thanks for the info, -k. here's hoping it does sometime? aquamail might do it. Just two (very technical) cents FWIW: Given claims that that Yahoo "never" supported IMAP IDLE extension... ... we can look at how things are *right now*. This a session transcript, I'm using a command line tool to connect directly - i.e. not using any email app. I'm using an @aol.com account. 1 - Connecting to imap.aol.com - AOL's official IMAP mail server name given on help.aol.com $ openssl s_client -crlf -connect imap.aol.com:993 2 - Pre-login server capabilities * OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1 SASL-IR AUTH=XOAUTH2 AUTH=PLAIN CHILDREN ID LITERAL+ NAMESPACE UIDPLUS MOVE] IMAP4rev1 Hello IDLE capability is not present 3 - Logging in k1 LOGIN ...@aol.com ...password... 4 - Getting server capabilities again (in case they changed post-login): k2 CAPABILITY * CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1 ID MOVE NAMESPACE XYMHIGHESTMODSEQ UIDPLUS LITERAL+ CHILDREN X-MSG-EXT IDLE capability is again not present 5 - What server am I talking to? ID ("name" "blah" "version" "1.0") * ID ("remote-host" "10.200.64.157" "vendor" "Yahoo! Inc." Sandy, I put a new IMAP one on yesterday at the instructions of their Support - suggesting that my earlier ones had the wrong settings. It went on quickly and easily - but I admit I was using Aquamail if that makes any difference which I doubt.. [k-9-mail] can't add new aol account to k9
I've tried manually, auto, using imap and pop3. it says it can't find the server. this has happened at the same time oath is migrating their AOL and yahoo accounts. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "K-9 Mail" group. [k-9-mail] Re: imap problems (aol specifically)
Thanks Sandy, What I have gleaned from the Aquamail forum is that Yahoo has never supported IDLE Push so if we are being migrated to one of those servers we can forget about being able to continue that way. I have set my errant compuserve address to poll for message every five minutes. I can drop that back to less frequent of course. What I want to do is to find the best way of keeping battery useage down. The level of support I am getting from AOL through emails is worryingly poor and looking ahead I would feel much safer with another email provider - but I don't want to give up my compuserve addresses as I have had them so long and no matter how often you tell people you have a new address they still forget too often. And look at how key people are leaving AOL as this all happens. https://www.ft.com/content/9998476e-b2a8-11e8-8d14-6f049d06439c Tony -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "K-9 Mail" group. [k-9-mail] Re: Messages from Discover Card causing K-9 Mail to exit
I have submitted an issue on github about this. I am seeing the same thing. I have looked at the raw text message and it seems as though the multipart boundary starting with an equal sign is the culprit. I forwarded a problem message to myself and k9 mail has no trouble with it. The forwarded message does not start the multipart boundary with an equal sign. [k-9-mail] Re: imap problems (aol specifically)
hi Tony. I've chatted with aol. it seems oath (Verizon) is migrating all the aol and yahoo emails to the same server. three of mine have recently migrated and no longer push. I've worked around that with poll and hope k-9 will look at that in the future. I did figure out the spam component. when it polls these three migrated accounts, it errors in the spam folder. after trying multiple different k-9 competitors, I discovered the migrated accounts now use a folder called "bulk mail" as the spam folder. it's frustrating. no other apps give me the customization k-9 does. sandy -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "K-9 Mail" group. [k-9-mail] Re: imap problems (aol specifically)
One of my @compuserve.com accounts, hosted by AOL, lost its IMAP IDLE push about two weeks ago. My second @com... account still has it. I have made four attempts to get the Support Desk at AOL to tell me what is happening. After inumerable time wasting emails from them telling me what settings to use I have ended up with a short 'this facility is not available' email. I wait now for the second address to lose Push. I use another email system as well as K-9 and the view on their forum is that this is the result of a mess up as AOL and Yahoo messaging servers are 'integrated'. I worry about the future reliability of my two compuserve email addresses. Tony -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "K-9 Mail" group.
