Re: [JOYnet] THE FINAL DOC OF DECEMBER 20 PRAYER FEVER
Hello Calvin and friends, Today's prayer is a great initiative. Praise God! I will be with a youth group at Thoppumpady for their Christmas Celebration. I think my message is at about 6pm the time fixed for common prayer. This means a couple of hundreds will join with you all. So let us meet together in prayer. [JOYnet] JY International Christmas Celebration
Hello Friends, Many of you from different countries will be coming home to Kerala for Christmas, and Biju Davies from Canada is suggesting a one-day meet of Jesus Youth from different countries. We had a discussion with Manoj Sunny and have reached some consensus (you can imagine the hurdles). The proposed date is Dec 27 Friday. And where? You may remember that our Cultural Exchange program is going on and in those days these 250 tribal youth from all over India will be there at Changanacherry to affend the Sehion Meet. So we can meet at SB College, Changanacherry. Jesus Youth International Gathering Time: 10 am to 4pm, Dec 27 Fri Venue: SB College, Changanassery Expenses: we'll share it (Who will bring the cake?) Program: Please do suggest (even if you are not able to participate, and you can be there spiritually), and Manoj Sunny will do the rest. I suggest our net presence as one topic. Main Contact: of course Biju Kannampuzha, who else! May be Mathew Joseph should assist as Joynet presence, I am sure, will be quite big. JY from differnt parts of India, please take a special effort to come and participate. It would be great if someone from each country takes responsibility to mobilize people. Please circulate the information to our other mail groups also. So, start planning, please inform Biju or one of us and, more than everything else, begin a prayer campaign so that the Lord will make this gathering another little step ahead in our walk together. Merry Christmas! Eddy/Cochin/ India This mail is generated from JOYnet, a Jesus Youth mailing list. [JOYnet] Requesting your prayer support
Hello Friends, Tonight I begin a short trip to Thailand and Singapore. In Thailand there is a program called 'BISCOM' - Bishops' Communication Workshop which will be attended by a couple of Bishops from each country in Asia, most of them in charge of communication. The program is organized by FABC (Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences) Communication office and the theme 'E-generation. The Communication of Young People in Asia. A Concern of the Church'. I have two sessions to handle on the 28th morning and afternoon. The first one is entitled 'Experiences of a youth leader' and the second 'Evangelizing Youth'. On 29th I go to Singapore to spend time with the Jesus Youth and Charismatic Prayer group leaders there and I come back to Cochin on Dec. First. I request your special prayer support. [JOYnet] Requesting your support
Hello Friends, I think I am the best person to beg. Here I am mentioning two intentions that are close to the heart of many of us, raising them for your heartfelt prayer and also for the material support from some of you. Some of you already mentioned the matter of Raiju's father who has to have a major heart sugery rectifying the problem of a valve. For those of you who don't know Raiju - he has always been known as our 'out-reach' man, keenly interested in working among street children and many other difficult groups. After his studies in law, for the time being he is working full-time in Jesus Youth and is the assistant co-ordinator of the National team. His father's proposed operation is naturally a big concern for our dear friend Raiju. He has always raised all kinds of support for many in need. Let us see how we can support him, spiritually and materially. Another matter is the very difficult condition of Suresh, very much known among Jesus Youth circles as Kannoor Suresh. Coming from a very poor agricultural background he has been active in Jesus Youth ever since the early '80s. I still remember him attending his first leaders retreat, a 'Know Yourself Program' I gave at Chembanoda in 1983. From then on he became very active at all levels of Jesus Youth, as a preacher, organiser and a tireless worker in all major programs. Many leaders today remember his towering presence in one of the very adveturous steps in the history of Jesus Youth, Campus Meet 88. That was the foundation for our flourishing Campus Ministry. And what is it about him now? He has been suffering from quite a few very difficult physical ailments, the most difficult of which is a very serious lung condition. (I had somewhere the medical descriptions of the problems. Unfortunately, I cannot delay the mail until I find it) He has been suffering for a longwhile and there is a mounted up debt. He is being treated at Calicut Medical College and the treatement is expensive. His son is retarded and the childs monthly treatment also eats up a significant amount every month. Suresh is need of whole hearted support from many of us. Please do respond, Eddy --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Re: [JOYnet] Pray for Priests
Hello friends, I am following with great interest all your thoughts about 'Pray for Priests'. A few of you wrote to me presonally and others to Joynet. Many of them are really touching. Abraham mentions Nelson's mail but I did not see it. My connection was down for a couple of days and may be I missed it. I am also seeking the Lords will to see if we should do something in a more organised way, and if so in what concrete ways. Share your thoughts in that line also. My diocese got into nasty trap early this week. Those of you who watch the media in this area will remember the furore over the 'rain dance' and the TV image of a priest walking around at the tourism promotion fete with a glass. Afterwards I got invoved a little bit to help them sort out the mess, and I said once again we have to PRAY FOR PRIESTS and that too very earnestly. Eddy/Cochin/S. India - Original Message - From: Josh Folks To: JOYnet Sent: Thursday, May 16, 2002 5:45 PM Subject: RE: [JOYnet] Pray for Priests Hello! When I read Eddy chettan's mail it was wake up call for me. Now I make a point to pray for the priests. Ever since Josun put his feedback on this issue I wanted to share my vies in this matter. But then I was a little worried about it as it was a kind of confession I had to make. But after reading Nelson's mail now I feel I should not keep it back. So here is what I got to share in this discussion. This mail is generated from JOYnet, a Jesus Youth mailing list. [JOYnet] Shouldn't we pray
