[krita] [Bug 437032] Timeline playback reset
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=437032 --- Comment #3 from Emmet O'Neill --- I think this has actually been improved quite a while ago now that the STOP transport button has a dual-function: 1. If you hit STOP while PLAYING it should bring you back to whatever point the playback started from. (For example, if you started playback from frame #24, hitting stop while the animation is playing should bring you right back to frame #24.) 2. If you hit STOP while the animation is already STOPPED, it should bring you back to frame #0 or the start of the animation. (Note: there is currently 1 open edge case bug related to playback position which will cause this to work incorrectly, but I should be able to fix it soon. Generally it should be working as described above though.) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

CC||emmetoneill@gmail.com Status|REPORTED|CONFIRMED --- Comment #1 from Emmet O'Neill --- Hi Maarten, thanks for the bug report. I've been able to reproduce this bug on the latest master branch, so I'm confirming it. I think this is an edge case to do with changing the play head while the animation is playing. Because if I stop or pause the animation and *then* move the play head, it seems to work as expected. Just as a note to my future self, here are my slightly different STEPS TO REPRODUCE: 1. Play an animation file. 2. Click the time header to change the play head position, while the animation is still playing. (Animation playback will stop after you change the playhead.) 3. Hit play again. I'd imagine that this shouldn't be too hard to fix, so hopefully we can get to it soon. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

I've tested with both a mouse as well as my drawing tablet pen. Are you sure that you're not just accidentally dragging the animation keyframes on top of one another? Does the same thing happen if you slow down? I've noticed that it's somewhat easy to do that when tapping really quickly with a tablet pen, though I didn't have the problem as much as you seem to be, based on your video. Either way, there may be things we can do to make the drag-and-drop controls within the timeline more precise, so I'll keep that in mind whether this is an actual implementation bug or not. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

The first half of the video is Adobe Photoshop stuff and the second half of the video seems to be about arranging elements on the canvas in Krita. I'm guessing you've accidentally uploaded the wrong video file for this bug. :) >From your description it sounds like maybe you're getting accidental dragging and dropping behavior on the Krita timeline when you click with your tablet pen? And this is sometimes causing the frames to be lost entirely, if I understand correctly. This rebuilds the animation cache and seems to solve the broken playback. I'm setting this to "confirmed", and hopefully we'll get this fixed by the next released. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

