[valgrind] [Bug 455826] Running Valgrind memcheck on a live process without exiting it reports LDL but on graceful exit it does not.

2022-07-04 Thread shapath
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455826

Thanks, Philippes for the response.

So does this means that Valgrind will report false positives for LDL if
structure packing is used?
As I mentioned this is a third-party code and structure packing is used for
many structures which are used extensively to save memory.
and it reports leaks at all these places.

Is there any flag or workaround available for this problem?

I googled and found that ASAN has a flag that helps to bypass this problem.
https://github.com/google/sanitizers/wiki/AddressSanitizerLeakSanitizer

" use_unaligned 0 If 0, LSan will only consider properly aligned 8-byte
patterns when looking for pointers. Set to 1 to include unaligned patterns.
This refers to the pointer itself, not the memory being pointed at."

Is there any such solution that exists?

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455712

Same problem with face login (Howdy).

This comes just after the "Screen locker is broken and unlocking is not
possible" (455874) was apparently fixed. Lost count how many times that one
regressed. It even comes with it's own instructions screen, that's how
"popular" it is.

And this one seems to be intentional: "This patch adds an explicit button that
must be pressed if no other prompts were given during the authentication
process."

I am on the Neon "user" feed, and I must say, the stuff that ends up in it is
not fit for daily use of an operating system.

I can confirm this bug.
Numpad numbers (KP1-KP9) are seen same as just number on keyboard (1-9), which
are mapped to totally different functions.
It's also just ignoring some keys like `KP_Divide` (/) or `KP_Subtract` Numpad
(-) when assigning them in combination with Ctrl+Alt
It's not possible to use them as a shortcut (i.e. Ctrl+Alt+KP_Divide is not
working)

[Discover] [Bug 456342] New: Zypper locks not respected when updating packages

2022-07-04 Thread Ellis Kenyo
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456342

Bug ID: 456342
Summary: Zypper locks not respected when updating packages
   Product: Discover
   Version: 5.25.2
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: discover
  Assignee: lei...@leinir.dk
  Reporter: m...@elken.dev
CC: aleix...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Not sure which component this falls under, so apologies if this is wrong but;
as per the title really due to a recent regression with the NVIDIA driver, I
can't update it.

So I added locks to the packages via yast (verified with zypper ll) in the
hopes of being able to still use discover to manage my updates easily.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Mark packages as protected in YaST that have updates
2. Via either the plasma widget or the app, apply any update to a package
3. The updates still apply

OBSERVED RESULT

No matter what I tried to upgrade, I was still being prompted to accept the
NVIDIA licenses and the packages were still installed (thank god for snapper)

EXPECTED RESULT

The locks should have been respected and the updates should have continued
without

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: OpenSUSE Tumbleweed 20220703
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.95.0
Qt Version: 5.15.5

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Applies to both the frontend and the plasma widget, so I assume the issue lies
with one of the backends but I haven't used KDE since like KDE 4 so I'm not
sure which it is

(In reply to David Jarvie from comment #1)

Hi David - many thanks, and sorry I didn't notice I'd gotten a reply 'til now!
Thanks for all that info - while it's a pity there doesn't seem to be a way to
upgrade Kalarm (which would be understandable if it needed a newer version of
Akonadi, which it doesn't, so it's a bit perplexing), it's good to know that
when I upgrade the system, this will be a thing of the past. And many thanks
for your workaround - while it has been behaving ever since I fiddled around in
Akonadi Console, so installing that app was definitely worth it, I'll keep your
workaround in case I ever need it!

Oh, and I actually put some wrong info in my summary, and apparently users
can't edit their own comments on this site. I was incorrect when I said:

*akonadi_kalarm_resource_1* is "kalarm" and that *akonadi_kalarm_resource_5* is
"Archived Alarms"

Both of those are actually "Archived Alarms" - "kalarm" is
*akonadi_kalarm_dir_resource_1* - but it was only *akonadi_kalarm_resource_5*
that was going back and forth from Ready to being busy. And I'm happy to note
that after choosing to "Restart Agent", the problem hasn't restarted after
multiple reboots!

Cheers, and thanks for your input.

This is related to commit c5007a7bbfdfd66b165fdf1231435a41e40ce1e1. In the case
where Krita has received an image back, the cropped image request immediately
after will fail on the tryBarrierLock call. The provided workaround
(re-requesting a redraw) never takes effect because
PreviewWidget::paintOriginalImage is never reached via
MainWindow::onPreviewUpdateRequested.

