 I've dug a little deeper into the source repository. it looks like the [Util.replaceMacro|https://github.com/jenkinsci/jenkins/blob/master/core/src/main/java/hudson/Util.java#L146] method is being invoked correctly with the [provided environment|https://github.com/jenkinsci/config-file-provider-plugin/blob/master/src/main/java/org/jenkinsci/lib/configprovider/model/ConfigFileManager.java#L120]; however, it appears that the environment is not begin being propagated from higher context, and is instead being explicitly [provided as null|https://github.com/jenkinsci/config-file-provider-plugin/blob/master/src/main/java/org/jenkinsci/plugins/configfiles/buildwrapper/ManagedFileUtil.java#L57].I don't know enough about the way jenkins pipelines are implemented to assess if this omission is intentional, due to an alternative data channel and / or design limitation, or if it is a bug ...Is use of the configFileProvider within declarative pipelines supported, or should this be re-characterized as an feature enhancement?(I've also removed the 'credentials-binding-plugin' and 'token-macro-plugin' components, as they have been verified in parallel and don't appear to be the root cause.)

 Hi, When after upgrade the p4-plugin from 1.8.4 to 1.9.6, we found a lot of String: "MissingFieldException: No field 'charset' found in class 'org.jenkinsci.plugins.p4.tagging.TagAction'" apears in the dump heap with a GC root to hudson.model.Hudson, and cannot be released in a short time, which results in a dramatically heap size increasement (There are many jobs use p4-plugin in our jenkins).   Compared with p4-plguin 1.8.4 and 1.9.6, the field 'charset' in org.jenkinsci.plugins.p4.tagging.TagAction was removed. Do you have any ideas how to stop generating MissingFieldException: No field 'charset' found in class 'org.jenkinsci.plugins.p4.tagging.TagAction' everywhere? Thanks a lot

 Maybe it has something to do with host memory, I'm using a 1 gigabyte raspberry pie.Switching to a 4G PC won't cause this problem

 This simple pipeline results in values of null where the environment variables should be

 pipeline {
agent any
environment {
PROJECT = "my-project"
}

stages {
stage('Approval') {
input {
  message "Do you want to release a new version of ${env.PROJECT} to AWS (revision: ${env.GIT_COMMIT})?"
  ok "Yes, proceed"
}
steps {
  echo "Starting to deploy ${env.PROJECT}."
}
}
}
}

 Which produces the following output on approval

Do you want to release a new version of null to AWS (revision: null)?

 When a build fails, the top of the pipeline view looks like this:!image-2019-05-14-18-51-03-199.png!Conceptually, when using blue ocean, the right x takes one _up_ a stage, e.g. from a build number to the branch/PR.So, instead of using an {{x}}, we can use an up arrow :!image-2019-05-15-18-34-13-356 . png!

 I'm currently writing some integration tests with Git. I used use your tests as example suite and noticed that one test fails on my machine: https://github.com/jenkinsci/git-plugin/blob/master/src/test/java/hudson/plugins/git/extensions/impl/PreBuildMergeTest.java#L70Latest git versions are localized and so the text that is being searched for is different in my German localized git. You should remove the assertion in line 70 (or use something like {{alias git='env LANG=en_GB git'}} when using local git in your tests).

[JIRA] (JENKINS-57235) Seed job (job-dsl) runs trigger a rebuild of all multibranch pipelines branches

  Seed job (job-dsl) runs trigger a rebuild of all multibranch pipelines branches

Change By:
 Jonathan Pigrée

 I have a fully configured as code jenkins deployed in GKE using the official Helm [chart|[https://github.com/helm/charts/tree/master/stable/jenkins]] (version 0.33.1). I also use a seed job (pre-installed by the chart) which creates all the other jobs.My problem is that each time someone triggers the seed job, it triggers a branch indexing in every existing multibranch pipelines. Those branch indexing trigger a build for every branches discovered even when they were already previously discovered and build builtt .The consequence is that we get huge build spikes each time someone runs the jenkins seed. I searched the web for months for a fix but all I could find was workarounds. The latest I put in place is to install the "Basic Branch Strategy plugin" and enforce the newly added "skip initial build on first branch indexing" strategy on all my multibranch pipelines. It fixed my problem but the downside is that, my newly discovered branches stopped building automatically so the workaround isn't satisfying.From what I understood, the seed job recreates all its managed jobs every time it is run, so I guess the problem must come from there but I don't know how to confirm it.I can debug this further but I will need a bit of help (debugging tips).To me the solutions are: * Fix either the seed or the way the multibranch pipelines handles recreation. * Create a basic branch strategy which filters an initial trigger when the branch was already built before and the current commit is the same than the previous build's.I can provide further information if needed. I can even submit a fix if it is trivial/simple (I am not a Java developer). Thanks for your help!

