In the CC or BCC field type in the name of the recipient followed by a ; and
type the name of the next recipient. Do the same for as many names as you

I've done it before a long time ago, but am wondering if someone can give me
instructions for the process of sending a message to multiple e-mail
addresses in outlook 2010. I'm using the latest build of Jaws 16 though
should be getting my 17 cd very soon so might be upgrading. Any help is
greatly appreciated. thanks

RE: sending to multiple addresses in outlook 2010

2015-11-20 Thread judith bron via Jfw
When I address an email Jaws speaks the name of the recipient soon after I
begin typing their name. For example if I type "JO" chances are pretty good
Jaws whill say John. If John is the contact that I want I might type in one
more letter before I type in the ;. If I want "Joan" instead I'll type in
an a after the o. I hope I'm reading you correctly.

Thanks for this, but I should have been a little more specific. I want to
know how to send to multiple addresses like you are talking about here but
all the addresses are already in my address book. What are the steps for
going back and forth for adding the numerous addresses into the "to" field.
Thanks so much!

In addition to the list changing locations at the end of the month, I will
be looking to expand the moderation team in the near future. Any new
moderators being brought on will not be brought on until the list changes
location. However, anyone with an interest in doing so should be advised
that I will be looking through their recent activity on the list before
making my decision. I am presently working out what the added moderators
will be responsible for at present. However, those of you who are interested
in contributing to the list in that capacity can indicate so by emailing me,
privately, off-list to say so.

Those of you who've been with the list a while will remember we had rules
once. We still do, albeit not quite as enforced as they ought to be. The
additional moderators, and the change in location, will hopefully go major
steps toward changing that. I'm putting together the new location as I write
this, so all I'll need to do when the day gets here is move everyone from
here to that new group. Most of you have been awesome, which gives the list
something steady to build on. It's my hope that once we get things back on
track, neither I nor the moderators will have much to do but keep things
going.

As said, if there's an interest, communicate it to me privately off-list. If
you're picked to join the administration team, you'll be notified before the
move so that we can get you set up appropriately before it all goes online.
Any questions or issues, also send them to me off-list. My direct email, for
those who don't already have it: ja...@the-jdh.com

I just signed into my Amazon.com account using my email address and password

to track an order that has been shipped, and did not encounter any image
captcha. But when I originally placed this order on Tuesday, I noticed that

there were no longer a series of radio buttons on the shipping options page
to choose the desired shipping method, which, of course, would be free
shipping, which is not usually checked by default. Even though there was no

obvious means of selecting one of the four listed shipping options, I hit
Enter on the first option anyway, free shipping, and this apparently worked,

because free shipping is what I got. But it is also possible that this
option was already selected by default. Amazon is constantly tinkering with

its web site, much to the detriment of us blind consumers. But it is almost

impossible to challenge them because Jeff Bezos, recently ranked as the
fifth wealthiest person in the US, is an absolute control freak who always
gets his way.

2015-11-12 Thread judith bron via Jfw
When Freedom scientific first began way back when their mission statement
was to provide a program to the blind and visually impaired world that would
allow them to work the computer using keystrokes rather than a mouse. We've
come a long way since then but it seems that part of the mission statement
has been lost in the mire. Business has to keep progressing but losing
sight of your mission eventually reduces all the economic progress. There

However, the more people who do share their concerns in this way, the more

Hello Jim and everyone,

It's possible to have it both ways. JAWS could be directed to store
a user's settings locally for those who prefer that setup or store them in
the cloud for users wanting easy access to them in the event of a computer
crash or if one buys a new computer. During installation if the cloud option
is selected JFW could be directed to retrieve your user settings from the
cloud so they can be reloaded with ease. This doesn't need to be an
either/or proposition.

Having JAWS totally in the cloud would scare the daylights out of me!
However, having JAWS settings in the cloud is no less of a security concern!

In my view, the ONLY thing that makes sense is to have a "fail-safe" way to
access your JAWS settings which is "resident" on your PC/lap top/tablet.
That way, people, who DO NOT want to use the cloud, will not be forced to do
so, and access to these settings would be available even if your PC/lap
top/tablet is not connected to the internet at the time.

I ask you... is the cloud REALLY NECESSARY? My response is clearly NO!

