Like I said, I'm coming from outside KDE, so I had to be a bit wordy to make sure I was understood. Part of that it simply not knowing what terms to use to be more concise, and not knowing how the software works in the background. I hope the solution will also allow launchers like Albert to "see" all the related settings modules when searching for the related group name. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=433441 lvxejay changed: What|Removed |Added Status|REPORTED|CONFIRMED Ever confirmed|0 |1 CC||lvxe...@gmail.com --- Comment #8 from lvxejay --- I can confirm this happens for me as well. All signs point to this commit being the culprit: https://github.com/KDE/spectacle/commit/a232723b35a1c2c2d8f27f6bf4a59f2ff3775863 Commit Msg: > This fixes the bug that keeps Spectacle running, happens when it's launched > via either spectacle --region --background or Meta + Shift + Prt.sc. It seems like Spectacle isn't working as expected here. Previously the region screenshot -> clipboard via shortcut action worked, but that actually seems like a bug. In other words, Spectacle was able to copy to the clipboard because it was still running in the background. As of v20.12.2-2, if I have Spectacle open and do a rectangular region capture with the Copy to Clipboard option enabled, the image is copied to the clipboard, as expected. Essentially, it as if Spectacle is closing before it can copy the image to the clipboard when running in background mode, due to the "bugfix" mentioned above. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kde] [Bug 433566] New: App Launcher search/discoverability problem (settings groups)
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=433566 Bug ID: 433566 Summary: App Launcher search/discoverability problem (settings groups) Product: kde Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org Reporter: redb...@redbearnet.com Target Milestone: --- Reposting from my own post on Reddit. I don't know exactly where to put it so putting it in "kde" general issues. App Launcher search/discoverability problem (settings groups) Settings "groups" in 5.21 are not searchable in KRunninger/Appliation Launcher. Just trying out KDE Neon to see the new 5.21 update. Coming from Linux Mint (Cinnamon and XFCE) mostly. Well, also almost 20 years of Mac OS X / macOS. >From my perspective there is a major, and I mean MAJOR oversight that I would like to point out, in terms of helping users find settings. It's nice that the settings app has apparently been given significantly more intuitive organization by grouping related settings together, such as everything related to the KDE look grouped under "Appearance". That's something to be proud of. However, do a little experiment with me. Try to search for "appearance" in the new Application Launcher in 5.21. There are nine different modules under the "Appearance" group inside the settings app. But only three things come up in the launcher, and only because they happen to have the word "appearance" in their descriptions, not because any of them are named "Appearance". And there is nothing that is actually called "Appearance". On XFCE, for instance, if you search in the main menu or a launcher like Albert (Spotlight clone), you will find the app called "Appearance" which is responsible for much of the XFCE look. No doubt it shows up so easily because it is an application with a desktop file, or whatever, and the settings groups in the new settings app in KDE 5.21 are just... "groups" of some kind, internal to the application, which the launcher apparently can't see. So I'm sure there is some valid technical reason that the group names in the settings app are not searchable by the App Launcher. But I think this is a huge mistake that should be fixed. The user should be able to type "appear" and already see a primary item called "Appearance" that will take that user into the settings app and open the Appearance group. Same holds true for the other groups in the settings app, I'm just using the Appearance group as an example. There are four items under "Applications" in the settings. Type "applications" into the App Launcher and you get nothing relevant. I end up with Chromium as the highlighted entry, and a few lines above that is the settings module that happens to be called "Default Applications". In XFCE there is an application called "Window Manager". Here in KDE 5.21 there is a settings group called "Window Management", with four modules inside. Search for it. If you type it out verbatim nothing relevant is left showing in the launcher. How about the "Startup and Shutdown" group of settings? Only two of the five modules in that group will even appear when typing "startup" in the launcher. "Workspace Behavior" groups seven different modules together. Only one will show up if you search for "workspace". I hope I'm not the only one here who thinks this is a situation that could be drastically improved pretty easily. Just find a way to make the new settings "groups" searchable items that launch the settings app and enter that group. At the very least each of the settings modules should somehow be made to come up in the launcher when you type in the name of the group. Like, just stick the settings group title in the description somehow. At the beginning, "Workspace Behavior: Touch Screen". Or at the end, "Touch Screen (Workspace Behavior)". In fact that should be done in addition to making the main groups show up as their own item in the launcher. And it shouldn't be some kind of hack that only works in the KDE Application Launcher. It needs to be a solution that would also work with other launchers like Albert. Example: Make a bunch of desktop files named after the settings groups, each of which just launches the main settings app with an add-on command option that opens that specific group of settings. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[konsole] [Bug 431337] konsole Profile Visibility Can No Longer Be Controlled, and More Of Them Appear in Menus