  Re: Disable Strict Forbidden File Verification option always causes trigger

 The "Disable Strict Forbidden File Verification" feature seems to behave as expected, if you recall that every Gerrit change includes a phony "file" named "/COMMIT_MSG".  For example, with this config (below), a Gerrit patchset with source changes in both apps/atf/** and mobility_test/** will not trigger a build. Before I added "/COMMIT_MSG" to it, that same patchset did trigger a build.   Admittedly I have not tried a patchset with source changes in both Forbidden and normal files. Nor have I looked at this plugin's source code. However, I can confirm that "/COMMIT_MSG" always shows up in Gerrit's list of files changed by a patchset.

 Pipeline: Basic Steps Plugin version 2.16 added the new warnError and unstable steps and changes to catchError that Nofar Bluestein mentioned, see the 2.16 release notes for details on the specifics. See this comment on JENKINS-39203 for additional information on related issues. You need to update to Pipeline: Graph Analysis 1.10 for these steps to be visualized correctly by Blue Ocean. Should we close this issue and open more specific issues related to the request for a step to set the build result to FAILURE but continue execution and a step to set the build result to ABORTED and abort the build, or handle them as part of this ticket?

 In https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-56996 we isolated errors in PR scanning to make them not crash the scan overall.  We should isolate other errors as well. Wow. I did some digging on this and it is not particularly easy.I'd love to be able to simply catch and swallow some error locally, but if we do that it may result in jobs being deleted (or marked for deletion) simply because there was an error while reading them. I looked pretty carefully and I didn't see a way to address this safely in a small/local change.The core problem is that the code that controls how child items are created and maintained is spread across several other plugins, including folders, scm-api and branch-api.My thought is that we'll need to add a no-op {{preserve(String itemName)}} method to {{[SCMHeadObserver|https://github.com/jenkinsci/scm-api-plugin/blob/6a044fe60143278ed26f8d91b0ec1cee116617d6/src/main/java/jenkins/scm/api/SCMHeadObserver.java#L43]}}. Then we can wire through an implementation in {{[MultiBranchProject.SCMHeadObserverImpl|https://github.com/jenkinsci/branch-api-plugin/blob/ed229d8e1392645c99e5686b8bd652a14ec87f4a/src/main/java/jenkins/branch/MultiBranchProject.java#L1948]}}. Finally, we'd expose that in github-branch-source for the {{GitHubSCMSource}} to call when an error occurs.I suppose it would okay for PRs specifically to simply be deleted on {{FileNotFoundException}} specifically, but not great behavior.

 I found I was running into same issue - the groovy script worked fine when testing with the in script editor. what made it finally work for me was adding 'import jenkins.model.*' to top of script - viola all my calls with the    com.cloudbees.plugins.credentials.CredentialsProvider.lookupCredentials were working again

 Recently my Jenkins instance has been getting into a state where it's impossible to load any pages of the web interface. As far as I can tell builds continue to work. I can ping the host with no issues. But opening the jenkins URL shows loading progress but then stalls. Sometimes it hangs this way forever (at least many minutes), other times it goes to the stack trace I've pasted below.I'm not sure what causes it to get in this state. The only workaround I've found to get it working again once it gets in this state is to unload the jenkins launchd plist and re-load it. Jenkins.log doesn't show anything unusual when it's in this state that I can tell.The stack trace that sometimes appears is:javax.servlet.ServletException: org.apache.commons.jelly.JellyTagException: jar:file:/Users/Shared/Jenkins/Home/war/WEB-INF/lib/jenkins-core-1.639.jar!/hudson/model/View/index.jelly:42:43: org.apache.commons.jelly.JellyTagException: jar:file:/Users/Shared/Jenkins/Home/war/WEB-INF/lib/jenkins-core-1.639.jar!/lib/hudson/projectViewRow.jelly:35:52: java.lang.NullPointerException at org.kohsuke.stapler.jelly.JellyClassTearOff.serveIndexJelly(JellyClassTearOff.java:117) at org.kohsuke.stapler.jelly.JellyFacet.handleIndexRequest(JellyFacet.java:127) at org.kohsuke.stapler.Stapler.tryInvoke(Stapler.java:735) at org.kohsuke.stapler.Stapler.invoke(Stapler.java:876) at org.kohsuke.stapler.Stapler.tryInvoke(Stapler.java:813) at org.kohsuke.stapler.Stapler.invoke(Stapler.java:876) at org.kohsuke.stapler.Stapler.invoke(Stapler.java:649) at org.kohsuke.stapler.Stapler.service(Stapler.java:238) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:848) at org.eclipse.jetty.servlet.ServletHolder.handle(ServletHolder.java:686) at org.eclipse.jetty.servlet.ServletHandler$CachedChain.doFilter(ServletHandler.java:1494) at hudson.util.PluginServletFilter$1.doFilter(PluginServletFilter.java:132) at hudson.util.PluginServletFilter.doFilter(PluginServletFilter.java:123) at org.eclipse.jetty.servlet.ServletHandler$CachedChain.doFilter(ServletHandler.java:1482) at hudson.security.csrf.CrumbFilter.doFilter(CrumbFilter.java:49) at org.eclipse.jetty.servlet.ServletHandler$CachedChain.doFilter(ServletHandler.java:1482) at hudson.security.ChainedServletFilter$1.doFilter(ChainedServletFilter.java:84) at hudson.security.UnwrapSecurityExceptionFilter.doFilter(UnwrapSecurityExceptionFilter.java:51) at hudson.security.ChainedServletFilter$1.doFilter(ChainedServletFilter.java:87) at jenkins.security.ExceptionTranslationFilter.doFilter(ExceptionTranslationFilter.java:117) at hudson.security.ChainedServletFilter$1.doFilter(ChainedServletFilter.java:87) at org.acegisecurity.providers.anonymous.AnonymousProcessingFilter.doFilter(AnonymousProcessingFilter.java:125) at hudson.security.ChainedServletFilter$1.doFilter(ChainedServletFilter.java:87) at