Hi, Drew. Freedom Scientific is not going to run JAWS in the cloud. Only the

RE: calling out the admin

2015-11-09 Thread judith bron via Jfw
This topic is really becoming tiresome. The admin for this list is a
volunteer. Personally there isn't enough money to get me to work 24/7 and
put up with all kinds of demands. If the admin is monitoring this list and
knocking out inappropriate messages so be it. In my opinion the forum is
running well and the volunteer admin has the right to his own life. JB

I have noticed a reoccurring theme here with an issue that came up earlier
this year and complaints that the admin. Wasn't monitoring the forum.

May I suggest a simple solution that might address this issue.

Perhaps a protocol that requires anyone wishing to catch the Admin.'s
attention to send an email to him that has a specific subject line reading
all caps URGENT ADMIN. And if need be on the admin.'s end sorting email
influx by subject specific to this protocol so that there is no reason for
an email to be unnoticed.

This way if anyone has an issue that they need admin assistance on they can
be assured to get him.

I'm not sure we really need the admin's baby sitting the content of the
forum but glad to have an authority if needed and for this an email to him
directly should suffice.

Thanks for your work as the admin...I'm sure it’s a thankless job...The
forum is invaluable.

need sorted and I haven't responded to an email, it's because I didn't see
that email. Fix that, and I can fix you. Calling out the admin is not fixing
that. Calling out the admin when you could just as easily resend the email

Another way to make your opinion known is to change screen readers. No, I'm
not ready for that move right now but when it comes time to have to cough up
the money to upgrade I might have to take a good look at my options. That's
the way our system works. You didn't like a Ford? After the early years of
the car you bought a Chevy. You don't like IBM computers? You buy a Dell
or some other brand. The list goes on and evidently its made a lot of
statements and bottom lines in the past. Nothing is irreplaceable.

Hi Adrian,

Believe me, I would like to rollover & stick at least 1 of my 4 legs up 1 of
someone's ass at Freedom Scientific but, it seems like, most of the time
anyways, they don't give a rats ass about what we the consumer think & go on
their merry way! I do agree that if people complained in more volume it
might make more of an impact but, if these complaints fall upon deaf ears,
so to speak, complaining won't change anything either, just as it hasn't
changed crap like this in, forever, with FS. I can tell you 1 way of making
1 of the most important people within Fs, Eric Damry, aware of how you feel,
& that is to join another email list, Jaws-Users. Eric Damry is a member of
this list & is a somewhat frequent poster depending on the topic, to the
list. Here is the necessary link to join if interested.

To join:

jaws-users-list-j...@jaws-users.com

Click on the link above, put subscribe in the subject line, leave the
message body empty, & send. You'll receive a confirmation email, reply to
it & you should be good to go.

It's not a real high traffic list.

Take care.

Mike,

Understood. The temptation to roll over and stick my four legs up in the air
is sometimes strong, but over time I've found that persistence and volume
can prevail. By persistence, I mean one person demanding a fix. By volume, I
mean the more of us who complain, the more pressure FS will be under to fix
it and ensure this kind of fiasco doesn't recur.

I do recall many versions ago that the merge utility cause havoc from one
version to the next. The people at FS remember that event. I also know that
persistence doesn't always work. I've had my own frustrations with FS over
time.

But the merge utility was basic to the transition from version to version,
and most of us JAWS users depended on it. It's bad enough that we must pay
for a SMA every two versions, which FS has ensured means every two years,
but now to go through such inconvenience as well?

As for the lister who proposed a petition, let him produce one. Otherwise,
it's simple enough to write to FS and let our voices be heard. Again, the
address is

supp...@freedomscientific.com

I admit I don't like being a rabble-rouser, but this really is annoying.