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=431337 --- Comment #9 from Bill Wayson --- I, like EB, would like this to be an issue and that the old visibility option and behavior be restored. The current behavior under openSUSE Tumbleweed is less that optimal. EB's use case is an even stonger one to bring back the previous behavior. Many other applications, including KDE's, allow users to customize them, often easily through their UIs. For example, I can enable and disable Plasma's desktop effects using checkboxes. Many effects are installed by default, but I don't necessarily want them all to be activated. Almost universally, such user customizations are stored in files under their home directory, and many are plain text files. Certainly, the user could modify them and introduce "bugs," but that is on them. If this is such a serious issue with Konsole, as suggested in comment 6, perhaps Konsole could run a lint-like sanity check of a user's profiles on startup and deal appropriately with any errors found. I am not a fan of modifying defaults if such defaults are implemented in protected areas (e.g. the program itself or files under /usr). Unless I am missing something, the easiest way to restore the behavior (i.e. fix the bug) is to have Konsole honor the "Favorites" line in the "Favorite Profiles" section that still exists in ~/.config/konsolerc (and IS still honored by the Konsole Profiles plasma widget). The other options offered seem to be too round-about and complicated, especially when compared to behavior that worked so simply up until now. So, +1 from me: bring back the visibility checkboxes and behavior in konwole. Thanks! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kwin] [Bug 433562] Windows with intentionally missing buttons do not display properly with Aurorae decorations
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=433562 --- Comment #7 from Paul McAuley --- I realised that this is because I did not specify a deactivated button design in my svgs for the "Kite" aurorae decoration (as described at https://techbase.kde.org/User:Mgraesslin/Aurorae). To be more specific, I do as follows: - I log in - I attach the second screen (due to bug 429266: if I leave it plugged in before log-in I get the issues described in the bug report) - the second screen is activated. In the settings it is placed as directly on top of the main screen - I open any program and it is placed in a messed-up position The last element makes me think that somehow the usable space of the main screen is overlapping that of the second screen and this leads to the issues. See attached video for reference. Please also note that the menu opens in the middle of the screen, instead of the top left corner. The only way I found to solve this issue is to manually disable the screen in the settings, then re-enable it and re-place it on top of the main one (a fact that reinforces my idea that something weird is happening with the placement of the screens). STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Attach an external screen 2. Open any app OBSERVED RESULT The app opens up in a weird position, with limitations into how an where it can be moved. EXPECTED RESULT Everything works normally, so the apps open in sane places and can be moved around freely. [kwin] [Bug 433269] Blurry fractional scaling
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=433269 Tom B changed: What|Removed |Added CC||t...@r.je --- Comment #2 from Tom B --- The issue isn't entirely fractional scaling and half pixels. Even at 200% there are a number of issues with the scaling option. Firstly there are odd minor issues like the mouse cursor looks incredibly blocky. There is a separate option for setting the cursor resolution and zooming the pixels doesn't pick the larger image. UI elements are scaled, some icons look OK, some look blown up. Fonts in certain UI elements aren't scaled (drop down boxes on wayland). The showstopper for me though, is that I can't view 4k videos or images on my 4k screen. If I view a 3840x2160 image in Firefox with 200% display scaling I have a choice: See 1/4 of it cropped with scrollbars or view it scaled to 1080p. I cannot see the whole image untouched. If I view a 4k video it gets scaled down to 1080p if I have 200% scaling. The scaling option isn't much better than just running my screen at a 1080p resolution. Text and some icons are better but nothing else. It might be possible for individual applications to support scaling properly but at the moment Firefox, VLC nor mpv do this, and enabling scaling shouldn't really limit the user's choice of applications. I have a choice of either reading text on the screen at a legible size or being able to view a 4k video on a 4k screen. This forced choice seems to be by design. The whole screen scaling approach seems like the wrong way to go to me as it introduces its own set of problems and limitations on the user. What's frustrating is that in Xorg, setting DPI works near perfectly. The UI is scaled, icons are scaled, context menus are scaled and I can view images and videos without them being scaled unless I want them to. The only issue is that some windows start fairly small. But at least they can be resized easily. Even when you reintroduce this option on Wayland, it wasn't ever working properly there. Fonts are scaled but padding around text, borders and other UI elements are completely ignored. Would it be possible to copy over the Xorg code that scales the UI and Icons based on DPI from Xorg to Wayland? For example, try setting font DPI to 192 and launching Rhythmbox or Dolphin. On Xorg looks great, on wayland everything is crashed together because the paddings around text and icons are not increased relative to the text size. So at the moment, as much as I'd like to use Wayland I'm stuck on Xorg because neither DPI or scaling work without issues. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
