds of accessible apps on there that
you can install to your flash drive and run the program from there.

Yes you can sure copy like you described with Firefox.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Selecting Text in Firefox

2016-07-20 Thread Mike B.
Hi Kelby,

Firefox makes an Add-on called, Copy as Plain Text, that you can install.
Removes formatting from copied text.

About this Add-on
Have you ever copy & pasted something into your
email
 or
office
program and been annoyed that the text formatting (bold, font size, etc)
came with it? Don't you wish you could just copy the text itself, without
having
to copy it, paste it into a plain text editor, then copy it again? This
extension gives you an option to copy text without the formatting. And
unlike the
keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+V), you can even customize how it will copy &
paste.

Take care.

Kimsan,

In MS Word 2010 that command is control-alt-v. Is it different in Word 2016,
which I think you use?

Kelby, I'm sorry my post was so short, but I was rushing. This ought to work
for you. As Kimsan explained, go into JAWS quick settings with JAWS key+v
and locate "virtual cursor options," which you did.

Now, arrow down to "Select and copy..." It seems your setting is the
default, "from virtual cursor."

tab once to land in an explanation of this setting and what your options
are. You may need to switch to the JAWS cursor to read this text. Then
return to the PC cursor and shift-tab back into the choice field.

In JAWS quick settings, you rotate through the options by pressing the
spacebar. In this case, there are only two: virtual cursor or "full content
using screen highlight." It's this latter setting that you want.

At this point, you can simply save the setting by pressing escape, as I just
confirmed.

I think you'll find this setting is a very mixed blessing. For most
purposes, I've gone back to the virtual cursor option. But only experience
will show you which works best and in which situations.

I've found Kimsan's alternative solution, control-alt-p or control-alt-v,
works best for me. It doesn't involve going in and out of JAWS quick
settings and finding the "copy and select" option every time.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Selecting Text in Firefox

2016-07-20 Thread Adrian Spratt
Kimsan,

In MS Word 2010 that command is control-alt-v. Is it different in Word 2016,
which I think you use?

Kelby, I'm sorry my post was so short, but I was rushing. This ought to work
for you. As Kimsan explained, go into JAWS quick settings with JAWS key+v and
locate "virtual cursor options," which you did.

Now, arrow down to "Select and copy..." It seems your setting is the default,
"from virtual cursor."

tab once to land in an explanation of this setting and what your options are.
You may need to switch to the JAWS cursor to read this text. Then return to the
PC cursor and shift-tab back into the choice field.

For most purposes,
I've gone back to the virtual cursor option. But only experience will show you
which works best and in which situations.

I've found Kimsan's alternative solution, control-alt-p or control-alt-v, works
best for me. It doesn't involve going in and out of JAWS quick settings and
finding the "copy and select" option every time.

[JAWS-Users] Address Book VS. Contacts List In Outlook 2016?

2016-07-20 Thread Tom Behler
Hello, everyone.

Does anyone know the difference between the address book, and the contacts
list features of Outlook 2016?

I currently have my most-used Outlook contacts in the address book, accessed
via control shift B.

Some have suggested to me that these contacts should be in the contacts
list, which is accessed via control 3.

Are there advantages and/or disadvantages of each list?

Thanks as always!

Is it possible to select and copy text with JAWS while in any non-IE

Yes, it's a proper form of text formatting where Word puts extra visual
space between paragraphs, and a smaller space between lines within the
paragraph. It's defined as pts, which stands for points. In the paragraph
dialogue, you will see points above and points below. The number varies with
font choice. Note that in days of yore, people used to put two returns
between paragraphs to add that wanted blank white space. But that can end up
causing blank lines where you don't want them, as in at the top of a page.
So, the blank space you are seeing is created by Word, and Jaws would indeed
recognize a blank space if you were to press the return key multiple times.

Hope that helps.

Jean

Hi Norma,

Do you know if this blank line that you are not detecting is only occurring
between paragraphs? If so, then there is a setting that is telling Word to
either automatically insert an extra blank line after a hard Return, or the
setting might have something to do with the height of that blank line
between paragraphs.

I can never remember where these changes reside, so you can start by looking
in places like the paragraph settings, or in the style settings.

Good Luck! These things drive me crazy!

Hi list,

I'm using Word 2010 with Jaws 16.0.4468. I had a sighted person proofread a
document and they are seeing blank lines in the document which I cannot
detect using Jaws. For example, with Jaws I read

This is line 5 of the document.
This is line 6 of the page.

So, of course, I assume there is no blank line between the 2 lines of text.
But the sighted person says there is a blank line there, that is what he
sees.

Forgive my frustration, but how in the hell am I supposed to create
documents like this? I hope this is just a setting I need to adjust, but it
seems so fundamental that a mere setting wouldn't cover something so
critical to composition.

I'm hoping someone can enlighten me. Meanwhile, I'm off for a mental health
break. Or breakdown, whatever comes first.

Thanks,
Norma