2022-07-04 Thread tmpod
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456339

Bug ID: 456339
Summary: Fractional exponent freezes whole app
   Product: krunner
   Version: 5.24.5
  Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: calculator
  Assignee: alexander.loh...@gmx.de
  Reporter: t...@tmpod.dev
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
(KDE Crash Tool didn't seem to do anything after pressing the report button...)

KRunner's calculator doesn't seem to be able to handle fractional exponents,
like 0.5, 1.2, freezing completely right as you type the first decimal
character (after the dot).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open KRunner
2. Type "123**0.5"

OBSERVED RESULT
The whole KRunner interface freezes, and is kept on top of everything else.
Looking at htop shows that pretty much all threads are dead, with exception of
one which remains sleeping.

EXPECTED RESULT
It should show the correct result of exponentiation, in this case, ~11.09.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: 5.10.117-1-MANJARO
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.94.0
Qt Version: 5.15.4

Confirming with G'MIC 3.1.5 (commit 06d2048) and Krita 5.2.0 prealpha (commit
76a9e434dd). We're returning an empty image set immediately upon application.

> If you do not switch the "colorspace" of the filter, it cannot be used again,
> including the contents of the new layer

Alternatively, changing input modes makes it work again.

[i18n] [Bug 456334] Missing german translations in systemsettings, especially in "appearence","workspace behavior" and "window management" in Plasma 5.25

2022-07-04 Thread Frederik Schwarzer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456334

Frederik Schwarzer changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 CC||schwar...@kde.org

Hi,

from what I can see in the translation files, the strings you see untranslated
are translated here.
E.g.
"Window Decoration" - translated in the PO file
"Desktop Effects" - translated in the PO file
"Screen Edges" - translated in the PO file
"Virtual Desktops" - translated in several PO files

I am using an older version of everything so I cannot check it in the UI but I
suspect a different problem than missing translations.

> I think you should one and for all find a solution to translate the whole
> Desktop

Translation (as most things) is an ongoing process. There is no "once and for
all" solution. There are over 20 Strings in the GUI and the websites
(documentation comes extra) and since applications are evolving, new strings
are added or existing strings are changed every day. The German translation has
over 4 untranslated strings in the GUI and Websites. So technically,
missing translations are not a bug but a lack of contributions. ... Of course
we try to have "the desktop" and core applications translated but even that is
not always possible. No one in the German translation (probably in any
translation) is paid for it. It is just a leisure time hobby if life permits
it.

Anyway, I digress. So maybe Arch is breaking translations or maybe KDE's
release scripts are broken.
Could you find a file named kcm_kwindecoration.mo in some path containing /de/
on your system and attach it to this report?

Thanks.

Does it also happen just going to an empty TTY.

The perf trace doesn't show anything special other than timers firing and us
idling, but we're probably doing that constantly with zero interval timers.

Can you shove a debug in:

```
QObject::connect(, ::timeout, q, [this]() {
dispatch();
});
```

in renderloop.cpp and confirm if that's going crazy

[krita] [Bug 454031] Specific Color Selector does not show color in the RGB sliders

2022-07-04 Thread Josep Febrer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454031

I built Krita from latest master, 76a9e434dd, and as this bug explains the
sliders from Specific Color Selector docker in my case they only show the black
no matter how you move the slider.
I suspect that his bug it's due to Qt 5.15, I'll use the version from KDE's
git, and even tried to apply Krita patches, most of them are already applied on
Qt from KDE git, but still the sliders don't update the color, and they remain
in black.
With the Krita appimage from Krita Next which uses Qt 5.12 this docker works as
expected.

If you've done

Exec=sleep 10 && someApp

that's an invalid entry as per the spec which is why it fails. We only now
enforce it correctly.

Change to:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Systemsettings.Desktop must be used in German and it must be Plasma
5.25

OBSERVED RESULT

1. Choose "Appearance".Instead of "Fensterdekoration" the English term "Window
Decoration" can be found.
2. In "Workspace Behavior" > Workspace Effects some terms untranslated: -
Desktop Effects = Arbeitsflächen-Effekte

 - Screen Edges =
Bildschirmränder

 - Virtual Desktops =
Virtuelle Arbeitsflächen
3. In "Window Management": - Window Behavior = Fensterverhalten
  - Task Switcher =
Anwendungsumschalter
  - Kwin Scripts =
Kwin-Skripte
  - Window Rules =
Fensterregeln

