God of Small Things - O.S. Hilman Who despises the day of small things? - (Zechariah 4:10) Life is filled with a series of small things that can amount to something big. Have you ever considered why the God of the universe came to earth and spent 33 years identifying with mankind through work? Jesus grew up as a carpenter's son and, no doubt, learned the trade from His daily routine of helping His father. For 30 years He worked. When it was time for Him to begin to fulfill His purpose for mankind, He told countless stories of people and their work. He told stories of landowners, farmers, fishermen, tax collectors, and so on. He related to the everyday man because He Himself was one. This is why it was important for Him to have some personal work experience. Life is filled with daily routines. Every now and then, God takes us to the mountaintop to experience His presence in a dramatic way. This is not the norm. It was not the norm for those in the Bible either. Moses spent 40 years in preparation. Paul spent a great deal of his life working toward the wrong purpose until a dramatic event changed his life. Jacob spent 20 years working for Laban. God uses work to develop character qualities that He plans to use at the appropriate time. In the small things we develop trustworthiness with God. The day-in and day-out grind of working life molds us and makes us into what God desires. God may still be preparing you for something far greater. Dear friends in Jesus , In our day today lives we desire, love and possess many things. But later ew realize that they do not satisfy us. I often desire and try to acquire sth, but only after possession do I sadly realize that what I have in my custody is not the real thing I desired and loved, but only a feeble shadow ! A few days back as I was going through a book by Pascal, a French Philosopher, my eyes struck up on a point ie, there is a vacuum in every man, that's shape is that of God. What we often do is we try to fill it by acquiring power and possessions. But still the vacuum remains and we feel a sense of loss. This may be the reason why St.Augustine once said: our hearts were made for you O Lord and how weary they are until they rest in You Therefore dear friends let us open our hearts to the Lord who knocks at its door (Rev.3/20) and let him be the king of our hearts who can only fill our inner vacuum. acob's Ladder Everything in Jacob's life was providential. The Bible speaks of Jacob who has proved to be more than a cunning person. Jacob outwitted his own family. And, Jacob is best known as the very few in the Bible who challenged God and got away with it. Jacob was determined, demanding and dreamful. It is his dreams and demands that propelled a change in his life. Most of us have had at least one tough day with dead-lock problems. A day of sweeping decisions. A day we worry for our very basics, a day we must have quarrelled with our family. End of it all, we are all alone. The nature ends the day with the night. We sleep on a pillow to wait for a dream, wait for that 'Jacob' in us. For Jacob, it was a stone for a pillow and emptiness was the sky. First came a doze. Then came the angels. Jacob was guided by God through every stage of his ambition. In the troubles and plight that followed, Jacob wrestles with the very Strength that had led him. Trampled with a wrenched hip, Jacob wanted blessings. A pro-active believer, Jacob, receives that sure blessings he fights for. Jacob bridges the earth and the heaven with the presence of God in his life. Hai! wait, What can I grasp in my dreams? For a moment I saw the desire in me for that comforting ladder. From a spiralling corporate-ladder hectic with targets and achievements to a delightful career-ladder beaconing God's presence in the everyday events; from a dusty and cob-webbed ladder that was seldom used to a growing social-ladder often traversed with kindness and charity; a ladder through which I can climb into the desires of my own heart - for the Glory of God. Dear Friends Mary, sister of Martha and Lazarus, and Mary Magdalene are trade off quite often by many preachers and teachers. It is not correct both are different person. Some times these two are also equated with the woman caught in adultery by the Jews and brought before Jesus. This also is also wrong as there is no major clue to arrive at such a conclusion. The Mary who anointed Jesus was Mary, sister of Martha and Lazarus if we take the account of John 12: 1-7 in conjunction with Matt 26: 6-13 and Mark 14: 3-9 and Luk 7: 36-50 Mary Magdalene is categorically distinguished with a parenthesis in Luk 8:2. Dear brothers and sisters of the the JoyNet, Saints are special people from whom we can draw a lot of inspiration in our Christian