RE: How to silence a key

2015-09-04 Thread Kimsan via Jfw
I asked the same question on the other jaws list and I was informed that you
couldn't silence that key.
You can try and be stubborn like me lol.
It's under setting center/manage keylabels.Don't look for alt, press "m" to
get to menu as alt is listed under that.
When you attempt to mute it, you will hear JAWS Settings Center
The mute/speak state of Menu cannot be toggled because this key is used
in combination with other keys.
OK

You said you did that on another machine, how so?
I ask as I would like to silence the alt key as well.

Hi All,

Would someone please remind me of the steps to silence a particular key in
jaws? I would like to silence the alt key, but it's been a long time since I
did it on another computer and I don't remember the steps.

Thanks in advance.

This is interesting, mine has never announced the alt key and as Adrian says I

I take it the intent is to stop JAWS verbalizing "alt" when the alt key is
pressed? Mine doesn't say "alt," but I did nothing to set it that way. I wonder
if it's a function of the synthesizer. (I don't use Eloquence.)

That said, if I press alt on an application that uses a ribbon, JAWS verbalizes
the first item. Ditto on an application that uses the old file menu. On my
desktop, however, JAWS says nothing when I press the alt key.

I wonder if the problem is one of asking the right question. It isn't so much
silence that you'd want, but for JAWS not to verbalize "alt." Unless I
misunderstand.

RE: How to silence a key

2015-09-04 Thread Kimsan via Jfw
I'm thinking that is the intent, and I just pressed the alt key here in
outlook and over on ie, and alt was not spoken; however, my question on the
other list pertained to a certain application where alt was always spoken
when using it with another key, and I wanted it to be silenced only in that
application.

I have JAWS set on Intermediate. I wonder if setting it on beginning would
make the Alt say Alt. Mine does not say Alt. I am sure that it would not on
advanced either.