EXPECTED RESULT

Must be translated into German: > Appearance (Erscheinungsbild):
Fensterdekoration (not "Window Decoration")
 > Workspace
Behavior (Verhalten des Arbeitsbereichs):

   + Arbeitsflächen-Effekte (not "Desktop Effects")

   + Bildschirmränder (not "Screen Edges")

+ Virtuelle Arbeitsflächen (not "Virtual Desktops")
 > Window
Management (Fensterverwaltung):

macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma: Arch Linux KDE
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.95.0
Qt Version: 5.15.5

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I'm using Arch Linux KDE.In Plasma 5.24.5 all was well with the german
translations in KDE/Systemsettings.Since the update to Plasma 5.25 English
translations of different terms in the sidebar of Systemsettings crept in
again,as it was in Plasma 5.24.4,where it was even worse. But the latter have
been fixed for Plasma 5.24.5 and I was satisfied.I think you should one and for
all find a solution to translate the whole Desktop not only into German, but
also in other languages.A french Youtuber complains in a video, that large parts
in his Linux Kde Desktop haven't yet been translated into French.

In general a good work had been done the last months by the Kde-Team,so that I
can say that the Plasma Desktop is now very stable, fast at boot and
shutdown, even on a hard disk, not only on an SSD in my arch system. But the sore
point remain the translations.By the way also a weakness in other Desktops and
Linux in general. The terms in the upper part can be translated in a few minutes
and prepared for the next update.

I've bought a new computer (my old one has weakened recently). In the meantime I
intend to use Arch Linux Kde on an external hdd that I installed before the
missing translations came up,with a btrfs file system and systemd-bootloader
where I can use KDE with a snapshot system using it with Plasma 5.24.5 where
all was still right.

The digiKam included in Ubuntu is unusable, this is not the first bug report we
have received for the Snap package. All sorts of problems arise due to the
sandbox. The Local File Copy Tool never deletes the source file, it's
impossible. Only the target file will be deleted if you have overwrite enabled.
Check your file system, hard drive, etc.

This is basically fixed with the merge of
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/merge_requests/1147. Now
everything is in one KCM, so it's clear how to accomplish what you want: don't
touch the language at all, and instead set the numbers, time, currency, and
measurements individually to what you want.

Created attachment 150395
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=150395=edit
journal for 5.25.2 with VR headset unplugged

Looking through the commits between 5.25.1 and 5.25.2, I see mention of setups
with VR headsets; and I do in fact have a Valve Index connected to the PC.

As a test I unplugged the headset, and the issue disappeared. Now there are
just two short sets of messages in the logs (attached): one about the TV output
disappearing (18:20:51 = when power on button is pressed on the remote), and
one about the output reappearing after a couple of seconds (18:20:58 = when the
TV actually turns on).

Bisection (with the VR headset connected) was a bit problematic, because after
commit ea8b0d962 and before 3bac0cd07 kwin would just hang on boot; I had to
either not include any of those commits, or include both of them. Ultimately I
confirmed that commit cb5981a16 (= v5.25.1) works (despite still printing some
"Atomic test for (0) failed! Invalid argument" messages), while commit
ea8b0d962 with cherry-picked 3bac0cd07 doesn't work (leads to the infinite loop
in kwin_wayland).

Hey Nate! Thanks for your work, but I don't have two of the same brand and
model monitors, so I can't test. However, I remember fixing it by checking the
"Only for this specific display arrangement" option for "Save display's
properties", in case it helps someone else.

Thanks again!

Thanks, Bings. Yes, please restore the ability to control the visibility of
profiles in menus. It's my personal preferences, but I don't care for the
color choices of the built-in "Default" or the supplied "Root Shell" profiles.
I've created my own profiles which are the only ones I wish to see in the
Konsole menus.

We can only help to a limited extent, the Ubuntu Snap packages have a sandbox.
This blocks access to external directories for digiKam. The File Export Tool
does not delete source files. If you move via drag or copy/paste, deleting
the source file is fixed in current digiKam versions if it fails. Use our
AppImage and delete the useless snap package.

I can't reproduce it on my system. Might be something to do with OpenSUSE or
packaging issue. Maybe you should report downstream bug on suse bugzilla?

I only have a single prompt with subject and caller pids identical.

> I mean the point of the option is to disable the popup

No, the point of the option is to disable the one that says "there's a
signature" not the one that says "there's a signature and this PDF should not
be trusted, run away".