 I work for the same company as Mike. I fixed the issues locally. The fixes are trivial, but making the plugin compile with the modern versions of  Jenkins and some libraries took some time. My fixes seem to work fine. I attached 3 patches.

 As of Pipeline: API 2.34, Pipeline steps are able to use the new WarningAction API to identify that some non-fatal event occurred during the execution of a step but execution continued normally. Visualizations are able to access this new action and use them to change how visualizations are displayed. See this comment on JENKINS-39203 for additional details.

 Recently my Jenkins instance has been getting into a state where it's impossible to load any pages of the web interface. As far as I can tell builds continue to work. I can ping the host with no issues. But opening the jenkins URL shows loading progress but then stalls. Sometimes it hangs this way forever (at least many minutes), other times it goes to the stack trace I've pasted below. I'm not sure what causes it to get in this state. The only workaround I've found to get it working again once it gets in this state is to unload the jenkins launchd plist and re-load it. Jenkins.log doesn't show anything unusual when it's in this state that I can tell. The stack trace that sometimes appears is: javax.servlet.ServletException: org.apache.commons.jelly.JellyTagException: jar:file:/Users/Shared/Jenkins/Home/war/WEB-INF/lib/jenkins-core-1.639.jar!/hudson/model/View/index.jelly:42:43: org.apache.commons.jelly.JellyTagException: jar:file:/Users/Shared/Jenkins/Home/war/WEB-INF/lib/jenkins-core-1.639.jar!/lib/hudson/projectViewRow.jelly:35:52: java.lang.NullPointerException at org.kohsuke.stapler.jelly.JellyClassTearOff.serveIndexJelly(JellyClassTearOff.java:117) at org.kohsuke.stapler.jelly.JellyFacet.handleIndexRequest(JellyFacet.java:127) at

  Re: All stages show up as UNSTABLE when only one stage should

 Some changes have recently been released to address this issue. All of the changes require Jenkins 2.138.4 or newer. The main fixes are in Pipeline: API Plugin version 2.34 and Pipeline: Graph Analysis Plugin version 1.10, but in most cases you will need to change your Pipelines to be able to take advantage of the fixes:

If you are currently setting the build result to unstable using currentBuild.result = 'UNSTABLE', you need to update to Pipeline: Basic Steps Plugin version 2.16 and start using the unstable step instead. See the changelog here for details. You may also be interested in the new warnError step.

In case you are curious why we can't make currentBuild.result = 'UNSTABLE' work as-is, the problem is that currentBuild is implemented as a GlobalVariable rather than a regular Pipeline Step, so there is no way to associate the setting of the build result with the current Pipeline stage, especially if a parallel step is being executed.

If the build result is being set to unstable by the junit step from the JUnit Plugin, then update the JUnit Plugin to version 1.28 and the visualization should be fixed.
If the build result is being set to unstable by the publishIssues or recordIssues steps in the Warnings NG Plugin, then keep an eye on this in-progress PR which will update those steps to use a new API that will fix the visualization.
If the build result is being set to unstable by a Pipeline step in some other plugin, then file a new issue with the component set to that plugin, and ask the maintainer to start using the new WarningAction API from Pipeline: Basic Steps Plugin version 2.16 wherever they change the build result.
 In case of problems, the new behavior can be disabled by setting the system property org.jenkinsci.plugins.workflow.pipelinegraphanalysis.StatusAndTiming.DISABLE_WARNING_ACTION_LOOKUP to "true", or by setting the static variable of the same name to true via the Jenkins script console. Note that the Blue Ocean steps view will not yet display the status of individual steps using the new API correctly, keep an eye on this in-progress PR which will fix that issue. Once that PR is merged and released, I plan to mark this issue as closed.

