[Skanpage] [Bug 486771] Extremely slow UI with some driver/compositor combinations
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486771 Adrien Beau changed: What|Removed |Added Status|REPORTED|CONFIRMED CC||abe.kde.b...@zerty.xyz Ever confirmed|0 |1 Version|24.02.2 |24.05.0 Summary|Skanpage slow UI|Extremely slow UI with some ||driver/compositor ||combinations --- Comment #1 from Adrien Beau --- The initial bug report does not convey how terribly slow Skanpage UI can become in some cases. This is not "it would be nice if it was a bit smoother", but rather "something is badly broken here". We're talking UI delays that can be measured in *seconds*. More than one second after a key press before the text appears in the text field. More than one second after the mouse hovers over a button before the button changes its state to show it is being hovered. Several seconds after a click before a window pops-up. After selecting the scanner, Skanpage does some kind of animation to put the side panels in place. We can see the very distinct single steps of that animation. It feels as if the machine is down to its knees due to heavy load. However the rest of the machine is fine, only Skanpage is affected, something is killing its UI event loop. The rest of Skanpage seems to still work fine, notably scan speed is unaffected. This only happens in some circumstances. Having two computers and two drivers for the scanner, there's only one of the four combinations that triggers the issue. Computer A: recent high-end desktop, NVIDIA GPU, running X11 Computer B: old mid-tier NUC, Intel iGPU, running Wayland Both running the latest KDE neon with the same settings apart from the compositor. Computer A + airscan driver: works fine Computer A + pixma driver: works fine Computer B + airscan driver: works fine Computer B + pixma driver: terribly slow! https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=484875 Adrien Beau changed: What|Removed |Added CC||abe.kde.b...@zerty.xyz --- Comment #11 from Adrien Beau --- I have also experienced this issue, starting with Plasma 6.0.0. - OS: KDE neon - Display Server: X11 (X.Org) - GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (sole GPU in the machine, the CPU has no integrated GPU) - GPU Driver: NVIDIA v535.x (mainline version provided by Ubuntu, no tweaks or bizarre settings) In my case, this is a rare issue, it has triggered 2 or 3 times over 50-days of daily usage. I switch between machines frequently, so the screen locks and the monitor turns off several times per day. So, this triggers in less than 1 % of cases. The first time this happened, very soon after upgrading to Plasma 6.0.0, I removed the panel at the top, and reconfigured a new one at the bottom. [neon] [Bug 464734] New: Regression in libqt5widgets5, QPixmap segfaults when loading TIFF files

The QPixmap widget now segfaults when loading TIFF files. It still works fine for other file types (JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP). STEPS TO REPRODUCE The following minimal 5-lines Python script crashes with a TIFF file argument (it needs Python3 and PyQt5 installed): import sys from PyQt5.QtGui import QPixmap from PyQt5.QtWidgets import QApplication app = QApplication(sys.argv) pixmap = QPixmap(sys.argv[1]) Example command-line: $ python3 broken_qpixmap.py /usr/share/xml/docbook/stylesheet/docbook-xsl/images/tip.tif Segmentation fault The same script runs fine with an old Qt version. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=440903 --- Comment #6 from Adrien Beau --- > A proof that this ought not have been an issue is that the terminal > size---with the toolbar---can be manually resized after it has opened. Actually, there is an issue somewhere. The following is buggy on my computer: - Set Konsole *not* to remember the window size - Konsole window starts extremely wide - Vertical window borders *cannot* be moved with the mouse after it has opened (the cursor does not change to a "resize" icon when hovering over the left or right border) However, I just noticed other means of resizing the window do actually work: - Maximizing then restoring the window - Using the window menu - Dragging the corners of the window Once the window has been resized, the vertical borders can again be used to resize it. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=440903 Adrien Beau changed: What|Removed |Added Status|REPORTED|CONFIRMED Ever confirmed|0 |1 CC||abe.kde.b...@zerty.xyz --- Comment #1 from Adrien Beau --- I can confirm Konsole now starts with maximum screen width (2560 px in my case) and cannot be resized to a smaller width, when configured not to memorize window size. I find this a serious regression. It is possible this is caused by the absurdly long labels next to the icons in the main toolbar (see attached screenshot). Right-clicking in the toolbar to configure it to "icons only" does not solve the issue. Right-clicking the menu to remove the toolbar does not solve the issue. Once the window is too wide, it cannot be horizontally resized. Restarting Konsole brings back the toolbars and their long labels. Workaroung: configuring Konsole to remember window size, remove the toolbars if need be, then restart Konsole. However, as soon as you configure Konsole not to remember window size, the problem is back. For now, I consider the "initial window size" feature broken. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