Walk. They are people according to St. Paul who ..First gave themselves to the Lord; and then by God's will they gave themselves to us as well 2 Cori 8 : 5. I would like to share my thoughts on the life of this beautiful saint - St. Mary Magdalene who appears so many times in the Bible as a person so intimate in serving Jesus. She is without doubt a powerful intercessor for us to Jesus. It is believed that St.Mary Magdalene was the sinner referred to in (LUKE 7:36-50) who anointed Jesus' feet at the banquet of Simon, the Pharisee. We see Jesus appreciating her act of faith and forgiving her sins. The gospel also suggests that St. Mary Magdalene used to help Jesus and his ministry financially as is revealed in (MRK 15:41, 16:1; LUK 8:3). God used Mary Magdalene and many other women to support Jesus and his disciples financially. (MAT 27:55; MAR 15:41). The gospel also speaks about Her being delivered from demonic possession. She was one person who was desperately in need of divine intervention and we see that she attains it through Jesus Christ the great Deliverer. MARK 16:9 says that seven demons had been driven out of her by Jesus. St. Mary Magdalene after her encounter with Christ and His saving love was steadfast in her faithfulness in following Him even under severe persecution till the foot of the Cross with His Mother.(MATHEW 27:55; MARK 15:40; LUKE 23:49; JOHN 19:25). We also see St. Mary Magdalene keen to anoint Jesus at the time of entombment after his death. The bible says that she purchased the spices for the anointing of Jesus body at the tomb. (MARK16:1) St. Mary Magdalene reveals her deep commitment to Lord Jesus in John 20 : 11 when we see her crying bitterly at the Lords tomb and when she complains to the Angels seated in the tomb - They have taken my Lord away ... We also see St. Mary Magdalene sprinting to the disciples to inform them about the empty tomb. Because of her great love and faith she gets the rare oppurtunity to speak and listen to the voice of the Angels of God. The angel said to the women, 'Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.' MATH 28:5,6 And finally we see Jesus Himself rewarding her commitment, by revealing first to her; after His resurrection and calling her Mary and she responding as Rabboni - a word full of love and faithfulness. St. Mary Magdalene is one of my favourite woman in the New Testament; after Mother Mary who is full of zeal and love towards serving God. She should have been very close to Mother Mary too and should have been present in the Upper Room with Mother Mary and all the Apostles to receive the powerful anointing of the Holy Spirit. She is truly a great saint isn't she ?? Now I invite you dear brother and sisters in making this prayer to St. Mary Magdalene one of the oldest prayers written by St. Ansalem. Are we giving enough importance to her in our prayers ? Cos she is one person who was really intimate to Jesus and when she intercedes; you can be sure that the heavens are gonna open! [JOYnet] Urgent - Please pray
This is a request from England. Please pray for a friend of mine as she and her husband are going through a tough time. She is pregnant for a couple of months now and is suffering from continuous vomitting and she has been weak and and was admitted in the hospital. But there isn't much improvement so far. The doctor suggested for an abortion now advising that it might adverse her condition worse if she keeps the baby. But she sticked to her faith saying 'No' to kill a life !! But of course she has pressures from all sides and also her health is deteriorating. This is a big test in front them as a family! They are going through a big trauma, psychologically and spiritually. You all can understand the importance of the situation. They really do need our prayers and let our prayers go up high continuosly for this family and lets intercede with our dear Mother Mary for that 'little life'.. We dont need to know what jesus did from 12-30 years, or any other things like marys childhood etc.this things are not critical truths on which our faith depends. Let us understand the faith of the church and therefore our faith as a set of concentric circles. The Core circle or the inner most circle is the mystery of the Holy Trinity.around it are the primary truths we hold of of our salvation and then the secondary truths abt the church, mary,sacraments, sacramentals.etc I am not grading the truths but just numbering them in terms of criticality. here are the comments from the internet. It is not correct both are different person. Some times these two are also equated with the woman caught in adultery by the Jews and brought before Jesus. This also is also wrong as there is no major clue to arrive at such a conclusion.