Hi Adrian,

I agree with you &, I don't find it acceptable either but, what else are we
supposed to do? We can bitch until the cows come home & it won't change the
fact, that Freedom Scientific already knows, they are not keeping up with
their own products. I've complained about various screw-ups for many years,
& when you send them a complaint you only get back an automated kiss ass
email stating how they're working to resolve the problem. It seems to me
that they have a need to stay on some kind of schedule, & that schedule is
to put out a new version of Jaws around November of each year whether it's
ready for consumer consumption or not!
Take care.

status line in Outlook

2015-10-30 Thread judith bron via Jfw
I had an Outlook "mishap" and now I don't have the feature where Jaws tells
me how many messages I have in my inbox. It told me how many I had and how
many were unread. I accessed it with Jaws key 3 on the numerical keypad.
How can I get this back? Thanks, Judith

Outlook help needed

2015-10-28 Thread judith bron via Jfw
Last night my Outlook went crazy and I wasn't receiving messages. We called
the ISP and he got it back again, with all my messages from the past month.
Now I can't get a count on my messages using insert 3. Also my deleted
items folder doesn't seem to be retaining any deleted items. Is there a way
to put everything back to normal? Thanks, JB

I would call Microsoft Disability, 800-936-5900. They got mine to read
from Insert 3, what a bonus, that wasn't even the reason I called. I had
been told that JAWS would not read my unread message count like in
Outlook Express, but now it does!

Bye for now,

Hi there,

For example, I want to mention to a friend named John Smith in a comment.
Sighted users can type the at sign @ then type “john” without space, @John Then
they scroll down the cursor, Facebook will appear a pop up window that provides
a list of someone’s name start with John. Sighted Users can select the relevant
name by enter… I used to use the feature in jaws 12 or 13. But from jaws 14 to

Hi Kimber, How do you set the computer to announce spelling or grammer
errors on each line in a word document? I had it set on an old machine, but
not this one. Also when you are reading back and hit a misspelled word jaws
announced the error. This feature is most helpful in large documents.

Hi Tom,

The show or hide options you're referring to are found in word rather than
in Jaws.

To hide paragraph marks or space marks or what have you, do the following:
Press alt to be placed in the ribbons. Left arrow once to reach the file
tab. In the file tab, up arrow once to reach options then press enter. You
will be place in a list of categories, arrow down once to display then use
the tab key to explore the options under display. One option will allow you
to show or hide paragraph marks. Another will show or hide space marks.
There are quite a few others you can set as you prefer. When you've
finished, tab to ok and press enter.

I hope this helps.

 Hello again, everyone.

I have recently noticed that in Word 2010 files, Jaws now announces
 paragraph markers and other headings.

Although this info can be helpful, it is very annoying when trying to
 read through an entire document.

I have some instructions here that tell me to use insert V for Jaws
quick settings, and to turn new lines and paragraph settings off in
the editing options, but this only works for the document I'm currently
in.

Is there a global setting via which I can turn the paragraph and
heading announcements off completely for all MS Word documents?

I am not sure how these announcements got turned on, so I have to
believe a global adjustment to Jaws can be made somewhere.

I'm using Jaws 14 with Windows 7 and office 2010 here.

No matter how scrittable Narrator becomes, it will never be as functional or
feature-rich as JAWS or Window Eyes. If any screen reader is in trouble, it
may be JAWS, not Window Eyes. As long as FS continues to charge upwards of
$1000 for JAWS and makes absolutely no concessions to make it more
affordable like GW Micro has with Window Eyes, it is in more danger of going
under than GW Micro.

Indications are that Window Eyes is also on its way down the chute.
This move to offer it free with Office is a desperation maneuver, and
since Narrator will (hopefully, if the reports are correct) be
scriptable in Windows 9 it doesn't look good for GW Micro.
Jaws will probably hang on a bit longer thanks to existing scripts and
legacy programs, but this is not good news for any add-on screen
 reader company.

Well, Serotek is still in business, so I guess System Access is till
around, but who knows for how long? Now that Mike Calvo is gone, and
Window Eyes is being offered free to users of Office 2010 and 2013,
not to mention NVDA, which is also free, it is hard to see how
Serotek can remain a viable competitor in the cscreen reader market.

there also is the built in one in Windows called narrator, which I
would like to purchase something to replace MS Anna, like
  Lequendo's Allison.

Thunder used to read MS Access when JAWS wouldn't. The voice is
awful, but it was a good reader.

Non Visual Desktop Access (NVDA) from nvaccess.org is the only
one that I know of that's free, but a donation is encouraged.

  Hello Listers,
Could anyone post some of the screen readers downloadable for
  free
  please?
So I can compare them to Jaws.
  Thanks Kevin Hourigan.