The current "type the number" shortcut may be cumbersome on some keyboard layouts (e.g. French). CONTEXT The newly announced palette was featured in a "This week in KDE" article, this led to a discussion about palette keyboard shortcuts here: https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/k71i6n/this_week_in_kde_big_new_accentedalternative/gep8j35/?context=1 One worry about typing a digit to select a character is that on some keyboards, the digits are accessed in combination with the Shift key. Alternatively, they may be input using the keypad, for those who still have one. In both cases, significant hand movement is required, which may break fast typing, as is generally not ergonomic. WISH Implement other keyboard shortcuts to make it easier to select a character with minimal hand movement. A few ideas: * Use the F1..F9 keys to select the corresponding characters, this solves the Shift issue of some layouts. * Repeatedly press the triggering letter key to select an alternative character, then the Space bar to confirm the choice. * Repeatedly press the triggering letter key to select an alternative character, which becomes confirmed after a short timeout. As a practical example in the last two ideas: * The user would keep the E key pressed * The palette would appear with the É È Ê characters * The user would press E key two times, selecting the Ê character * The user would wait a bit (or press Space) to confirm -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=411560 Adrien Beau changed: What|Removed |Added CC||abe.kde.b...@zerty.xyz --- Comment #1 from Adrien Beau --- python3-pyqt5.qtwebengine is not in recent Debian and Ubuntu versions anymore, because the PyQt5 authors have started distributing it separately. This necessitates a new packaging effort. Debian is distributing the new package: https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/modules/pyqt5webengine, and the KDE neon team needs to base their work it, should they want to. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[neon] [Bug 390993] plasma-desktop still recommends muon
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=390993 --- Comment #4 from Adrien Beau --- In the commit, I see you have replaced -discover | muon-discover, +discover However, I think you meant plasma-discover. discover itself is a totally unrelated package, and quite dead actually, with no commits in 4 years, and last significant activity 10 years ago. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[neon] [Bug 390937] neon-settings fontconfig 56-neon-noto.conf is incompatible with 56-twemoji-color.conf
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=390937 --- Comment #2 from Adrien Beau <adrienb...@gmail.com> --- Thanks for your detailed answer. I did not know about Noto Emoji, it is interesting to know there is some choice in this area. However, looking at https://github.com/googlei18n/noto-emoji/issues/36 it appears you need very recent fontconfig and/or cairo to have it working out of the box. Indeed, I removed Twitter Color Emoji, restored the Neon fontconfig files, and put NotoColorEmoji.ttf in ~/.local/share/fonts as you suggested, and it was totally ignored by fontconfig. I also put NotoEmoji-Regular.ttf there, it was not ignored, but it only contains outdated black-and-white glyphs according to the noto-emoji README. The prepend hack may be ugly, but it also appears to be widely done by users in https://github.com/googlei18n/noto-emoji/issues/36 (at least until the very recent fontconfig version gets distributed more widely). Without it, I get glyphs from /usr/share/fonts/truetype/dejavu/DejaVuSans.ttf and they suffer from a huge style clash: some of the most basic emojis are ugly black-and-white glyphs, while the rest has nice coloring. The emoji coverage is also very poor. Currently, it appears TwitterColorEmoji-SVGinOT.ttf is the one providing a font with full support and consistent style that just works under the Xenial software stack. The prepend hack, while unsavory, seems necessary to make it work in all cases. (Or maybe getting rid of DevaVuSans is a solution...) I also tried renaming 56-neon-noto.conf to 56-x-neon-noto.conf and it solves my issue as you expected. Thanks! Should I close this issue, or would you prefer to keep it open to include a workaround in your package? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[neon] [Bug 390976] kde neon became ubuntu on grub
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=390976 --- Comment #3 from Adrien Beau <adrienb...@gmail.com> --- base-files version 9.4ubuntu4.6+p16.04+git20180224.1328 has been released by KDE neon and should correct your issue. [neon] [Bug 389852] Impossible to install muon package manager (unmet dependencies)

[neon] [Bug 390976] kde neon became ubuntu on grub
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=390976 Adrien Beau <adrienb...@gmail.com> changed: What|Removed |Added CC||adrienb...@gmail.com Ever confirmed|0 |1 Status|UNCONFIRMED |CONFIRMED --- Comment #1 from Adrien Beau <adrienb...@gmail.com> --- This is caused by the base-files package. This package contains (among others) the OS name and version. KDE neon customizes it to put its name and version instead of the ones from Ubuntu. Ubuntu has very recently published an update to this package, in preparation for the 16.04.4 LTS release (basically, they updated their version number). This the Ubuntu version is more recent (more important, it has a bigger version number), it has replaced the KDE neon version. KDE neon will need to re-customize this package to reintroduce their name and version number. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[neon] [Bug 390937] New: neon-settings fontconfig 56-neon-noto.conf is incompatible with 56-twemoji-color.conf
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=390937 Bug ID: 390937 Summary: neon-settings fontconfig 56-neon-noto.conf is incompatible with 56-twemoji-color.conf Product: neon Version: unspecified Platform: Neon Packages OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: neon-b...@kde.org Reporter: adrienb...@gmail.com CC: j...@jriddell.org, neon-b...@kde.org, sit...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 110922 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=110922=edit No font at all in KeePass (Mono/GTK2 app) I run an up-to-date KDE neon user edition. After updating Neon a few of days ago, I noticed a couple of regressions: * Firefox menus and tab titles switched to some kind of very basic serif font * KeePass stopped displaying any text in its GUI (see attached screenshot), which prompted me to urgently investigate! After investigating, I came to find an incompatibility between a file very recently added to Neon (56-neon-noto.conf) and a file added by a PPA which provides color emoji support in Linux (56-twemoji-color.conf). A workaround is simple to remove the /etc/fonts/conf.d/56-neon-noto.conf symlink. I understand Neon cannot support and be compatible with every PPA out there, but I found that package is the top recommendation for adding proper color emojis to a Linux desktop, which are otherwise sorely missing. Affected packages and versions: * neon-settings 0.0+p16.04+git20180220.1452 * fonts-twemoji-svginot 1.3-1 from ppa:eosrei/fonts (Xenial packages of course) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
