I don't find anything like this backtrace in my local collection. Could be a
libclang 17 regression (I am still at v16).

> I perhaps should prevent the stripping of the debug info out from my
> production builds... :)
Yes, please use `options=(!strip)` and `-DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=RelWithDebInfo`.
Though I suspect the bug is in libclang, in which case libclang debug symbols
will be needed.

Completely disabling drag and drop is a pretty hard workaround to swallow and
breaks a number of web apps that rely on it. I too am frustrated when I
accidentally soft-lock Chrome, but this workaround should not lessen efforts to
fix kwin.

It seems to be on all Chromium based browsers but that the bug is really in

[kwin] [Bug 486940] New: PlasmaShell shouldn't override all decorations.

2024-05-12 Thread Roke Julian Lockhart Beedell
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486940

Bug ID: 486940
Summary: PlasmaShell shouldn't override all decorations.
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.0.4
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: decorations
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: 4wy78...@rokejulianlockhart.addy.io
Blocks: 476996, 477169
  Target Milestone: ---
 Flags: performance+, Wayland+, X11+

SUMMARY
Plasma Shell shouldn't be granted special permission to render its own window
decorations, in direct contrast to user preferences.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Invoke "`kcmshell6 kcm_kwindecoration`"
2. Select "Breeze"
3. Select "Edit"
4. Select "Shadows and Outline"
5. Modify the "Shadow size" and/or "Outline intensity".

OBSERVED RESULT
*Custom* window shadows render which differ from those of the windows, which to
me looks incredibly weird on the plasmoid windows. Additionally, the new
1-pixel border on the windows doesn't render whatsoever, meaning that if a user
with impaired visibility wants to use PlasmaShell, they have to contend with
the fact that it's difficult to differentiate from windows which adhere to the
system theme due to its lack of a darker shadow (should the user have chosen
such) and window border.

EXPECTED RESULT
It should render the same as all other windows. If that's undesirable, then an
accessibility option defaulting to disabled should permit this functionality.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Fedora Linux 40
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.1.0
Qt Version: 6.7.0
Kernel Version: 6.8.9-300.fc40.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 6-Core Processor
Memory: 30.5 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 5700
Manufacturer: ASRock
Product Name: X670E Taichi

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

needing to fight with me - just close the issue. However, I'd like some
responses on the other issues if possible.

This forces me to utilize `$`, which overwrites the file extension.

Logs at the moment of display's sleep and unlocking

SUMMARY
When the display turns off, and some time passes (under 15m), usually some
application windows are being squished into small sizes, also some in-app
panels might change its sizes too. This happens only Wayland session. X11
doesn't have such issue.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open some windows
2. Place and resize them as you wish
3. Wait / manually lock screen and wait for it to turn off

OBSERVED RESULT
After unlocking the screen, windows are squished and displaced.

EXPECTED RESULT
After unlocking windows retain their sizes and positions.

KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.1.0
Qt Version: 6.7.0

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
As this issue didn't get reported and (probably) related issues do have low
activity, I assume it might be related to the bug, that affects only some
hardware and previously caused https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=452553.
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwin/-/merge_requests/2940

Previously I reported this to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482875, but
only now I realized that this is not exactly the same issue, so I decided to
report it separately. (However, they might be related.)

An update: the file copy progress notification also appears smaller, although
it doesn't cut any text, the notification popup is stretched vertically, now I
don't know if it's a bug or a feature.

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
A useful feature when looking for a process that I've used in other system
monitor apps (ie. the infamous task manager) is that when you press a key (eg.
'S' for steam, 'F' for firefox), the highlighted process cycles through the
processes starting with that letter.
This is useful for when you *sorta* know the name of the process you're
expecting. Also, it's much faster than filtering, which takes at least one
click to select the searchbox. It also matches similar functionality in
Dolphin, which cycles through files of the same initial character when one is
pressed with the window focused.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open System Monitor
2. Open "Processes" tab
3. Press a letter

OBSERVED RESULT

No action

EXPECTED RESULT

Cycles through processes of the given keypress, in sorted order (ie.
highest-lowest memory by default)

SUMMARY
I attempt to make a screencast (video recording of a window) and the file never
saves.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Spectacle
2. Type Meta+Ctrl+R to initiate a window-specific screen recording. I then see
the red circle at the bottom right of my screen showing it is recording.
3. I do my thing recording the window (in my test-case: simply me using KCalc)
4. Click the red circle to end recording.
5. Open Dolphin and go to ~/Videos/Screencasts (I had to create the folder, it
wasn't auto-created)
6. See no video files saved.
OBSERVED RESULT
No video files of the screen capture were saved. I checked other areas in the
home folder and they weren't saved elsewhere either.

