[JPP-Devel] FOSSGIS Dessau (Germany) and OpenJUMP
Hi, the german FOSSGIS e.V. organizes from 20. March 2012 to 22. March 2012 the FOSSGIS (Free and OpenSource Software GIS) the conference. See at http://www.fossgis.de/konferenz/2012/ (Sorry, the website is only in german.) The FOSSGIS conference is primarily for a german audience. OpenSource projects get the possibility to present the project with a small booth. This is free of charge. I have spoken to the organizers and we can have a booth for OJ. So I will do a little bit advertising and marketing for OJ. I hope I can acquire some new users or contributors/developers. It would be nice, if any of the other users or developers (espacially the german's) can help me or have some time. I hope that my purpose encounters your approval. regards Matthias -- Keep Your Developer Skills Current with LearnDevNow! PS: As I am working on a Public Participation web site my current read is Rubin and Chisnell (2008) Handbook of Usability Testing: How to plan, design and conduct effective tests - besides other literature. So this is a plain graphic design issue here, the dialog would be usability wise the same without it. probably not so appealing but please don't mix up two sports here, even if they are played in the same stadium. my focus has changed a bit from an OJ tutorial and help to a general thinking about what is important for software aside from functionality. Hence, my efforts with that installer image. i support that fully. my studies in applied computer science taught me to put usability first. or better, what's the use if it is unusable. a good product is actually intuitively usable because it explains itself because it uses well known basic concepts that guide the user through it's handling. still, we have no usability problem here... ede Am 20.02.12 18:28, schrieb Stefan Steiniger: Hey, mhm...standard practice in Desktop Publishing? Re: [JPP-Devel] OpenJUMP roadmap updates
I agree that there is no need to ask my consent each time you want to incorporate a feature from SkyJUMP. I do like to point out any potential problems you might have, so coordination is still helpful. There should be no real issues with porting the Colourization plugin (or whatever we are going to call it). It does require a modification to styles and adds an RGB attribute when invoked, so it does have some risk of side effects. It currently only supports fill color so it can't be used with linestrings, although extending support for line colour would be fairly trivial. regards, Larry On Sun, Feb 19, 2012 at 6:28 AM, edgar.sol...@web.de wrote: On 18.02.2012 17:53, Michaël Michaud wrote: I can do this integration in the next days, before doing it I wonder if Larry Backer agrees, since ISA team made this plugin. Re: [JPP-Devel] OpenJUMP roadmap updates
2012/2/18 Michaël Michaud michael.mich...@free.fr In the future, I would like to be able to customize the toolbar, because I like softwares which start with only few menus and few buttons, then add what I really need. But we can see that later (I should write a feature request) Hi Michaël! Interesting. For the testing framework I wrote a class to parse the menu items into a tree data structure, to be able to test the existence of menuitems easily, without using JMenu and co directly. I'm not finished with this, so I didn't check any source code for this in. I also had some thoughts on FeatureInstaller to be able to customize the menu structure. I think we should not manipulate JMenuBar directly, but the tree structure. So we could put the tasks Customization of MenuBar and Customization of ToolBar into the roadmap. I will document my thoughts on the FeatureInstaller (and MultiInputDialog) as soon as I will find the time. Greetings Benjamin -- Keep Your Developer Skills Current with LearnDevNow! Re: [JPP-Devel] installer image
Hi Stefan, Ede Graphic Design is surely not a domain where I have any legitimity, But it seems you need some third party opinion. First, I have to say I was quite satisfied with the first image I even thought that this is at least one place where OJ now looks professional (there are many other places where design and graphic appearance improvement would be more useful) Now I had a look on the new image from Stefan. Understood the message. Think you tried to explain what the soft is all about. I think if I had to design this part of the soft, I would have done something like Stefan, (technical approach, classic horizontal writing...) However, as a user, I prefer the previous one for two reason : - image in such a place is not read, just seen. So that visual effect seems more important than pedagogic message. - aesthetically, previous image is nice. I'm not fan of vertical scripting, but colors are well balanced pattern and letters are well sized, etc. - Stefan tries to show much more things using many colors and shapes, so that it looks like more technical, but it is not as clean from my aesthetic point of view. [JPP-Devel] [ jump-pilot-Bugs-3488976 ] Noder plugin fails to split polygons

Category: OpenJUMP - Menu - Tools Group: None Status: Pending Resolution: Postponed Priority: 8 Private: No Submitted By: michael michaud (michaudm) Assigned to: michael michaud (michaudm) Summary: Noder plugin fails to split polygons Initial Comment: Splitting polygons option often returns a partial result (containing only a small part of the input dataset) -- Comment By: michael michaud (michaudm) Date: 2012-02-21 16:15 Message: Several problems there : 1) compute intersections when neither split lines nor split polygons was checked has been broken since a switch from MCIndexNoder to IteratedNoder = came back to MCIndexNoder 2) some polygons were not computed with the split_polygon option because of a bad use of Polygonizer. Polygonizer does not want duplicate segment as inputs. - another smaller method in splitting polygons is that it relied on interior point which can sometimes return point on the boundary (made a ticket to JTS mailing list) 3) another problem discovered while debugging is that snap-rounding noder looses z values because of ScaledNoder. I submitted a patch to Martin, and hopefully, it will be fixed with JTS 1.13 (and OJ 1.6 ?) -- Comment By: michael michaud (michaudm) Date: 2012-02-18 23:50 Message: Can reproduce the problem with the following steps : Create two intersecting squares A and B snapped on a 0.1 grid == split polygons will produce a single polygon which is the intersection of A and B polygon A-B and B-A are missing from the result Now check the geometry, coordinates issued from snap on grid are not precise (something like 123.0002). Make them precise. Now it works. Maybe the noder plugin missed a step where input should be made precise. -- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailatid=679906aid=3488976group_id=118054 -- Virtualization Cloud Management Using Capacity Planning Cloud computing makes use of virtualization - but cloud computing also focuses on allowing computing to be delivered as a service. http://www.accelacomm.com/jaw/sfnl/114/51521223/ ___ Jump-pilot-devel mailing list Jump-pilot-devel@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/jump-pilot-devel

Hi all, so I fixed that download thing for the flyer.. and I think we also need to bring that flyer up to date in a bit (maybe). http://sourceforge.net/projects/jump-pilot/files/Documentation/openjumpflyer_v3.pdf/download And also: sorry for the false allegations - the whole thing is not related to the re-ordering if the downloads end of last year. However, what I do not understand is, why does the download not work anymore? Maybe that was already long time ago when access to the NB was also not working anymore. I saw that a couple of other files in the /download/ folder may also not be accessible anymore (plugins..), and we need to check where they are listed? I guess on the wiki... puzzled stefan On 21/02/2012 6:26 PM, Stefan Steiniger wrote: Hi Matthias, if I would be in Germany I probably would go.. but unfortunately...