 Hi, I am new to Jenkins but have done a few builds/deployment jobs of .net project successfully. Now I am trying to build/deploy  Vue js project through Jenkins but just cannot get through... I can build the project directly on a server using command prompt. It builds and creates files for deployment in a right directory.  When I am trying to do it in Jenkins job (using the same npm commands) it does not give any error messages, says it built successfully but it does NOT create any files for deployment.  Does anybody encounter this problem? Did anybody build Vue js project through Jenkins? Any help appreciated. Thanks!

 My colleague has produced a fix for the plugin that seems to work. I'll encourage him to create a PR for you, or do it myself. Is there some process I should be aware of, or just fork and submit one?

 got yet another example today of a plugin including {{pipeline-model-json-shaded-1.2.jar}} seemingly because it  dependend  depended  on workflow-aggregator at scope {{test}}. Hard to tell from the tooling what promoted it to compile scope, but i's not a direct dependency on {{pipeline-model-definition}} and given {{pipeline-model-definition}} is a plugin this should break the link.  {noformat}[INFO] |  +- org.jenkins-ci.plugins:pipeline-milestone-step:jar:1.3.1:test[INFO] |  \- org.jenkinsci.plugins:pipeline-model-definition:jar:1.2:compile[INFO] | +- org.jenkinsci.plugins:pipeline-model-api:jar:1.2:compile[INFO] | |  \- org.jenkins-ci.lib:pipeline-model-json-shaded:jar:1.2:compile{noformat}

 I disagree with this request. I think if you want to append to the build description, you should have to do so explicitly by referencing the existing build description via the DESCRIPTION_SETTER_DESCRIPTION environment variable in your new description. That way, you would have both options. As it is, there is no option to replace the existing description.

 Unfortunately this Jenkins instance did not have any backup so nothing was recovered. I skipped 2.175 and 2.176 and upgraded to 2.177. The good news is the issue with builds automatically restarting and failing after a Jenkins restart is not occurring anymore. The bad news is we probably will never know what happened now  It may have been related to JENKINS-57254. Anyway, I will go ahead and close this Jira since the issue cannot be reproduced anymore. Thanks for looking into this.

 Carlos Garcia The best "work around" is to not use git client plugin 3.0.0-rc and to not use git plugin 4.0.0-rc. No solution is available yet for those pre-release versions. I've flagged this bug as a blocking bug that must be fixed before the release of git client plugin 3.0.0 and git plugin 4.0.0.

 This problem happened again, and it is not resolved by simply restarting Jenkins server. I tried the downgrade and it seems to work for now, fortunately. The problem appears only in jobs with Git Parameters (where I can choose a branch/tag). In this case, an error is thrown and no branches are shown.   Is there any progress on this? It is a strange issue, since my 'cat' command is available:

whereis cat cat: /usr/bin/cat /usr/share/man/man1/cat.1.gz

 The idea is to provide ways for a script to create more easily API Tokens, revoke them. Also, to provide a default API Token for the admin user. We need to have such capability for Jenkins X in order to reduce the dependence on the crumb issuer and thus, reduce the code complexity around the authentication they are required to use.

 You can check the xml files in the build folder of the build on the new and the old build (*-issues.xml). Maybe a simple diff shows the changed property between the builds. (Or select an issue in both build xml files and compare the properties).

 We migrated our Jenkins server (master) to new hardware by installing a fresh new Jenkins on the new hardware and then copying the JENKINS_HOME directory from the old hardware to the new. All slaves performing the actual builds were not touched. Since then all warnings are reported as new. For example the report states:7,643 new warnings7,643 fixed warningsI was thinking that maybe the fingerprints of the builds from the old hardware and the fingerprints of the new hardware do not match. Any ideas how to investigate this issue further?I would prefer not to reset the quality gate to not miss a new warning introduced by a recent commit.

 Hello Stephan   As we mentioned in the issue description when we are using the ANT plugin for building we encounter Invalid Maximum Heap Size issue.  We also have a feel that it may not be an issue with the ANT plugin as we encounter the same issue when be try to build using a batch file with ANT commands on the slave machine. So we would like to know if this is some configuration gap on the Jenkins server or something else.   Thanks in advance.