EXPECTED RESULT
Screen capture of me using KCalc should be saved as a video file in
~/Videos/Screencasts

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a project and let its parsing complete.
2. Type "#include "
3. KDevelop crashes before I finish typing the complete line, usually at
"#include"

OBSERVED RESULT
A segfault

EXPECTED RESULT
No segfault

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

KDE Plasma Version:
KDE Frameworks Version: KDE Frameworks 5.115.0
Qt Version: Versio 5.15.13
KDevelop: git version b5ab8f4435a0fac975f31b4409ca4dae66255349
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The parsing must complete before the bug can take place, then it
happens every time. Or at least so often that I'm expecting it. KDevelop was
built from git version b5ab8f4435a0fac975f31b4409ca4dae66255349

I perhaps should prevent the stripping of the debug info out from my production
builds... :)

Bug ID: 486931
Summary: Verify that mobile device supports MTP before
providing the option to access it to the user.
Classification: Frameworks and Libraries
   Product: frameworks-solid
   Version: 6.2.0
  Platform: Fedora RPMs

CC: kdelibs-b...@kde.org, lu...@kde.org
Blocks: 486594, 486930
  Target Milestone: ---
 Flags: performance-

SUMMARY
Plasma should not merely utilize the USB ID to identify whether a device is
accessible, but test whether it can be accessed by MTP first, before presenting
that option to the user.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect:
* An AOSP device in initial charge reporting state; or:
* A Plasma Mobile (postmarketOS) device.
2. Open it via the "Disks & Devices" plasmoid.

OBSERVED RESULT
An error dialogue window appears.

EXPECTED RESULT
The plasmoid shouldn't present the device as possessing accessible storage.

Bug ID: 486929
Summary: Icons-only Task Manager: Clicking Pin opens new Icon
separate from Pin.
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Other
OS: Other
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
Component: Task Manager and Icons-Only Task Manager
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: mikar_gibb...@yahoo.com
CC: qydwhotm...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
Icons-only Task Manager won't pin Flatpak. Icons-only Task Manager won't merge
Pin with running App that spawned from it.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE/OBSERVED RESULT
1. Install Gitnuro Flatpak, Run it, Try to Pin but Icons-only Task Manager has
a bug and won't pin it.
2. Search for Gitnuro in Application Launcher and Pin it from there. When
clicking the Pin, Icons-only Task Manager has a bug and won't open the Task
Icon overtop of the Pin, instead showing Gitnuro twice in the Icons-only Task
Manager. If you open up multiple windows they are merged into the second icon
correctly.

EXPECTED RESULT
1. Right Clicking a Task Icon Then Pinning pinning it should just work
(especially when a Flatpak).
2. Right Clicking a Task Icon Should have an option to Open the .Desktop file
in an editor.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Bazzite 40

Qt Version: 6.7.0
Kernel Version: 6.8.9-301.fsync.fc40.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11

Changing Special Window/Application Settings didn't fix it.
Changing Configure Icons-only Task Manager Settings didn't fix it.
Changing .Desktop didn't fix it.

spice-vdagent added a workaround for this problem because GNOME had this exact
problem (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1750120) --- in short, it
sets the session type (not neccessarily XDG_SESSION_TYPE, which seems to be
ignored by systemd) to "x11". However, with Plasma, the session type is still
"tty" (for context, I'm starting plasma through bare startx, with no display
manager).

By the way, I noticed that after upgrading to Plasma 6 there are some troubles
with focusing apps at all. Sometimes they can loose focus. I can't find a
correct algorithm to reproduce this bug, but I can suggest the buggiest app,
e.g. there are no chances to work with 2 opened Clion instances. After a while
one of the instances becomes "transparent" for mouse events. E.g. you are
trying to click some element, but as a result you are clicking on the widow
under the Clion instance.

I can't replicate this on two paired Android devices, one running Android 14
("device A") and one running Android 13 ("device B"). Let me know if I have the
exact reproduction steps correct:

Preparation:
1. Ensure KDE Connect is running on both devices
2. Ensure both devices are paired and connected through KDE Connect
3. Ensure spotify app is installed and logged into the same account on both
devices
4. Kill (force-stop) spotify app on both devices

Reproduction
1. Open spotify app on device A
2. Start spotify playback on device A, using the app on device A
3. Look at notifications on device A. There is one notification from spotify
with media controls, and one notification from KDE Connect saying that device B
is connected.
4. Look at notifications on device B. There is one notification from KDE
Connect with media controls, and one notification from KDE Connect saying that
device A is connected.
5. Open spotify app on device B
6. Look at notifications on device A. There is no change since step 3.
7. Look at notifications on device B. The KDE Connect notification with media
controls has been replaced with a spotify notification with media controls.
