We shouldn't assume that they know they're appreciated, but rather we must take the initiative to let themknow that we love them and that they are greatly appreciated and thoughtof. Be encouraged to allow your light to shine towards those who have intimes past shined their light upon your life. In doing so you will be encouraging and uplifting those who took the time to encourage and uplift you.I hope you are challenged and inspired by today's message to do unto othersin kindness and encouragement as they once did unto you.JOGGING YOUR MEMORYWhen William Stidger taught at Boston University, he once reflected upon the great number of unthanked people in his life. Those who had helped nurture him, inspire him or cared enough about him to leave a lasting impression.One was a schoolteacher he'd not heard of in many years. But he rememberedthat she had gone out of her way to put a love of verse in him, and Will had loved poetry all his life. He wrote a letter of thanks to her.The reply he received, written in the feeble scrawl of the aged, began,"My dear Willie." He was delighted. Now over 50, bald and a professor, hedidn't think there was a person left in the world who would call him"Willie." Here is a copy of that letter:"My dear Willie,I cannot tell you how much your note meant to me. I am in my eighties, living alone in a small room, cooking my own meals, lonely and, like the last leaf of autumn, lingering behind. You will be interested to know thatI taught school for 50 years and yours is the first note of appreciation Iever received. It came on a blue-cold morning and it cheered me as nothing has in many years."Not prone to cry easily, Will wept over that note.She was one of the Great Unthanked People from Will's past. You know them.We all do. The teacher who made a difference. That coach we'll never forget. The music instructor or Sunday school worker who helped us to believe in ourselves. That scout leader who cared.We all remember people who shaped our lives in various ways. People whoseinfluence changed us. Many times we hurry through life forone reason or another and miss the simple joys that fill the heart and make life truly worth living. The Lord did not create us to run a mile aminute and do a million different things at the same time. He did createus to enjoy one another in brotherly love and lead our life in a manner that would be pleasing to Him. We read in Proverbs 17:22 "A merry heartdoeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones." Be encouraged to take time to enjoy the blessings that surround you and allowthem to fill your heart with the peace and joy of the Lord. (Psalm 118:24)I hope you are encouraged and

C: Di Perjanjian Lama, kita mempunyai catatan tentang bencana-bencana yang mengerikan dan kematian. Allah menghancurkan dunia dengan air bah pada zaman Nuh, dan semua orang dan binatang mati kecuali delapan orang dan binatang-binatang yang berada di dalam Bahtera (Kejadian 7). Di zaman Abraham, Allah menghancurkan kota Sodom, Gomora, Adma dan Zeboim (Kejadian 19, Ulangan 29). Dan Allah juga memerintahkan umat Israel pergi ke tanah Kanaan untuk menghancurkan kota-kota di sana (seperti yang kita baca dalam kitab Yosua), mengapa?Alkitab adalah catatan Allah mengenai hubungan-Nya dengan umat manusia. Allah sudah memberitahukan kita bahwa kita diciptakan dalam "gambar dan rupa Allah" (Kejadian 1:26-27), dan kita diciptakan untuk mengasihi dan melayani Allah (Ulangan 10:12), tetapi kita memberontak terhadap Allah.Sebelumnya, dan pada banyak waktu setelah itu, umat manusia terus memberontak terhadap Allah. Dan Allah memperingatkan bahwa harus ada pembayaran atas upah dosa. Itu adalah pembayaran yang sangat menakutkan karena dosa itu begitu buruk sekali. Dalam kitab Wahyu, pembayaran itu dinamakan sebagai "kematian kedua", yaitu hukuman kutukan dalam kekekalan.Dalam berbagai peristiwa di kitab-kitab Perjanjian Lama, Allah menimpakan kehancuran fisik atas dunia dan beberapa kota tertentu untuk memberikan kita fakta adanya kematian jasmani, dan hal itu melayani sebagai "gambaran" bahwa nanti akan ada kematian kedua, yaitu kutukan dalam kekekalan bagi semua orang yang tidak diselamatkan.Kita dapat dan kita seharusnya takut dengan semua kematian dan pembunuhan yang terjadi pada zaman Perjanjian Lama, tetapi walaupun begitu hal itu adalah bukan apa-apa bila dibandingkan dengan penghakiman yang sangat mengerikan yang akan terjadi pada hari yang terakhir.Bayangkan hal ini: milyaran orang, satu demi satu, akan berdiri di hadapan tahta penghakiman Allah. Dan Allah mengetahui segala dosa yang pernah diperbuat, semua perbuatan yang jahat, dan semua perkataan yang jahat. Allah sudah pasti akan menemukan mereka bersalah atas dosa-dosa mereka dan membuang mereka ke dalam neraka yang kekal (2 Petrus 2, Wahyu 20).Umat manusia berada di dalam situasi yang sangat buruk, dan itulah mengapa kita begitu bersuka cita bila kita bisa berbagi Injil dengan dunia. Injil memberitakan bahwa manusia bisa diperdamaikan dengan Allah apabila mereka percaya kepada Tuhan Yesus Kristus sebagai Tuhan dan Juruselamat mereka (Roma 5:10, 2 Korintus 5:18). Yosua mendekatinya dan bertanya kepadanya: "Kawankah engkau atau lawan?" Jawabnya: "Bukan, tetapi akulah Panglima Balatentara TUHAN. Sekarang aku datang." Lalu sujudlah Yosua dengan mukanya ke tanah, menyembah dan berkata kepadanya: "Apakah yang akan dikatakan tuanku kepada hambanya ini?" Dan Panglima Balatentara TUHAN itu berkata kepada Yosua: "Tanggalkanlah kasutmu dari kakimu, sebab tempat engkau berdiri itu kudus." Dan Yosua berbuat demikian." (Yosua 5:13-15)Seorang "laki-laki" yang muncul dengan pedang terhunus tidak membuat Yosua menjadi gentar sampai sampai laki-laki tersebut memberitahukan Yosua siapakah Dia sebenarnya. Dan "Panglima Balatentara Tuhan" ini tidak lain adalah pre-inkarnasi dari Tuhan Yesus Kristus sendiri. Sedang "pedang yang terhunus" menggambarkan bahwa Ia datang untuk menjalankan pengadilan melalui Firman-Nya. Ide yang sama tentang "pedang yang terhunus" juga dinyatakan ketika penghakiman Tuhan berlangsung atas kota Yerusalem dan menyebabkan kematian 70,000 umat Israel melalui penyakit menular/sampar (1 Tawarikh 21:16). Kemudian kita melihat Yosua dengan segera "sujud dengan mukanya sampai ke tanah, dan menyembah". Yosua memperlihatkan rasa takut yang kudus yang dimiliki oleh semua orang-orang percaya yang sejati. Dalam kitab Lukas 12:5 yang kita baca demikian:"Aku akan menunjukkan kepada kamu siapakah yang harus kamu takuti. Takutilah Dia, yang setelah membunuh, mempunyai kuasa untuk melemparkan orang ke dalam neraka. Sesungguhnya Aku berkata kepadamu, takutilah Dia!"Ini adalah salah satu petunjuk bahwa Seorang laki-laki yang muncul kepada Yosua adalah Allah Yang Kekal itu sendiri. Yosua sudah pasti mengetahui dengan baik dua ayat-ayat dalam Perjanjian Lama ini:Dalam kitab Taurat di Keluaran 34:14 kita membaca demikian: "Sebab janganlah engkau sujud