Hello Joynet Friends, I am from Cochin, Kerala, India. These days I am mostly at my parents' house in the village, Kumbalanghi. The evenings are quite relaxed, with a long dip in the pond and sometimes a walk near the river side. At about 9pm I spend quite some time in intercession. I pray for Jesus Youth all over, especially those with responsibilities in it and those who have asked for prayer. I remember Joynetters and many faces in it and it goes on, International JY conference in Canada, the Rex Band trip, etc are uppermost in my mind. But one intention comes back to my mind again and again, that is, the need for urgent prayer for priests. The harvest is plentiful . . . . Pray the Lord of the harvest . . (Mt. 9: 37) Let me share some of my thoughts so that a few of you readers may respond. We have to pray for priests. Priesthood, I believe, is a wonderful invention of the Holy Spirit. I think of many great priests I know, some of them in this network, Joynet. Some Bishops are very close to my heart. I very well know that one priest alive in Spirit is indeed a mighty force for the building up of the Kingdom. All over the world a great number of priests are doing this wonderful work of God, and we have to pray for Priests. I do not pray for these only, but also for those who believe in me through their word (Jn. 17: 20). When I hear about failures in the life of some priest, I again say we have to pray for priests. They are called for a big mission and they have responded. They were set apart and were given support and training. But they are from among us and need our support. While talking to a big group of priests two weeks back, one of them was sharing from his heart, 'Sir, don't forget, we are human. We need your love and support'. We have to pray for priests. I dream of a wide network of people who will love the Church, love the priests and earnestly pray for them. If two of you agree on earth about anything they ask . . . (Mt. 18:19). I can never do the wonderful amount of God's work that any single priest does. (Though sometimes some priests tell us that many of us Jesus Youth do much more than any of them, I believe that our effectiveness comes from our sharing of the work of these priests.) Even if I cannot work like a prist, I can surely have a share of the abundant graces of priesthood by loving and praying for priests. He who receives a prophet because he is a prophet shall recieve a prophet's reward. . . even a cup of cold water . . shall not lose his reward. (Mt. 10:41). I don't have a complete idea, but we must have a network to specifically PRAY FOR PRIESTS. There has to be certain things that (i) each one in this network should do and (ii) certain things they do together as a body of intercessors. (i) Individually, - Daily take time to remember priests with love and pray for them. = I remember priests in general and then specifically think of the priests I know and life them to the Eternal Priest. And then I say a decade of the rosary for them. - Love and respect priest. = I greatly value my relationship with priests. It is a great thing to know a priest. There is an age-old custom of kissing the hand of a priest. At times it is a little embarrassing, but I take great joy in kissing the hand of some of them. - Try not to spread bad news about priesthood rather spread inspirational tidings. - Collaborate in whatever way possible with the good things that priests are doing. and more . . (ii) as a network called PRAY FOR PRIESTS, would some of you like to give some ideas for me. So, do pray for priests, Eddy/Cochin/ India This mail is generated from JOYnet, a Jesus Youth mailing list. [JOYnet] Someone wanted to support some charity
Hello friends, Someone (or more than one?) asked me about some genuine charity project to support. I couldn't propose any at that time. Now I would like to propose one organisation, Holy Cross Hospice for financial support. The hospice looks after terminally ill, especially dying cancer patients and run by Holy Cross nuns at Perumpadappu, near Cochin, South India. I am one of its board members. But, of course, my first love is surely for Jesus Youth. With the International Conference fast approaching, we are in need of BIG support for Jesus Youth. And no others will understand the need for youth exposure and training, so we will have to have a preferrential option for that. I mention the Hospice because some people specifically set apart money for poor and suffering. So if you have a mind to know more about this hospice, especially at a time when they are increasing the capacity from 25 beds to 50 beds, do respond to me. [JOYnet] Jeevan TV again
Hello Joynet friends, Here I am again with prayer request for the next instalment of Jeevan TV program shooting. Many of you write and ask me when this channel will up. Frankly I have no idea. But they are busy preparing programs for round the clock telecast. For those who don't remember my earlier mail, this new TV channel, Jeevan TV, has asked me to do 15 minutes of 'value based talk' every morning. About a month back I could give 15 sessions. Tomorrow they want me to present 10 more programs, if possible. But I am going through a difficult time. A big general strike is going on for the past 20 days in our state, and I am standing firm in my resolve not to join the strike. There is terrible pressure and all different tactics to make me join them. Because of the strike I will be able to get out of the college only by 3.30 in the evening tomorrow and then I will have to drive to the studio. They are taking the studio in the Divine Retreat Centre, like last time. I hope to finish the 10 episodes by midnight. Please pray, I still have to decide upon the topics, content, dress, etc. Eddy/ Cochin/ S. India This mail is generated from JOYnet, a Jesus Youth mailing list.