It's a bit unconventional, but this is a to make it very quick and easy to pan and zoom the timeline with a single press-and-slide motion of a mouse or pen. In other words, it should only zoom in when you drag it in an upwards direction, and it should only zoom out when you drag it downwards. As such, when dragging left and right, it shouldn't affect the zoom much (if at all). [krita] [Bug 478017] Krita crashes on opening an animation file
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478017 Emmet O'Neill changed: What|Removed |Added Status|REPORTED|RESOLVED Resolution|--- |DOWNSTREAM --- Comment #2 from Emmet O'Neill --- @Aleksandr: Hey there. First, technically the only supported means of getting Krita is via the official AppImages that we generate, or from the various "app stores" that we officially distribute on (Steam, Windows Store, EGS, Android's App Store). So, personally, I would recommend using the AppImage version of Krita for the most consistent experience. (Of course Krita is FOSS and available in many other formats and repositories, and we want it to be working correctly in those places too, but much of that is going to be in the hands of the repository maintainers.) With that said, based on your backtrace it's possible that there's a problem with how Krita is being packaged on Arch with regard to MLT. Right now we're shipping a fork of MLT with a custom plugin for handling animation audio, and so If I had to guess, I'd say that the wrong version of MLT is being used on Arch. In other words, this is a bug for the Arch package maintainer(s), though to be fair we haven't exactly made it easy on them. :( I should also mention that I'm in the process of improving this (as much as possible) so that our custom MLT plugin is shipping in our own source tree, while other changes are upstreamed so that we can use the regular MLT instead of maintaining our own fork. So, fwiw, we're working on improving and simplifying things. (This work should be merged soon (tm)--taking into account Christmas and New Years and all that.) @Alvin: Yeah, we still have a KisPlaybackEngineQt, which should work just fine other than it no longer supports audio. (Mainly so we could move away from also packaging GStreamer, which our old QtMultimedia audio system depended on...) IIRC MLT is an optional CMake dependency, so it should be possible to build Krita without MLT as a workaround, at the cost of losing animation audio support... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[krita] [Bug 478134] New: Anim Audio: Timeline scrubbing pushing too much audio.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478134 Bug ID: 478134 Summary: Anim Audio: Timeline scrubbing pushing too much audio. Classification: Applications Product: krita Version: 5.2.1 Platform: Appimage OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Animation Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: emmetoneill@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY When animation with audio, scrubbing (changing frames quickly via the timeline time ruler header) pushes multiple frames of audio which can block the program until the audio is processed. This is usually a minor issue, but becomes worse with (a) lower playback framerate and (b) lower playback speed. Setting the animation to a low speed and framerate before scrubbing (with audio attached) will push tens of seconds of audio, causing Krita to slow down until it's all been played. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open an animation 2. Attach some audio 3. Set low animation playback framerate. 4. Set low animation playback speed. 5. Scrub between frames on the timeline. OBSERVED RESULT Listen to a half minute of cow noises. EXPECTED RESULT We probably need to limit the rate of pushing audio based on the amount of time a single frame of audio takes to play (considering both anim framerate and speed). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[krita] [Bug 475409] "Paste into active layer" not working with extremely low resolution images.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=475409 --- Comment #1 from Emmet O'Neill --- Actually it seems like I can only reproduce this when pasting into Krita from another program. So I need to correct the steps to reproduce reliably using a second program. UPDATED STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. In another program (I've been using Aseprite, but other FOSS options like Pixelorama or LibreSprite should be similar), create a 24 x 24 pixel image. 2. Select the entire canvas (in the source program) and copy it to your clipboard. 3. Now create another 24 x 24 document. 4. In this new 24 x 24 document, try the `Edit > Paste into active layer` action. (I should say I believe I've had this problem copying pixel art between Krita files in the past, but I was unable to reliably reproduce it just now without getting a second program involved. *shrug*.) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Usability Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: emmetoneill@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY In my free time I've been working on animating very low resolution (16x16, 24x24, 32x32) pixel art game assets and I've found that I'm unable to use "Paste into Active Layer" to paste individual frames of animation when working on pixel art sized images. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. In one Krita document, create a 24 x 24 pixel image. 2. Select the entire canvas and copy it to your clipboard. 3. Now create another 24 x 24 document. 4. In this new 24 x 24 document, try the `Edit > Paste into active layer` action. OBSERVED RESULT I've found that the image fails to be pasted onto the active layer. And if you select the Transform Tool you'll see a message telling you that you can't transform an empty layer, confirming that nothing has been pasted on or off the canvas. It was too easy to get into a situation in which Krita can't find the FFmpeg that's bundled with the AppImage, and the average user is unlikely to know how/where to find it manually. (To make matters worse, Krita won't allow us to change the ffmpeg path until you supply a *valid* ffmpeg binary, so if a previously-correct path is no longer working, it's kind of frustrating to not be able to empty the path or have krita try to solve the problem automatically.) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Create a short animation. 2. File > Render Animation 3. Enable "Export as Video" section. 4. Specify an empty or invalid FFmpeg path. 5. Hit OK and continue. OBSERVED RESULT FFmpeg path is empty even though it should be bundled within the AppImage itself. As a result, rendering animation fails with an "Unknown Error". EXPECTED RESULTS 1. In the event of a empty/invalid/bad user-specified FFmpeg path, we should probably have a solid fallback that checks various logical paths where FFmpeg might be, depending on the platform. In the case of Linux AppImages, I think we should always be able to fall back to the FFmpeg that's bundled inside the AppImage's appdir ("$AppDir/usr/bin/ffmpeg"). 2. [krita] [Bug 469116] Cant launch through Steam but the .sh and .appimage work in steamapps folder
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=469116 --- Comment #2 from Emmet O'Neill --- Ok, so yeah. I've been able to confirm that this seems to be a problem that is relegated to Flatpak Steam installs. As you rightly pointed out, both the 'launch.sh' script and the AppImage itself run without issue. On top of that, I've installed the .deb version of Steam and Krita runs there without issue as well. So, it appears that mounting an appimage while Steam is contained in a flatpak is either broken or impossible right now... We might have to change our approach to distributing Linux binaries through Steam. The best workaround we have right now is to simply run the AppImage itself. Creating a .desktop file, symlinking it elsewhere, or adding it to your PATH may make that less of a hassle. (Also, if you have recently bought Krita on Steam and are disappointed that this bug has nullified the convenience of doing so... First, I'm sorry about that, and second, consider asking for a refund through Steam.) Anyway, sorry again for the nasty bug, and thanks a ton for letting us know and supporting the project in general. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[krita] [Bug 463910] New: Krita AppImage fails to launch from within Flatpak version of Steam.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=463910 Bug ID: 463910 Summary: Krita AppImage fails to launch from within Flatpak version of Steam. Classification: Applications Product: krita Version: 5.1.5 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: General Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: emmetoneill@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY When running Steam itself as a Flatpak, the Steam version of Krita will consistently fail to launch. This is because AppImages require FUSE mounts, and FUSE mounts are incompatible with Flatpak sandboxing. This is normal/low priority because it's pretty niche and there are a lot of other ways to get and use Krita on Linux that don't involve running it through the Flatpak version of Steam, but for those people who have chosen to support us on Steam it's important that we make sure that it functions properly, especially as Flatpaks and Steam get more popular each year. To remedy this, we might have to change the way that we package Krita on Steam for Linux. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[krita] [Bug 445834] Flipping too quickly displays incomplete canvas changes
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=445834 Emmet O'Neill changed: What|Removed |Added Status|REPORTED|RESOLVED Resolution|--- |NOT A BUG CC||emmetoneill@gmail.com --- Comment #5 from Emmet O'Neill --- Hey symmexel, what you're seeing is (at least for now) a normal byproduct of how Krita draws the canvas in tiles, and so I'm tagging this one as being "not a bug". It should be something that clears up relatively quickly depending on your hardware, but it may still be noticeable. I know it's kind of distracting to see these artifacts when quickly scrubbing between your animation, but I think the only alternative option would be to wait for all the tiles to finish before showing the updated canvas, thereby introducing latency and making animation scrubbing feel a bit worse. Anyway, if you'd like to discuss this more or want us to look into other options for how we draw the frame, then we can always continue the conversation and reopen the bug. ( I'm just doing a bit of cleanup for the new year. :P ) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[krita] [Bug 447610] One of the frames in the animation plays back corrupted after moving them a few spaces over.

It could be that I'm on an nVidia GPU, but I had Eoin test it on his AMD GPU and he wasn't able to reproduce it either. Is this still something that affects you on more recent versions of Krita, Sarah? For now I'll be setting this to "needs info" / "works for me", but it's no problem to reopen this bug report if the issue is still affecting people. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[krita] [Bug 454716] Animation Timeline Docker: Frame Drag and Drop Hilariously Laggy
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454716 Emmet O'Neill changed: What|Removed |Added Resolution|--- |WAITINGFORINFO Status|REPORTED|RESOLVED --- Comment #1 from Emmet O'Neill --- I can't tell if this was an upstream issue that's now fixed, or if my new CPU is just overpowering the problem to the point where it's not noticeable anymore, but I can no longer reproduce this one and so I'm closing it for now. As an aside, the last time I tested it I found that this is not specific to the Animation Timeline Docker, but can also happen with drag-and-drop elements of other dockers, including the Layers Docker. That leads me to believe that, if there is still a problem, it's probably just some unoptimized drag-and-drop code upstream. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
